Work Text:

Getou looked over at Mahito who was busy snoring away. He looked at the sea in front of him. There's something about the sea that reminded him of the past. The beach was empty except for him, Mahito, and a couple of other curses. He felt bored somehow, looking over the same view every day. It was peaceful but there's something that's lacking. He wondered what it could be.

It's not like he doesn't visit the human world often as he liked. He just went there yesterday, releasing curses to cause humans pain and suffering. Yet, he feels like there's something wrong with him.

“ What am I doing wrong?” Getou thought.

“ Mahito.”

“ Huh, what? Who's there? I'll kill you.” Mahito woke up abruptly from his sleep, looking around. “ Oh, Getou. What's up?” He said as he wiped the drool that's been sticking to his face.

“ I wanna go to the beach.”

“ Aren't we at one already?”

“ Well, yeah but I want to go to another beach.”

“ Where?”

“ I don't know. Somewhere we can visit easily.”

“ Why? What's wrong with the beach here? I think this is plenty. We got sun, some shade, sand, and water. We even have these coconut trees around. What’s bothering you?” Mahito scratched his head.

“ Somehow I want to experience something different. I want to go to a beach with humans in it.”

“ You want to go to a beach…. With humans in it?” Mahito looked rather shocked. Getou was asking for something very odd. “ Why? You were never fond of humans anyway. They're greedy and ugly creatures that cause this world great pain. If we couldn't eradicate them, they would probably go extinct on their own anyways.”

“ Well, let's just spend some time around them while we can. We should observe them some more. Plus, we can have some fun with them.”

“ Are we going to kill some?” Mahito asked excitedly.

“ I'll let you decide that.”

“ Nice. When are we going to go? Today? Tomorrow?”

“ You're excited, huh?” Getou chuckled.

“ Of course I am! I can't wait to play with them. ”

“ We'll go tomorrow then.” He said, patting Mahito's head. Mahito touched his head, looking at Getou.

“ Are you alright, Getou?” Mahito asked.

“ I'm alright. Why? You worried?” Getou asked.

“ You're acting weird.”

“ How weird?”

“ I don't know. You're just aren't your usual self I guess.”

“ Really? I don't feel any different.”

“ Well, if you say so. I'm gonna take a nap.”

“ Of course.”

Getou stared at Mahito, who was busy fixing the camera strap on his neck. He wore purple shades with a straw hat on his head. Mahito definitely dressed up a little today. He even borrowed Getou’s shirt for the occasion.

“ Where did you get all this stuff?”

“ Oh, these? Some souvenirs I took in the human world I think were interesting. It’s really not that hard to get. Just go kill some humans, it’s that easy.” Mahito said, taking a picture of Getou. “ Oh, not bad. You look pretty good.”

“ Why are you all dressed up?”

“ To go play with humans of course. I need to stand out as I watch their pitiful faces twist in fear as I turn them into curses.”

“ Well, I hope you have fun.”

“ Of course I will. So, let’s go.”

“ Let’s buy some tickets.”

“ Tickets?”

“ The bullet train will arrive in ten minutes.” The announcement said.

Getou looking at all the people around them gave them funny looks and laughed as they whispered to each other. Two guys, full beach attire waiting patiently at the station platform. There were tourists dressed like them who waved at them happily. Getou, acting along just waved back.

“ Hey, why aren’t they surprised to look at us? You know, me with my stitches and stuff. You and that right across your forehead.”

“ I cast a spell for us to look like two normal dudes. It would be troublesome if they see us in our original forms.”

“ You’re careful, aren’t you?”

“ Of course, I don’t want anything to ruin our trip,” Getou said.

“ Aren’t we just going to the beach?”

“ Well, it is a three-day trip. I’m sure we can visit more places than that.”

“ Wait, three days? I haven’t packed anything at all. Are you nuts? Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?” Mahito crossed his arms, sighing.

“ You can easily grab some souvenirs like before,” Getou said as they boarded the train. Mahito smirked, liking the idea. “ If you say so, Getou.”

They got to their seats as the train started to move, Mahito taking pictures as he did.

“ So, Okinawa right? I think I haven’t been there yet.” Mahito said, putting his camera on his lap.

“ Yeah. I went there once. Well, Suguru Getou did. I just share his memory. I think he’s trying to tell me something.”

“ So, you are really not yourself huh?”

“ Well, there’s something that has been bothering me lately. I just want to confirm what they are.” Getou said, looking outside.

“ Do you still want to kill Gojou Satoru?”

