“Kacchan!”
A pitter patter of footsteps was behind him, always following him. He always ran ahead, lest it get annoying, but truthfully, he liked it like this. His first step to being a strong hero like All Might was having someone to protect, and who else needed more protecting than shitty Deku.
“Tch, what do you wan-,” Katsuki scowled as he turned around, but just before he could finish, Izuku ran into him and they both toppled and tumbled over.
“Argh! Shitty Deku,” he yells as he untangles himself. Izuku, being the Deku he is, begins crying.
“That huuurt!”
“Well it’s your fault for being so clumsy!”
Izuku pouts at him, which only annoys Katsuki further.
“What do you want?” Katsuki glares at the smaller boy in front of him.
“Look at this new All Might figure I got!! Mama bought it for me at the store today! She said it was a special treat ‘cuz I’ve been so good lately.”
Katsuki frowned out of habit, but then his eyes widened as Izuku pulled the shiny figure from his worn down ruck sack. That was the same figure he had asked the old hag for, but she had refused. Not ‘til you neaten up your act, you lil’ brat, she had said.
“Give it here!” Katsuki snatched the figurine out of Izuku’s hands, examining it in the afternoon sunlight. A smile begins to form in his face as he holds the limited edition figure in his very own hands.
“Kacchan, Mama says it’s rude to snatch!” Tears began welling up in Izuku’s eyes as he unsuccessfully tried to grab his toy back from Katsuki’s clutches. Way to ruin the moment, Deku.
“I don’t care what your mama says,” replies Katsuki, tossing the action doll back.
Izuku doesn’t catch the doll, because it’s Izuku, and what did he expect.
“Anyway, I don’t want to play with anything that belongs to you.”
Izuku turns to him after dusting off his doll with a hurt look, freckles on his face scrunched up.
“But Kacchaan, you promised that you would play with me yesterday…” Izuku wails.
“Hah? No I didn’t. Why would I go around making promises to Deku’s like you?” Katsuki huffs annoyedly.
“But you diiid. Remember?” Izuku begins to make sniffling noises which annoy Katsuki. Not like anything he did didn’t annoy Katsuki.
Katsuki begins to walk away, decidedly to not waste anymore of his time when he could be skipping rocks or scaring 4th graders with the extras.
Scuffling sounds follow, and then a “But it was after that beetle bit me yesterday Kacchan. When I started crying and you said if I shut up you would play with me todayy.”
Katsuki sighs. “Fiine. But you better not make me regret this, Deku!”
Izuku squeaks in delight, energy restored as he runs in circles around his centre of attention.
“And you better not run into me again!” Katsuki shouts, but he’s smiling. He gets to play with Deku and the limited edition All Might. Take that, old hag. He always get his way in the end.
—
Izuku glances over at Katsuki playing in his garden, bouncing and giggling as he makes All Might fly through the air. The sunlight shines through his ash blonde hair, making it glow in some patches and seem softer than usually seems.
“Deku! Deku! Do the voice, the All Might voice!” Kacchan laughs excitedly.
Izuku smiles and deepens his tone. “Watashi ga kita!”
They burst out in fits of giggles. It’s not often Izuku gets to see Kacchan like this, but when he does, he treasures it much more than all his All Might cards and figures and everything!
Okay maybe not everything.
“Boys,” Midoriya Inko calls out, “Do you want some fruit?”
“Yeah!” They yell out, and run inside, All might figure forgotten in the grass.
Life is good.
