Chapter Text
It’s 8 in the morning and Gyeoul finds herself sitting on the dining table by herself.
As she drinks her tea, she likes to go through her to-do-list. She checks her texts and e-mails.
Until she finds herself a text from Minha,
‘Gyeoul, don’t forget about the dinner with bridesmaids and groomsmen! Don’t pretend to forget, don’t bail!’
Gyeoul laughed at the last sentence from Minha.
Don’t pretend to forget. Minha knows her so well.
Minha and Seokhyeong are finally getting married. After years, they are finally getting married.
Gyeoul stopped as she thought of the dinner she will have with the bridesmaids... and the groomsmen.
Groomsmen. It’s been years... Gyeoul thought to herself. She hasn’t met Jeongwon in years. She does heard about him, time to time, as Seokhyeong liked to slip in the news to her.
To Seokhyeong and Minha, it was obvious that Gyeoul and Jeongwon are not in a speaking term. They did exchange messages of birthdays, small messages of birthdays.
But Seokhyeong and Minha knew it, that Gyeoul and Jeongwon had stopped doing that.
Both Gyeoul and Jeongwon dated other people too, but none of them seem to be as happy as when they both were together. Gyeoul did date one of Jeongwon’s old friends, Han Seongwoo, which Gyeoul was unaware that Seongwoo is friends with Jeongwon. She only found out later from Seokhyeong.
It was a good relationship, Gyeoul thinks, but it lacks the connection.
Seongwoo was a good guy, but being a good guy itself, is not enough. Seongwoo and Gyeoul broke up in a very adult-like. They gave one another a hug and move on with their life. Seongwoo was a good guy, really. Their personality matched too, but it lacked the connection to Gyeoul.
As she would say to Minha, “I’m afraid I might cheat on him in the future”, as she would let Minha know about the break-up. Of course, it surprised Minha heard that, but it surprised Gyeoul too. A Freudian slip, Gyeoul thinks.
With the break-up with Seongwoo, everyone thinks that Gyeoul has yet to move on. Well, she wonders if there are truths in that.
To Gyeoul, Jeongwon was a part of her past. Jeongwon made her a better person, but to her, he’s just someone in the past.
How ironic, Gyeoul thought to herself.
It was Gyeoul and Jeongwon who played matchmaking for Seokhyeong and Minha.
Now, they will meet again, for the fruit of their matchmaking.
“Have you ever see me in your future?”
“Yes... Gyeoul, I did see you in my future”
“But isn’t there any way.. to work this out?”
“I can’t....”
The conversation still resonates in her ears and memories, very clearly. As if it just happened yesterday.
To Gyeoul, she had never once thought that there will be any day she will spend it apart from Jeongwon. However, things happen, it was beyond her control.. It was beyond their control.
They thought their love was strong enough to conquer everything.
“Gyeoul, with you, every problems are resolvable. Talking to you, being with you, took all the burden away” Jeongwon once said to her.
Gyeoul had found herself wondering, how will it be meeting him again, after all these years?