“ Of course, more than anything. I mean, we can’t really defeat him but there are methods to bring him down. All we need is just time.”

“ Well, I am glad you still want to kill him,” Mahito said.

“ He already killed me in the past, I just want to return the favor.”

“ Heh, for a second there I was about to doubt you. Guess I worried for nothing.” Mahito said. “ or else, I would’ve killed you and all the people in this train.” He smirked.

“ That’s brave of you to say.”

“ I like saying what I think. It’s better to express them rather than keeping them inside.” Mahito picked up the camera and went through the photos he took.

“ Indeed.”

“ I can’t wait until we get there.”

“ You can sleep. I think we have a long time before we arrive.”

“ It’s alright. I’m not as sleepy.”

“ Well, wake me up in an hour or so.”

“ Sure.”

Getou didn’t think about it much as he fell asleep minutes after that. He had the oddest dream. It was about Gojou and some other people he didn’t remember. He was still a teen back then, a clear view of the beach still stuck to his mind. He could see the clear seas and the white sparkling sand. He could feel the gentle breeze welcoming him.

“ Suguru!”

Getou couldn’t believe what he’s hearing. Gojou was looking at him, sea cucumber in his hands. They were smiling at him as they splashed in the water. Getou rubbed his eyes, he looked around and they were all missing. He searched for them but they were not around.

“ Getou.”

He looked towards the beach where he could find Mahito staring back at him, a smile on his face. He pulled Getou to stand next to him.

“ Pretty nice view, right?”

Getou woke up, he looked at Mahito who was busy snoring beside him. “ Tch.” He clicked his tongue. They still have an hour before arriving. “ What the fuck was that weird dream?” He whispered.

“ Argh, I’ll kill you!” Mahito said as he woke up abruptly again. “ Oh, it’s just you.”

“ You really have a habit of waking up like this, do you?”

“ It’s just too noisy when I wake up.”

" I was whispering."

" That's noise to me."

The two sat in silence for the rest of the hour, Mahito taking pictures of the scenery. He didn't want to tell Getou that he secretly took pictures of him while he was asleep. He went back through the pictures, smiling like a fool.

" Why are you smiling like that?"

" Oh, nothing."

“ Well, we’re here already.”

“ Great. I need to stretch. I can’t believe we’re stuck in here for six hours.”

They arrive at Okinawa. The weather was decent, not too sunny or too cloudy. They took the bus to their hotel to get checked in.

“ Where did you find the money for this trip?”

“ I took souvenirs too.” Getou winked.

“ Heh, you’re no different from me aren’t you?” Mahito snickered.

“ Of course.”

“ This is the key to your room. If you need anything, you can call room service and they will take care of it for you. Is this the first time you are in Okinawa?” The receptionist smiled at them.

“ Ah, this is my second trip,” Getou said.

“ I hope you both enjoy your stay.” She said, bowing slightly.

“ Now that we’ve checked in, let’s head to the beach!” Mahito said. “ We’ve got no luggage around so let’s just go there.”

“ You’re excited.” Getou chuckled.

“ I wanna see how different it is from ours.”

They arrived at the beach which was surprisingly not so full of people. It looked relaxed with the nice strong breeze and white sand was welcoming them as they arrived. The crystal clear water looks inviting too.

“ Well, this is not that bad,” Getou said.

“ Whoa! There are so many humans! Look, there’s a bunch of them in the water!” Mahito said, busy clicking his camera to take pictures of the view.

“ Imagine if I set out some curses here. That would be exciting.”

“ Well, let’s enjoy this first shall we?”

“ Eh…. You’re no fun, Getou.” Mahito whined. They found a nice spot to settle down and enjoy the shade.

“ Well, I dunno about you but I’m jumping in the water,” Mahito said, taking off his camera.

“ I’m fine here. Go enjoy yourself.” Getou said. Mahito beamed and ran straight towards the water. He didn’t even hesitate to get his feet wet.

“ Hahaha! This is fun!” He shouted. “ Hey, Getou! Take a picture of me, hurry!” He said, waving his hands. Getou chuckled, picking up the camera and snapped a couple of pictures of Mahito in the water. He trotted back to Getou to see the pictures. “ Not bad at all. I look really cool, heh.” He snickered.

“ Let’s hang around till the sun goes down,” Getou said.

“ We’ve got a couple of hours. Why don’t we walk instead? Then we can head out to the hotel.”

They walked around the area, soaking the sun as they did. It was a nice feeling indeed. There were not many people around so they could stroll comfortably. They saw a family walking right in front of them. They had a baby in their arms, laughing happily as if there are no worries in this world.

