Chapter Text
“Glowing ball--”
School wasn’t that fun, for starters. He was promised to become a hero after coming to Taiyuu high, yet here he stood with some of the bitchest people to date. To say that he didn’t like Taiyuu was an understatement, but hey at least now he could bother Lana more.
“-Its going to be--”
Sure Gakusa wasn’t perfect either, his record in middle school and his past could very easily disprove any ‘nice’ he had in him. To the very surface Gakusa was an asshole, a person who didn’t like people. Unless those people were Ki-kun or Sakkun. Or Lanaka or Amenee. He even enjoyed being around Lyri, the shape shifting girl who was in the other class. Along with Bame-chan, even if they managed to somehow get into an argument every time they spoke. He enjoyed poking fun at Shakun, and her little crush on their furry friend, which by clear extension made Shakun also a furry, but that was another conversation to get Shakun to admit to.
“Two partners--”
So as much as Gakusa didn’t like taiyuu, and thought an overwhelmingly large amount of people were wasting their time here, either their inability to be able to become a hero, or their assholish temper, he also thought that some of the people made it all worth it.
“—listening to me?”
Being a hero wasn’t a job that you could take with a smile on your face. It was hard and gurgling. It took dedication and time. You had to excel at things nobody else would, listen to mentors nobody would dream of list—
“Gakusa Oh are you listening to me?” Wolfsboon asked, standing directly in front of Gakusa. Gakusa blinked his eyes, looking upwards to the however many tall teacher.
“The real question is—are you listening to me .” Gakusa said he tried to make his voice deeper, to match the pitch of Wolfsboon, but instead it came out sounding slightly strangled. Somebody laughed in the crowd, to which Gakusa snuck a smirk at.
Wolfsboon sighed, putting a hand to his face. “As—I was saying--” he glanced at Gakusa once again, before turning back to the class.
Hero society is truly fucked, to its very core. These students weren’t ready to face what was coming from them—
Lana elbowed him, bringing him back down from his thoughtfulness. He glared at her, before regaining his composer, and leaving off with a slight smirk on his face. He tilted his head, looking at the teacher.
“You will start off in your field, make sure to not leave it, everything is a good game. Do what you want, use your resources.” Wolfsboon said flatly.
Gakusa grinned, raising his eyebrows, “How about murder?” He said, raising his hand.
Wolfsboon, apparently didn’t think that his joke was very funny, as the dog that stood next to Wolfsboon growled at him. Gakusa laughed, bringing a hand to his face. Lana glared at him, to which Gakusa decided to ignore her.
“What—you said all is good game!” Gakusa said, tilting his head slightly. Wolfsboon sighed, muttering a quick, ‘I need a drink or a raise’ under his breath. Gakusa’s smirk only grew.
“No, no murder is permitted Gakusa-san. It's good that you decided to join the class.” Wolfsboon sounded extremely tired.
“You’re welcome Wolfsboon-senpai!” Gakusa said cheekily, a fake cheerfulness coating his voice. Kiru chuckled, before punching Gakusa’s arm slightly. Gakusa sent her a smile.
“You have ten minutes to decide your strategies. Talk with people, shine your weapons. I don’t care,” Wolfsboon started again, deciding to ignore Gakusa and Kottoba, “You positions and who you will be able to collaborate with, is going to be secret for now, so make sure you talk to a few people at least.”
The class nodded their heads, before starting to group up slightly to discuss their strategies. Gakusa scoffed, noticing how class 1a decided to huddle around each other, whispering quietly.
“So who do you think you’re gonna talk to Chicken man?” A voice next to Gakusa said, as he seemingly glared at class 1a. He turned his attention to the voice, tilting his head.
“Isn’t it obvious you, love,” Gakusa winked, looking down at Kiru.
“I’m flattered, but what if I don’t want to talk to you,” Kiru said, batting her eyes to Gakusa. Gakusa gasped, putting a hand to his chest.
“You monster! I thought we were friends,” Gakusa put his hand to his cheek, whipping away a fake tear.
