Chapter Text
This was like a ritual for Fungami Yuuya. Everyday after school, he would make his way to the library on his motorcycle, and immediately go to the back. The restricted section. Inside there was a book that could talk. After Josuke and his friends defeated the town’s serial killer, Yuuya began to think about that book again. Miyamoto Terunosuke.
Terunosuke used to be human. A stand user. Yuuya and Josuke had fought him a month or two back. He told them he had gotten a stand from Kira Yoshihiro, the serial killer’s father. Josuke had defeated him by turning him into a book, which Yuuya decided is a fate worse than death. And the book seemed to think the same.
When Yuuya had first come to the library, he simply came to study. Until he heard the moans and cries from the back shelf of the restricted section. Curiously, he had picked up the book. Then he immediately recognized it---him. “Yuuya…?” The book mumbled, almost a whisper. “...You’re still back here?” Before Yuuya could say anymore, the book let out a soft pained cry, “I’m sorry, Yuuya, please...get me out of here…” Yuuya felt his hand rest on his chin. Probably in fear. “Terunosuke I...shit.” He put the book back down and backed away. He quickly ran off a few seconds after, the wails of the book in the back of his mind.
Eventually though, Yuuya went back and picked up the book once more about a week later. “You...came back.” The book huffs. The boy flips the book open to the middle, where the scrambled kanji formed a face. “I don’t want to be a book anymore,” he says. “Yeah, I assume you don’t, seems like a shitty life.” Yuuya chuckles. Terunosuke makes no reaction, his so-called face staring up blankly at him.
“...How can I know I can trust you?” The boy asks, bringing the book with him to a table and sitting down. The enigma boy blinks up at him before the kanji forms a smirk. “I guess you can’t. Not until you get to know me better.” Yuuya brings his hand to his chin in thought. “I guess I could do that then.” Terunosuke gives him a confused look, “Seriously? After what I...did to you and that Josuke kid? Koichi too?” Yuuya nods, “Let’s see if you deserve to be human again.”

After that day, Yuuya would come back daily to check on the book. They got closer with every meeting, Yuuya playing games and letting him watch. Terunosuke would sometimes talk about his life before meeting the man in the photo, or things he missed. “I’m sick of this library Yuuya, I want out.” The book huffs, watching the boy play Pokemon. “I know man, but I can’t just steal you, yknow?”
“Can’t you just ask Josuke to change me back?” Yuuya pauses, looking down at the book in his lap. They sat in silence before Terunosuke spoke up, “I get it. I got his mom involved like a dumbass. I kinda deserve this, hm?” The boy sighs, “Don’t say that. You don’t deserve this bullshit…” Yuuya takes a glance around. The library was close to closing and not many people were around.
“...Okay Teru, you gotta shut your mouth.” Terunosuke looks up at him the best he can, “Wha-what do you mean?” Yuuya closes the book softly, “You heard me, I’m getting you out of here.” The enigma boy does a soft, happy squeak as the boy puts him into his school bag quickly, zipping it up and slinging it over his shoulder. Yuuya quick-walks right out of the library, no one suspecting a thing. He lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding as he hopped on his motorcycle, revving the engine and speeding off into the night.