“ They’re so vulnerable.”

“ What? The humans?”

“ Yeah. They didn’t even realize that we can just take their lives in just a second.” Mahito said, staring at them as they pass by.

“ Well, they are humans. It’s their nature.”

“ Well, at least they’re easier to kill than those shamans,” Mahito said.

“ Soon, none of them will walk these streets anymore. Let them enjoy it while they can.” Getou said, smiling.

“ So, what are we doing tomorrow?”

“ I have an idea. For now, let's go to that bar. I could use a drink."

*

" Mahito."

" Fuck! Who?"

" It's just me, you freak."

"Oh, what's up?"

" Stop taking a nap. We need to go already."

" Go where?"

" I'll show you."

" Tch, fine."

"C'mon."

They took a taxi there. Mahito couldn't stop asking where they were going. Getou ignored him, telling him to wait until they get there.

“ Woah, now this is great,” Mahito said.

They both stood at the aquarium entrance, looking as people came with their families and friends, laughing and smiling. Mahito ran inside, leaving him alone at the entrance. Good thing he didn't lose him among the crowd. It could be a hassle to find him since he's so energetic. He could even cause trouble for them if he's not careful.

There were shades of blues everywhere, with the dim light illuminating the aquarium. They went to every part of the aquarium, exploring comfortably. They stood right in front of a big aquarium, looking at the wonderful view. A whale shark passed by and everyone around them pulled out their camera to take pictures of it, Mahito included.

“ This is really amazing,” Mahito said as he took some shots of the giant.

“ I heard it would be worth the visit,” Getou said, watching the life behind the thick glass.

“ Not bad really. There are so many humans too.” Mahito said, looking around.

“ Don’t do anything rash, Mahito,” Getou said, his eyes glued to the scenery in front of him.

“ You said you will let me decide what I should do with them.” He looked at Getou. “ It stinks of mold in here, Getou. Let’s play with them, shall we? Can we? ” He pouted.

Getou let out a long sigh.  “ Do as you please. I’m not comfortable here anyway.”

“ Are you alright?” Mahito asked. “ Looks like something is bothering you again.”

“ You know, I’ve never felt peace. There’s always something bothering me. Dreams of the past, about everything. It still bothers me to this day. I want to get rid of them as much as you do so I could feel peace again but right now, this will suffice.” Getou said. Mahito looked at him and slowly he leaned in and kissed Getou on his cheek.

“ What was that for?” Getou chuckled.

“ To distract you for a bit,” Mahito smirked.

They heard a piercing scream later. Two girls were disfigured, screaming for help as they turned into an ugly malicious being, wreaking havoc in the aquarium. People started screaming and running away from them. They started shoving each other, not caring if they hit or bumped into each other. They could hear children crying, searching for the parents that had fled and left them there.

“ Impatient, aren’t you?” Getou said.

" I just want to play a little."

" At least now we can have the aquarium all to ourselves." Mahito chuckled.

" I'd like that." He said.

" Hey."

" Yeah?"

" I saw the humans did this," Mahito said as he intertwined his fingers with Getou's. " Feel better?"

" Well, I don't know. Maybe we should do this a little longer to find out."

They held hands, walking slowly as they left the chaos behind them. People were running away but they just strolled, one step after another as they enjoyed the aquarium. Getou felt a sense of tranquility inside him, even a hint of excitement in him. All of it because of Mahito.

“ Do you like holding hands, Getou?” Mahito said.

“ I don’t dislike it,” Getou replied.

“ Does it make you feel better?”

“ In a way, yes.”

“ Then, shall we hold hands more from now on?” Mahito smiled.

“ I don’t mind.” Getou smiled back. “ I’ve grown fond of you, Mahito. Despite you being a little childish at times.”

“ Ah, you’ve fallen for me?” Mahito smirked, swinging their hands around.

“ I’m not telling.”

“ Eh…. Getou, that’s unfair.” Mahito pouted.

Getou chuckled, he gave Mahito’s hand a little squeeze. “ Soon, I’ll tell you.”

“ Ah, Getou. Look.” Mahito said as he turned his head, welcoming the orange sunshine. “ Pretty nice view, right?”

Getou paused, looking at Mahito in his eyes. “ What’s the matter?” Mahito asked.

“ Nothing. It’s a wonderful view indeed.”

They both stood there, watching the sunset. Their hands held tight, shoulder to shoulder they share the wonderful view that will soon belong to them.