“Well you thought wrong, Chicken little,”
“Stop calling me chicken little, hes dumb and hes a coward . And I am not a coward.” Gakusa said, with a straight face. He sounded almost offended, before his face broke down into a small quivering smile, as if he was holding back a laugh.
Kiru laughed, before turning away from Gakusa, “No but really, who are you gonna talk to?”
Gakusa hummed, looking around, “Not class 1a, they look busy,” Gakusa first said, tilting his head towards the group of people who were huddling in the corner. He didn’t exactly trust what they were doing, doubtful at their true alliance. He would have to figure it out on the field. He turned to his own class, surviving the people there. Nobody seemed to be extremely ready to talk to others.
“Ozen Fujinuma isn’t too good of a candidate, nor with her daughter, Popi Suzuki.” Gakusa glanced at the pair, not exactly chatting. They looked almost awkward together, but he would be a fool to doubt that that wasn’t how they just normally functioned. “If I tried talking to them, they would push me away, and at that, they won’t collab with me either ways.”
“Fuji and Sukuro don’t look too hard to be teammates with,” Gakusa looked between the two people he named, “If I was paired with them, I don’t think I would have trouble trying to work with them.”
“Tamasan and Yasashi Senshi look…” He raised his eyebrow at them, he had decided to try to figure out if they were dating the past few days, and came up with that they were in the awkward parts of a crush where neither of them knew it, but also kinda did at the same time. “Busy? Anyways I don’t think we should bother them. If Tamashi’s in my field, then I would just direct him where to go, and he could just disappear and go through any wall, it would be good to collab, but he doesn’t seem like a person who needs to much convincing to partner with.”
Gakusa eyed the flouting—mammal? And cloud boy, “I’m sure Shou-san can handle themselves, same with moya, but I don’t know if I would be able to collab with them in the end—its pointless to talk right now.”
“I’m fucked if I have Koatsu Arakan, I’m stealth based, while he has green flames, shits gonna get wrecked really quickly.” Gakusa said, fairly flatly.
Gakusa looked to Mya, “She looks easy to handle, I don’t think she would be hard to talk to,” he looked back to Kiru, “and that’s every—Hey were you even listening!”
Kiru glanced to him, smirking a bit, “You really love talking,”
Gakusa glared at her, rolling his eyes slightly, “You asked babe, don’t back down on it now,”
“I’m not babe, please how could I ever back away from you and your voice, you sound like an angel while talking, it fills my ears with joy,” She said sarcastically, a pout on her lips.
Gakusa grinned, opening his mouth to say something—
“Okay times up, go to your fields!”
Gakusa is a weak person, compared to everybody else in the class. He was on par of a quirkless person in terms of physical strength, the disadvantage of a mental quirk. Sometimes even, during the night time, or when his quirk is deactivated, even then he's worse than a person without a quirk at all. So if he wanted to win anything, he had to do it from his sheer determination, and a plan.
Gakusa wasn’t exactly a determined person, he never really had something he needed to work towards. Being in a hospital for four years took that away from you. The want to be better—the thought to be better—in a hospital, the only thing you could work for is already placed out for you, to get out of the hospital. Beyond that—you don’t have goals. Some people do, some people want to be heros, medics, teachers, but for Gakusa that never happened. When he left the hospital, his direction in life tore apart from him. His only true aspiration was just to wake up in the morning the next day. Maybe to make somebody laugh a few days. Maybe get somebody mad. It wasn’t a sad life to say—it worked for the blonde. He liked his life, where nothing was expected of him other than a villain's life. Something he would truly never become, so even then he was beating all odds or whatever. Maybe being a hero was a goal of his- even though he saw them as pointless parade shows, maybe some days he found the inspiration to work harder for heroism.
Actually
That’s a lie, Gakusa Oh had no morals, and the only reason he was trying now, was to not have to become a slave to Ogura Svetlana.
Ogura Svetlana, his best friend one could say. The lady that made his life brighter, and who possibly tried to murder him a few times per day. As much as they were friends, neither of them had any respect for the other, such illustrated in their bets. Such as this one, with the terms of condition being, ‘who ever loses their round, has to become the other person's slave for a week’.
