Chapter Text
Phoenix confronted Redd White, knowing now he had enough proof against the ego maniac overlord of California. He had a number of things to prove the connection:
The missing files
The articles with Mia’s handwritten ‘White’ label circled on the back
And the picture of White with the affidavit.
“Admit it, White.” Phoenix glowered, taking in some pungent odors of an Alpha who thought way too highly of himself. “The one who killed Mia …. Was you! You were blackmailing people to extort money. My mentor collected enough information to support her claim and you killed her for it.”
“No. I didn’t.” White smirked. “You did.”
“I – what?”
“Don’t you get it by now, Mr. Wrong? I am the big dog in town, Perro Grande, my mere pet.” White licked his lips at the sight of fresh sweat rolling down Phoenix’s temple. “Ah. What a delicious scent you have. How long have you been hoping to hide from me, Little Omega?”
‘Shit.’ Phoenix took a step away from White, looking over his shoulder to eye the door. White had no self-control and Phoenix had no desire to be taken.
“You think you can escape me, Poco Omega? I haven’t seen one of your kind in several years.” And there were many reasons for that. Male Omegas were rare as it was, but they also hid away. They did until they find a preferential mate and Alphas were lusting animals.
They used to be quick to bond, mate, and protect. But as society moved forward, Alphas became stricken with only one desire: fuck, fuck, and fuck. They weren’t always like that, though. The days of mates and children were gone, in any case. Most were only after sating their dicks. Male Omegas tended to prefer isolation, but it was a growing trend with their sister counterpart. The alternative scenarios were not pleasant.
Like the Alpha women who existed outside the norm, Omega men were fetishes first for their perceived scarcity. Not many in earnest chose to settle down with a male Omega or a female Alpha. Unlike Alpha women, who could make the most of her situation through a chance to turn her mates into drones, the Omega men did not come with such a safeguard. Queen Bees applied to her, and Alpha women were likely to form harems because of her specialties.
The only thing an Omega male had to keep himself safe from predators was an unassuming nature. It reduced damages to their well-being by making them gentle. It wasn’t close to working 100% of the time. Male Omegas were often killed just for existing as is.
Phoenix took off to the door but before he could reach it, White tackled him from behind and pushed them both into the closed door.
“How did I not notice it earlier?” White took a long sniff into Phoenix’s sweaty hair. “You smell good, Poco. It would be a shame to let you waste away in prison.” Phoenix slipped his hand out and managed to open the door, knocking the both forward. Phoenix caught the door frame before they completely dropped. White pulled on Phoenix’s hair spikes and pulled them both back in his office.
“I didn’t say you could move.” White threw Phoenix onto the ground and towered over him. Phoenix quickly shuffled off his rear and ran. He tucked himself between the back wall and the awfully gaudy golden desk. Depending on White’s next move…… Could Phoenix make it out?
Edgeworth walked up the steps with the secretary. On order from his direct supervisor, he was to take White’s actions that night into a testimony, as to not bother the man with a trial. On the top floor, she took him down the hall to White’s office. A scent hit his nose. Something familiar to him.
It was a strong Omegan scent, one that he picked up in brief amounts during his earlier court case. It was a sweet and distracting thing and he wished it wasn’t so distracting during his case, which he blamed for his earlier blunders. He never failed so miserably to open and shut a case before.
With so many people in the room, Edgeworth couldn’t pinpoint the Omega from the betas and Alphas. The scent was pleasing to be sure but why would he be picking it up again?
The closer they got to the big man’s office, the stronger it breached Edgeworth’s senses. But something was not right about it.
The scent carried a distressed undertone.
Phoenix snarled. He avoided giving into animalistic characteristics, but he was getting pissed off.
“Back down, Poco Omega.” White spat with his own scents getting louder, polluting their small shared space. He was issuing an order and expecting it to be taken seriously. However, Phoenix was a stubborn man before a submissive puppet, and amped up his snarl to a growl. The ‘I do not want anything to do with you’ no doubt rang out in his pheromones. Phoenix hoped that by doing so, he could enlist the help of any other interested Alpha nearby. If he were to be taken tonight he wanted anyone else in the universe.
His chances of attracting another aggressive mate to himself, though was highly probable. He had nothing else he could do to save himself.
“You stupid little nothing bitch.” White’s words were laced with venom. “I’m going to rough you up. Any more defiance and you’ll only make things worse for you.”
Phoenix eyed the door again, neither had moved from their spots. Phoenix commanded, “Move.”
“What did you say?”
“Move.” Phoenix stood his ground. He wasn’t too sure, but he did sense someone else approaching. A musk that carried authority. He took a gambit and inched toward the window. White took the opportunity to charged at him and Phoenix took off in the opposite direction. White was too fast for Phoenix to outpace and the stronger Alpha rooted his fingers into Phoenix’s hips, likely causing additional bruises.
White took his opportunity to viciously sink his fangs into Phoenix’s neck, causing a sharp cry to escape the Omega. It was a loud cry, and it was distressed. Whites mouth was occupied, so all he could was rumble a mocking laugh into the inner depths of his throat. He pulled out suddenly, ripping more flesh in the process, in shock as two people came in through that door.
Ah. So Phoenix was right……… He judged that perfectly. Two witnesses to White’s assault and an Alpha to boot, who could interpret these distress signals. Now, the only remaining factor was who that other Alpha was. ……. And Phoenix couldn’t tell if it was a blessing or another curse.
He met the eyes of his former friend and courtroom adversary, Miles Edgeworth.
