Work Text:

"Oi, Josuke," Okuyasu grumbled as he stared out the window. Josuke didn't respond, his eyes had gone vacant as he stared at Koichi and Yukako from the window seal he and Okuyasu were perched on.

"Oi, Josuke," Okuyasu said again, putting a hand on Josuke's shoulder.

Josuke emitted a sound not dissimilar to a deflating balloon, and fell forward. Okuyasu jerked him back with a yelp, and Josuke was suddenly back to the present.

"Damn that Koichi..." He hissed under his breath as he hopped off the window and into the classroom.

"Yeah, how come he got to kiss a girl before us," Okuyasu whined, following Josuke as he took his finished lunch to the trash.

"I feel like, at this rate, we'll never get a chance..."

Josuke pouted and sat on a desk, his elbow resting on his knee as he cradled his chin in one hand.

"It makes no sense! I thought I would've kissed someone before now! What did Koichi do to get his chance before us? Josuke...what should we do?"

The boy frowned and his face grew pensive for a moment as he thought. "What if we got prostitutes?"

"Huh? I'm not spending my money on that. I don't think it counts, either. First kisses only count if you like the person."

"Ehh? Fine. Okay, why don't you come up with an idea?"

Okuyasu blinked. "I'm not good with decisions though..." He looked down and rubbed his chin. "Oh, I know, Josuke! What if, if we don't kiss someone before...ah...Mr. Jotaro finishes his thesis, we can kiss each other-" Josuke's eyes widened and Okuyasu hurried before he could interrupt, "and it's fair because we like each other. Even if it isn't, uh, romantic. It still counts."

Josuke crossed his arms and huffed, "But neither of us are girls."

"So, you can wear make-up and dress like a girl. That way, it'll be like kissing a girl."

Josuke curled his fists and shouted, "Why do I have to be the girl?! Why don't you be the girl, huh?!"

Okuyasu tapped his chin and thought for a moment, not bothered by Josuke's displays of aggression. "Okay. I'll do it, too. So it can be like you're kissing a girl."

Josuke huffed and crossed his arms as his cheeks grew warm. It was kind of his fault for letting the boy come up with the plan. He wasn't great at coming up with good ideas, and they were both sure he wasn't that smart. "Whatever. Jotaro won't ever finish his thesis anyway. Let's shake on it," he muttered.

And they did.

And then, Jotaro found the starfish.

"O-oi, Josuke..."

"Hm?" Josuke leaned forward as he steered his car on the screen. Okuyasu sunk down next to Josuke on the floor.

"Mr. Jotaro finished his thesis."

"Oh? Heh, that's a surprise. I thought he would never," Josuke said with a sly grin.

Okuyasu looked around. Though it was no longer summer, the room felt hotter.

"Y-yeah. Neither of us did. Uhm. Remember what we said about it?"

Josuke groaned as the screen flashed GAME OVER and he chucked his remote away from himself, pouting.

Okuyasu stared at him for a moment, waiting for his reply.

Josuke looked to him and blinked. "Oh! Right, uh, what did we say?"

Okuyasu cleared his throat and looked away. "Uh, y'know. About our first kiss. Have you, uhm, had one yet?"

Josuke stared at Okuyasu, confusion written all over his face for a long moment. And then, it clicked. Josuke's eyes grew wide and his cheeks grew red. He turned away, an awkward grin plastered on his face as he forced out a chuckle.

"O-oh! Yeah. I remember now. Uhm. No, I...I haven't kissed anyone yet." He wondered if Okuyasu had, and he wondered for a moment why he kind of hoped he hadn't.

"Oh, that's good- I mean it's not, because, it's sucks you haven't kissed anyone, but, it's good because I haven't, and I would be really jealous if you had-" Okuyasu felt his lungs tighten as he struggled to dig himself out of the hole he dug himself into, his words rambling into each other as he grew more frantic," I wouldn't be jealous because, like I wanted to kiss you, but because I haven't kissed anyone, hahaha!!!"

Josuke wheezed out an equally nervous forced laugh as he waved his hand. "No, no, I understand! I would've been jealous too, for, for the same reason, haha!"

They took a long, terrible moment of forcing laughter before they ended, tapering off into an equally awkward silence.

They sat in the silence for what felt like an eternity, but was really only about a minute before Josuke looked to the other.

"So. Do you, uh, want to? Not that you have to! We don't have to. But, we did. You know. Promise."

"Oh! No, I want to! Er, not that I want to, want to. But we did promise, and neither of us have had our first kiss..."

"Yeah."

"Yeah."

They sat in silence for a moment longer before Josuke once again was the first one to speak.

"Do you still want me to put on make up-"

"No, no, you don't have to. I'll just. Close my eyes. Do you want me to-"

"No, it's okay. I'll...do the same."

They were quiet again, and they looked to each other. Their eyes locked and Josuke chewed his lip.

Okuyasu exhaled slowly and scooted closer to Josuke. The other did the same, and they turned towards each other.

"Are you, uh, ready?" Josuke muttered.

"Yeah, yeah. Whenever you are," Okuyasu replied in his gravelly voice.

They looked at each other, faces and ears beet red, before Okuyasu, in one of the few times he had ever, took the lead, and leaned in, eyes shut tightly.

Josuke looked at Okuyasu before closing his eyes and puckering his lips in a ridiculous manner, leaning in the rest of the way, until their lips met.

They remained frozen, lips pressed against each other and unmoving, until Okuyasu peaked through one eye, and then opened both. He pulled away, and Josuke did the same.

"Huh."

"Huh."

"Y'know, everyone acts like the first kiss is amazing," Okuyasu said, an eyebrow raised. "It was...okay. I guess."

Josuke frowned and leaned back. "Yeah. Maybe we did it wrong? It didn't feel sexy or anything."

"Should we...should we try again?" The other boy wondered aloud, genuinely curious.

"It wouldn't hurt to try," Josuke said, leaning forward again.

"Should we change anything?"

"Maybe angle? Or maybe we should, like, embrace."

"Let's do that. And if it doesn't work this time, we can try a different way."

"Yeah. There's no harm in trying. Might as well try now, before we get girlfriends."

"Right."

"Okay."

Okuyasu leaned forward, head tilted slightly to the side. He reached and held Josuke's cheek in his hand as their lips met once again.

Josuke's hand found it's way to Okuyasu's shoulder as they kissed. It felt better this way, but...

Maybe they should try again. Just to learn more. Not because they were into each other or anything, but because it was their first kiss, and they needed to get it right. So, they would keep trying.

There was no harm in it, right?

Notes:

Should I continue? I only wanted to make this cute little interaction but it could be more. What do y'all think?
Edit: the next part is finished! Go check it out. It's going to have 2 chapters and then I'll post the final work.