It was a simple bet, but that bet decided life or death to either of them. Or more specifically to Gakusa, he would have to actually do his homework. Imagine the scandal. So here he was now, running straight towards the center of the field.
For once in his life, he thought, he might actually try. Dear lord because he will die if he doesn’t. Gakusa glanced around the urban area. He was looking upwards, for say an opening to get through the buildings. It would be easier for him to jump from building to building, as his time with jumping from place to place to migrate from Lanka’s house to Amenee’s house to his own, cold cold home. He was running forward, his eyes glued to the buildings. He would have to find a way back, and jumping from building to building would be the easiest way to get away from his opponent.
Now onto the fact that he didn’t know who—
He crashed into a wall in front of him, falling backwards. Blinking once, Gakusa took a moment to think through what happened. Sitting up, he looked to the wall. He was sure it wasn’t—
Gakusa narrowed his eyes, jumping up to up his hand to the wall. Ice. Gakusa’s thoughts stopped, taking into account all the people in the classes, who could make this?
Shimokizu Hiyashu, the proclaimed study partner of him, whenever they had detention together. Her quirk was sub zero, the ability to freeze anything, but she can’t make ice, so a wall would never make sense. She might have already partnered with somebody, was that what class 1A was talking about? His hand wouldn’t be able to read into the wall, the only information he was getting was the length and width and temperature of it, along with other facts, which he didn’t bother to pay attention to. It was a long wall, but it stopped somewhere, so did class 1a actually have a plan then? Or was Shimokun and somebody working on their own time? The latter would make more sense, so he would have to place his bets on that. He could count off a lot of students from class 1a, all whose quirks weren’t exactly this properly regulated. Ameko, Yuu, Spellman, Tsu, Aimi, Zeke (unless Shimo had figured out how to be able to freeze electricity), shakou, and Tokei were all out. He could continue to narrow it down, Sako not being able to make anything that far away from a heat signature that Gakusa had found a few minutes ago, it was near another signature, most likely Shimo. So she had been working with somebody. Gakusa narrowed his eyes, so that left him with Vai, Zoe, and Inoue. Vai seemed unlikely, their quirk wouldn’t be easy to make quickly enough, and in a way where Gakusa wouldn’t have been able to predict. No, but Zoe and Inoue could have easily been possible candidates.
“Hey Einstein, don’t hurt yourself there from thinking too hard.”
Gakusa jumped at the voice, his train of thought stopping. He turned his head, to face the devil herself.
“Ki-chan my savior! I was about to blow out my brains,” Gakusa said. Turning around to full face Kiru, he leaned against the wall behind him.
“What’s that anyways? Think you could decode it for me?” Kiru said, tilting her head. He sighed, looking upwards. The wall was too high to jump over.
“Sorry, I think my brains blew out while I was thinking, but it's made out of ice .” He stretched out the last word.
Kiru glared at him, “No shit Sherlock, you really brought out your quirk there.”
Gakusa laughed, stepping away from it, and crouching down again, to put his hand to the ground, “It’s too tall to jump over, and though it's not very thick, I don’t think we would be able to get through it. The ice is stopping us.” Gakusa said thoughtfully. He looked down to his hand, before looking sideways, almost searching for somebody, “Could you scream insults and see if it breaks or something?”
Kiru rolled her eyes, “Ha ha very funny no I--”
Gakusa grinned, before his breath slowed down, “Hey kiru, let's back away.”
“—did you not listen to what I said, you bad bad boy, you should listen when you are spoken t- wait why?”
Gakusa blinked his eyes, before a steam of air hit both of them. They got thrown back, Gakusa into the ice, while Kiru perpendicular to the ice wall. Inoue .
Inoue Hiraku 5’9, quirk Pheuma, gender male, best attributes being his speed and collaborative element.
