Work Text:

“Everything we’ve done - it’s all for nothing now. I’ve lost everything. EVERYTHING. ” Hari Kurono stood in the main office of the Shie Hassaikai’s hideout watching their leader rage. Overhaul held a bottle of alcohol in one hand, the glass he had been using when he started drinking was forgotten on the desk. His signature mask was sitting on a stack of paperwork and his black dust mask was pulled down under his jaw so his mouth was exposed. Hari had never seen him like this; never in all the years of knowing Kai had he seen him drink, let alone become intoxicated.

“Those damn heroes stole my life’s work from me!”

“We can get her back. If Shigaraki was able to get into UA, we sure as hell can too. Especially if we work together with him.” Hari reassured his boss, hoping to calm him down before he used his quirk to destroy something.

“The League betrayed us, I am sure of it. There is no way the heroes would have gotten to us alone.” Overhaul’s eyes were wide in drunken rage. “I never should have trusted Shigaraki, much less allow his people into our ranks. I’m surprised they didn’t take Eri themselves, with how they reacted to my plan. Like I was some kind of psychopath - well they’re ones to talk!”

He stumbled and and the bottle fell from his hand, smashing on the floor. Hari jolted forward to catch him before he, too, hit the floor. “Don’t touch me!” Overhaul snarled, shoving his partner back and pinning him against the wall. His gloved hands went straight to Hari’s neck, putting just enough pressure to where he had trouble breathing.

“Boss…Kai…” Hari choked out, barely audible. But the other man heard him.

At the sound of his name, Kai Chisaki slowly loosened his grip on his friend’s neck and dropped his hands to Hari’s shoulders, keeping himself upright. “’M sorry, Hari,” he slurred as his expression softened into a blank stare. “What have I done…?” Hari held Kai’s golden stare for a second before the yakuza boss completely collapsed in his arms.

“C'mon, let’s get you cleaned up,” he said softly, dragging Kai down the hallway toward his living quarters. In all honesty, they should be evacuating immediately, as it was only a matter of time before the heroes came back for one final raid to catch them all. But his boss was clearly in no shape to leave the bunker, and he would need some time to recover.

*#*

Once he got Kai to the bathroom, Hari propped him up so he was sitting on the floor with his back against the wall. They kept everything immaculate, so there was no need to worry about his boss getting bent out of shape over cleanliness, if he was even sober enough to register what was going on. Hari didn’t think he’d even had that much to drink, but he supposed since he probably never drank at all, his tolerance must be pretty low.

After starting the water, Hari began to gently loosen the silk tie around Kai’s neck, slipping it off and then moving his fingers down the buttons of his shirt. He’d gotten used to taking care of Overhaul as the years went by since Pops went into a coma, the stress of leading the Shie Hassaikai had started taking its toll on him but Kurono was the only one he let see. Hari knew that he hated showing any kind of weakness, but he was grateful to be so trusted.

Once his boss was completely undressed, Hari lifted Kai up and settled him comfortably in the tub. As the water continued to fill up, he turned and neatly folded his clothes into a pile. They smelled a bit of alcohol and would need to be washed, but Kai would not be happy if he’d left them haphazardly thrown on the floor, regardless of where they would be going after. After placing the white gloves on top of the rest of Overhaul’s outfit, Hari returned his attention to his friend. The water reached up to the middle of his chest and Hari took the clean washcloth and soap and began to gently scrub down his smooth skin. Kai always furiously scrubbed at himself when he bathed, earning subtle glares from Hari, who had given up insisting he calm down after he just reminded him he could simply overhaul his skin if it was rubbed too raw. Hari reached for the shampoo, massaging Kai’s scalp as he rubbed it into his short hair. He felt a twinge in his stomach when the man sighed softly, unconsciously leaning into his touch, and he spent extra time with his hair, silently wishing it could always be like this, where his friend was not afraid to show his appreciation for the care and affection Hari so freely gave. Maybe he should get Kai to drink a bit more often.

When his knees grew sore from kneeling on the tile beside the bath, Hari stood up and drained the tub. With a soft towel, he began to dry Kai off. Lifting him out of the tub brought him slightly back to consciousness, which relieved Hari, as he was unsure of how he would have redressed him without at least a little bit of help. Once his bed clothes were on, Hari half-carried Kai to his bedroom.

“I’m sorry I’ve failed you,” Kai mumbled when Hari set him onto the bed. “I’ve failed all of you. This is all my fault.”

Hari gently shushed him, pulling the covers up over him. “None of this is your fault,” he reassured him, although he knew he was lying. This was all his fault, of course. Hari pretended not to see or care about the terrible things Overhaul was doing, but he knew. He knew they were wrong, and maybe he didn’t care. Nothing could drag him away; he knew his life would be completely worthless without Kai.
