but when you call me baby (i know im not the only one)

Summary:

Eijirou wasn’t crazy.

For years he’s known that Katsuki’s heart wasn’t completely his. But he’d hoped, god he’d hoped, that one day his love for the blonde would heal the gaping and bleeding hole that housed Katsuki’s love for Izuku Midoriya.

Notes:

I honestly love Kirishima. He's a sweetheart and I feel a little bad for using him for this story, but I've made it into a series because I wan't to show everyone's point of view.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Eijirou wasn’t crazy.

For years he’s known that Katsuki’s heart wasn’t completely his. But he’d hoped, god he’d hoped, that one day his love for the blonde would heal the gaping and bleeding hole that housed Katsuki’s love for Izuku Midoriya.

‘gaping and bleeding’, he mused and laughed bitterly to himself. It was the only way to describe the type of feelings that Katsuki had for the green haired man. His hands shook as he stared at the gold band on his finger. A gift, a promise, that had once brought stability to their ever-tremulous relationship now felt like it was nothing more than a paperweight.

As he sat on the floor in the middle of his, now trashed, living room he couldn’t help but think about the numerous times that he had brushed away the feeling in his gut that was telling him something like this was going to end up happening.

The parties.

The hang-outs.

The double-dates.

“For fucks sake!”, Eijirou screamed, “he’s married too!”, his voice cracked as he sobbed into his trembling hands.

Looking back on it, Eijirou could only blame himself.

During all three years of school it was pretty clear that they only had eyes for each other.

The first half of their first year was a disaster, a relationship full of animosity and resentment, something that allowed him to barely squeeze himself into Katsuki’s center of gravity. He learned how to handle his volatile moods and stuck close to him as much as possible. At the time he hadn't been aware of his own romantic feelings for the boy, but his brain caught up with his heart when he was kidnapped during their summer camp.

The day Katsuki grabbed his hand when they saved him from the League of Villains had been imprinted in his heart for the rest of his life.

“God, I can’t believe I let myself think I was special”, he sniffed as he wiped his nose.

Then their second semester rolled around and suddenly, they were almost inseparable. They had an internship together; they would spar together during most training sessions and would sneak off throughout the day (no one in their class was willing to ask just in case it would disrupt their weird new friendship). It wasn’t like they were always together, they still made time to hangout with their other friends, but there was a clear line between them and the rest of class 1-A. Not even Shouto could cross it.

“Funny how Izuku ended up marrying the cold bastard”, Eijirou laughed bitterly.

And wasn’t that a surprise to everyone.

Third year started and the fact that they were fucking each other was a well-known secret. If Izuku’s hair wasn’t so obviously disheveled and his blushing face wasn’t so transparent whenever they would come back from being alone together hadn’t given it away, then Katsuki’s cocky smirk and posture sure as hell did.

No one commented on it.

Ever.

So Eijirou kept his mouth shut and made sure to remain by his side, even when his heart broke whenever he saw a new hickey on Izuku’s neck, or when Katsuki would wrap his arm around his shoulders whenever they left to go somewhere.

Needless to say, Eijirou spent countless nights crying himself to sleep during his last year.

Then a month before graduation, everything stopped.

They stopped talking to each other, stopped sneaking off together, stopped sparring together. They wouldn’t even acknowledge each other when they were in the same room.

All of a sudden, he had his best friend back.

A day after graduation Midoriya Izuku moved to America to follow in his mentor’s footsteps.

Katsuki stayed.

-

When Katsuki first asked him out Eijirou was over the moon with joy. He was so happy enough to quickly brush away that little niggling feeling in the back of his mind that told him that it was a bad idea.

So, they started dating.

Then breaking up.

Then they dated again; it was a never-ending cycle of miscommunication and low self-esteem issues.

Then Midoriya Izuku came back from America.

A few months later Todoroki Shouto and Midoriya Izuku got married.

A couple of months after that Katsuki asked Eijirou to marry him.

This time he almost listened to that pesky voice in his head.

Too bad he didn’t.

-

He knew the day that it happened for the first time. Katsuki had gotten home late from one of his shifts and had immediately headed to the bathroom to take a shower. It wouldn’t have been so obvious had he not had such a guilty look on his face when he came out.

Eijirou ignored it.

Then it happened again and he ignored the guilt on his face.

Then again and he ignored the way Katsuki flinched when Eijirou kissed him.

Then again and he ignored the way that he turned his face away when they would talk about Izuku and Shouto.

Then he ignored it last night when Katsuki came home late again, but he no longer looked guilty.

But when he woke up this morning and saw Katsuki’s wedding ring still sitting on their dresser he couldn’t ignore it anymore.

So now he’s here sobbing and feeling sorry for himself after destroying his living room, but he knows that when Katsuki walks through that door today he’ll welcome him home with open arms.

He startles when he hears the door opening. He starts to panic because Katsuki wasn’t supposed to be back until later tonight, he was supposed to have time to clean this up and calm himself down.

He opens his mouth and gets ready to make some type of excuse, but when Katsuki walks into the living room and looks at the mess and then his eyes land on Eijirou, all he can see is pity reflected in those usually cold red eyes.

They look at each other for what seems like minutes, but in reality, it probably wasn’t more than a few seconds, and then Eijirou gets it.

He thought his heart couldn’t break anymore than it already has.

But he was wrong.

Because Katsuki hadn’t forgotten his ring this morning by mistake.

Fresh new tears spilled from his eyes, but Katsuki didn’t move to come and comfort him.

There was no ignoring this anymore.

His marriage was over and all he could do was sob.

You say I'm crazy
'Cause you don't think I know what you've done
But when you call me baby
I know I'm not the only one

I know I'm not the only one
I know I'm not the only one
And I know, and I know, and I know
And I know, and I know, and I know, know

I know I'm not the only one