Gakusa jumped up within a split second, running towards, the currently standing up, Kiru. He might be with another person, but there’s another person there, with Inoue. If they are 1B, then Inoue is alone, if they’re 1A, Gakusa and Kiru are going to be utterly fucked, as Gakusa’s only weapons on him wouldn’t get past Inoue, and Kiru’s quirk needs to be at least heard, something that Inoue could also get past by if he was smart enough. Gakusa couldn’t take chances, as failure meant death. But he had to think through, its more likely in the end that there’s a 1B person there, he thought back to how he noticed the heat signatures of a two other people not far from here. Those two people were too close to Gakusa and Kiru, to not be in the same field. And those two people had to be Shimokizu and Zoe, as Inoue could have never preplanned to make a wall. Unless, that’s what they were doing before the class. Though, Gakusa doubted that either of them could make a way where Shimokizu would be able to freeze air—as far as he had confidence in what Shimokizu could do, he didn’t think she would do it. It seemed to reckless for her normal behavior. So he would have to work with the assumption that, it was Zoe working with Shimo, with Zoe making a energy wall, and Shimo freezing it over. Which means that Inoue was with a class 1B student, just to figure out who.
(insert picture here)
Gakusa tugged Kiru down, her strangling in protest for a bit before crouching down with him. As the surprisingly large amount of dust settled, two figures could be seen, Inoue and—
Ningyo Mya, 5’1, quirk Black magic, gender female, best attributes being her technique and cooperation.
Gakusa narrowed his eyes. So this was their last team mate right? Or person who they could collaborate with. So that must mean that Mya is most likely against Inoue, and he and kiru are against either Shimo or Zoe.
Mya jumped back, her—hair extending towards Inoue, before quickly getting pushed away, with out a moments hesitance. He is fast, so there’s no way they wouldn’t be able to run away from this. Gakusa sighed, but before even noticing Kiru jumped up, and ran straight towards Inoue. Gakusa glanced to where she sat previously, his eyes widening. No Kottoba! You dumbass don’t do that…
Kiru ran towards Inoue, opening her mouth to shout out a insult, before her voice gets blocked off with Inoue shooting out a streak of wind. She fell backwards, a strangled yelp riffling through the air. Gakusa winces. You have to think through this- but I think I already have a plan.
Gakusa grunted, before jumping up and towards Kiru, if Inoue hadn’t seen Gakusa before this, then he definitely did notice the 6’2 student run across to help Kiru. Inoue turned his body, rushing away from Mya who had fallen backwards, after being shot with a beam of air, and towards Gakusa. He fell to the ground, taking in a deep breath. Gakusa narrowed his eyes, tugging at Kiru arm quickly, thank god she was wearing the normal school uniform sweater, to get her attention. After she looks up to him, he points to the other direction with his arm, hoping to communicate to her that she should run that way. Kiru nodded, which gave Gakusa almost an instantly state of relief, before he jumps sideways, nearly avoiding a jet stream.
Kiru runs the way he pointed, and he runs the other. Inoue glances at both of them, before turning to Kiru, Gakusa grinned, bad choice, but it’s a losing bet Inoue.
Inoue shoots a stream towards Kiru, it nearly hits her, but it also disactivates any ability to hear what she would have said at that time. Gakusa rushed towards Mya, sliding next to her.
“Mya--?” He said, his voice almost rushed, “How long can you stretch out you’re--” Gakusa tried explaining his plan as quickly as possible, the girl not cutting in, but nodding along. Gakusa grinned, Thank god this isn’t Ozen or something.
Mya blinks once when he’s done talking, but a sort of determined look rests in her eye. She gives Gakusa a strong smile, and Gakusa replicates the expression, his looking definitely more sinister, as this dumbass cannot smile normally. Gakusa nods, they both jump up, as Inoue turns to them. Kiru is on the opposite side, her hand waving towards them. She looked fine, but her hair was pushed back—she looked like a birds nest was made on top of her head. Gakusa smirked.
Mya shot up, shouting a few words, while Gakusa swung the other way. Inoue glared at her, moving his body to shoot air out of his shoulder. Gakusa ran towards Kiru, as she stumbled up. She didn’t look to hurt up close, which was a relief to almost everybody involved.
“Hey you ass, whyd’ you leave me,” Kiru said, she was smiling.
“To make a plan now listen, you’re gonna be my ploy got it?” Kiru let out an almost a noise that was fairly close to what a dying animal might let out. As Gakusa continued to explain their plan, occasionally glancing back to how Mya and Inoue were fighting. Don’t tire yourself out . Once Gakusa finishes, Kiru lets out a sigh, before nodding. Gakusa grins, as he tugs off her jacket. He then gives her something, her hand clenches around it.
