Cuddle Crew

Summary:

Is there a better way to relax than cuddling in a comfortable nest of pillows and blankets?

Notes:

Honestly, this was inspired by the label of a plushie I saw while I was out shopping. The label said "Cuddle Crew" and I instantly though of Ateez cuddling :)))

Work Text:

Hongjoong was tired and stressed, and for some reason he chose to lock himself up in the studio instead of enjoying the time off they had. To his tired mind the past few days were a blur and he couldn’t clearly remember the last time he ate or slept more than two hours at a time, he wasn’t even sure what time it was since his phone has died a while ago and he didn’t bother to charge it.

But he was determined to finish the song he was working on and it had to be perfect, and if that meant he had to sacrifice some sleep then so be it. However, it seemed that fate had other plans because he was stuck. Nothing sounded right and he was growing more and more frustrated.

Hongjoong was on the verge of a breakdown when their manager barged in and forced him back to the dorm where he was met with the disapproving glances and scolding words of his band members, who had been worried sick about him. He ate dinner with them then took a shower, hoping to relax enough to be able to sleep early. Freshly showered and dressed in clean pajamas Hongjoong stepped out of the bathroom and was met by the chaos that was their dorm.

“What are you doing?” Hongjoong asked as he watched everyone else carry pillows and blankets to the common room.

“Making sure you get some proper rest,” Seonghwa said, passing by him.

“And watching a movie,” Wooyoung added.

“Don’t forget the cuddles,” Mingi yelled from the kitchen.

Seonghwa pushed Hongjoong towards the nest of blankets and pillows in their living-room before he had time to ask more questions. The beginning of a movie was paused on their TV and the coffee table was pushed against the wall and full of snacks. Hongjoong ended up sandwiched between Seonghwa and Yeosang, buried under a thick blanket and not paying any attention to the movie. Hongjoong was warm and he was finally able to relax his tense body, the stress of the last few days forgotten as he got sleepier and sleepier.

“This is nice,” Hongjoong mumbled as he nuzzled his face into Seonghwa’s shoulder.

Seonghwa hummed as he ran his fingers through Hongjoong’s hair, making him even sleepier than he already was. Hongjoong was lulled to sleep by the movie playing in the background and the hushed conversations between the members. He hadn’t been asleep for long when someone threw themselves on top of him, making Hongjoong jolt awake and groan in annoyance.

“Cuddle me too, hyung!” Mingi whined in a high-pitched voice.

“Mingi! He was sleeping,” Seonghwa chided.

Hongjoong didn’t bother opening his eyes, he just nuzzled further into Seonghwa. He ignored Mingi’s attempts of wedging himself between Hongjoong and Seonghwa, knowing better than to bother when Mingi was in a cuddling mood. He heard Yeosang sigh loudly in annoyance before shuffling away to let Mingi take his place. The rapper didn’t hesitate to take the offered place then wrapped his arms around Hongjoong and squeezed him tightly.

“I need to breathe,” Hongjoong mumbled against Seonghwa’s shoulder.

He felt the eldest shift, probably so he could glare at Mingi, but Hongjoong didn’t move from his comfortable position.

“Let him go back to sleep Mingi, he needs it,” Seonghwa said.

“Sorry hyung,” the younger mumbled as he loosened his hold on Hongjoong.

“Too late, you already woke him up,” Jongho said.

“I wanted cuddles,” Mingi whined.

“You know, some of us want to watch the movie,” Wooyoung said.

Everyone quieted down after that and Hongjoong basked into the warmth and comfort of cuddling the rest of his band mates. He was just now realizing how much he needed something like this, a few hours to just relax and not think about anything. He hadn’t been aware of how stressed he was until he had been forced to take a break to relax. He was sure that when he went to the studio tomorrow everything will go smoothly and he will have enough inspiration to finish the song.

At some point Mingi got up and Yunho took his place as Hongjoong’s cuddle buddy. Yunho, just like Mingi, hugged Hongjoong tightly, squeezing until Hongjoong mumbled an annoyed curse under his breath. Seonghwa admonished Yunho too, like the guardian angel he always was, making Hongjoong smile against his shoulder. But unlike Mingi, Yunho didn’t let go of Hongjoong, at least not immediately. He first squeezed his arms around Hongjoong harder, making him groan in pain.

“Hyung, you are cute,” Yunho said.

“I will end you all, I swear,” Hongjoong threatened.

“We feel threatened by a cupcake,” Yeosang cooed.

Wooyoung’s laugh was so lout that it managed to startle Hongjoong. If he wasn’t so comfortable, he would have thrown a pillow at them, but he just settle for glaring at them. But his glare seemed to amused the others, rather than scare them.

“Ignore them and go back to sleep,” Seonghwa said.

“I’ll still end them … after a nap.”

“I expect nothing less,” Seonghwa said.

Hongjoong settled back against Seonghwa and Yunho, ready to get back to sleep, but Wooyoung seemed to have other plans. He crawled over Seonghwa and settled himself on top of Hongjoong, making himself confortable. San followed soon after, managing to squeeze himself between Hongjoong and Wooyoung somehow, without pushing Hongjoong away from his comfortable position. Soon it was going to be too warm, but Hongjoong found that he didn’t actually care.

“You’re heavy,” he complained.

“No, you’re just too small hyung,” Wooyoung said.

Hongjoong tried to shove the younger off him, but Wooyoung’s grip on him tightened as he laughed loudly at Hongjoong’s half-hearted attempts. He gave up rather quickly, everyone knew it was just for show anyway.

“Hongjoong-hyung is like an angry kitten,” Jongho said.

“Yeah, small and feisty,” Mingi agreed.

Hongjoong rolled his eyes.

“I’m going to ignore you,” he said.

“Go back to sleep,” Seonghwa murmured against the crown of his head.

“I can’t, the children are too rowdy,” Hongjoong complained.

“Because we want your love and attention,” Wooyoung whined, nuzzling his face in Hongjoong’s chest.

“We want our father to love us,” San said.

“Is it too much to ask for?” Yunho asked and if Hongjoong turned to look at him, he was sure he would be pouting.

“I’ll give you attention tomorrow,” Hongjoong said.

“They seem to want it tonight though,” Yeosang spoke.

“Tough luck.”

“Ok, enough, settle down all of you,” Seonghwa said sharply.

A chorus of agreements followed and everyone settled down. Just as he suspected, it was too warm to be under a blanket while he was sandwiched between Yunho and Seonghwa with Wooyoung on top of him and San added into the mix as well. But Hongjoong was honestly too comfortable to move or demand them to get off him. He fell into a deep sleep soon, his last conscious thought being that he was the luckiest person on Earth with such friends by his side.