Gakusa turns to Inoue, opening his mouth to shout to him, “Hey failed acupuncture!” he shouts, his hand waving in the air.
Inoue turns to him, shooting off a stream. Gakusa falls backwards, as Mya runs towards him. Crashing to the ground, Mya slides over to him, quickly taking the jacket that he had stowed away from Kiru.
“Where’s Kottoba-kun?!” Inoue shouts, he sounds very out of breath, as he takes in quick and short breaths.
Mya turns to him, her hands shaking slightly, Gakusa jumps and shouts, “Over nowhere!” He runs towards Inoue, reaching out his hands to punch him.
Mya glances to him, her breath quick, as she balances the coat onto her hair strands. Inoue shoots out another jet stream towards Gakusa, the dust in the area picking up once again. Mya positions the coat, to almost look like a person.
A breathless laugh can be heard, coming from Inoue. As he catches a glimpse of the coat. Mya runs forward, staggering the coat behind her. She had never been more thankful of her control over the hair strands, than today and right now.
Gakusa falls backwards, running away from Inoue, as Inoue shoots out another beam, towards the jacket version of Kiru. Mya lets go of the jacket, as it flies backwards. She runs forwards, towards where Gakusa had told her he would direct Kiru.
Talking about Gakusa, he waves his hand, motioning for Inoue to follow him. As he does this, Inoue rushes towards him, shooting out a stream of air. Gakusa plants his legs into the ground, putting up his hands against the current of the wind. He slides backwards slightly, before turning up his head again, to run diagonally to the left. Inoue lets out a final stream, getting to Gakusa. He skids across the ground, falling backwards. Inoue takes a deep breath, letting his lungs fill in with air.
“Hey lung boy!” Kiru shouts behind Inoue, waving her hands, “Don’t you know--!”
Inoue whips around, and lunges towards Kiru, pointing out his hands. She grins, throwing out a few rocks into the air. Within a millisecond of her throwing out the rocks, she gets tugged away, almost by magic. If somebody had asked, the strand of hair connecting to her arm could have belonged to anybody, and there were no outer forces that did tug her away in the second.
Through this, Inoue shoots out a stream, not fast enough to redirect it. The air crashes with the rocks, as they push against the ice. They crackle for half a millisecond before a large explosion erupts into the air, crackling through the ice. Blasting away the wall, the wall crumbles, as the hole causes an almost chain reaction. Large cracks going through the wall.
Inoue falls backwards, the impact knocking him down the ground a few meters away. Gakusa scrambles up, eyeing the fallen boy, before rushing to Mya and Kiru.
“You guys okay?” He shouts, edging towards the gaping hole.
Kiru grins, “You owe me,” Gakusa gasps, widening his eyes.
“I mean-- fair but!” He starts, Mya chuckles.
“We did a good job, I think.” She looks to Inoue, he looks almost passed out.
Gakusa raises an eyebrow, and looks back to Inoue also, “He’s going to wake up quickly, so we should get going,” Gakusa bends down, gripping against a chuck of the crumbled wall.
Kiru hums, “We should,” She turns to Gakusa grinning, “You still owe me though.”
Gakuas rolls his eyes, smiling, “Sure babe, but lets win first and then we can see.”
Mya raises her eyebrow, but gleams, “I don’t want to ask, but we should get going, as you already said.” Her voice sounds calm. Gakusa and Kiru turn to her, but nod. They all stumble out of the wall, Gakusa going in first, as he surveys the ground.
“I’m assuming that Inoue was your partner Mya-chan, so I would suggest getting your ball now. Kiru--”
“Yeah yeah I know, I think I know where my ball is.” Kiru says, cutting Gakusa off.
Gakusa raises an eyebrow, but nods.
“Kay’ einstein, good luck I guess,” He gives her a noncommittal thumbs up.
She grins at him, giving him an okay sign. “Good luck to you too, don’t overthink yourself.”
Gakusa laughs. The three separate their ways, hoping for victory and what not.
