Christmas Tavern

Summary:

Jungkook is a new backup dancer for BTS. When he’s assigned to dance for Yoongi’s solo, he starts to catch feelings.

Notes:

I’m back with another horrible Christmas story. This one was really rushed, I had no time because of college applications. I hope it’s a little enjoyable... Thank you to my sister who beta read this for me.
Happy Holidays!

Work Text:

It’s early in the morning when Jimin yelled “Jungkook! Jungkook!” He bursts into his room, startling the younger awake. The silver haired jumps on the bed, shaking the other from his drowsiness.

“I’m up, I’m up. What happened?” The dancer blinks away the sleep from his eyes.

Jimin grins at him, clearly with good news for him. “So,you know how it’s that time of the year when a lot of contracts end? Basically, multiple backup dancers for BTS didn’t renew their contracts.” Jimin clarifies, and Jungkook can already tell where it’s going.

Even before Jimin started dating Taehyung, Jungkook was already a big fan of BTS. He liked their music, and would practice his dance skills with their choregraphies. The three of them spent a lot of time together. Taehyung didn’t mind his company, sohe would come and hang out at their apartment. They were only close with Taehyung, having never met the other 4 members of the band yet. Excluding the one time Hoseok came to take Taehyung home.

In the past year that Jimin and Taehyung started dating, Jungkook became another friend of Taehyung. Of course, they were kept secret from the public, but everything is going well for them. So well that Taehyung had gotten them a job as their backup dancers.

“Taehyung showed his choreographer, Sungdeuk, some of our clips and he agreed to interview us for the job.” Jimin gives Jungkook a recount of his boyfriend presenting him with his dream job. “But we obviously still need to work for it and give a good audition. So you better start preparing.”

Jungkook nods, thanking Jimin and reminds himself to thank Taehyung the next time he sees him.

Jungkook wastes no time and begins thinking of what song he’s going to use. The first thing that comes to mind is doing a song by them, but he wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. Going through all of BTS discography, he decided on ‘So Far Away’. The original song didn’t have choreography to it however, he did choreograph it a while ago. He smiles, immediately liking the idea of using that song.

After preparing for the audition for a couple of weeks, the day finally came. Jungkook was feeling a little nervous. Jimin was beside him, looking visibly calmer  “Kookie, it’s going to be fine. Try your best, and the outcome will be what it is.” Jimin squeezes his shoulder and they walk into the building.

The choreographer is in the room along with a few other guys. Jungkook and Jimin introduce themselves and they sit down to wait for their turn. Everyone who auditioned did well, making Jungkook even more nervous. Right before his turn, Taehyung comes into the room. Jungkook felt better, knowing his friend was there to support him, made him less intimidated. Jimin gave Taehyung a small knowing smile, but overall acted composed. The other guys were surprised at his appearance, and gave Jungkook and Jimin, who were the last ones, a pitiful smile. They all felt bad for Jimin and Jungkook since everyone would be intimidated with Taehyung overlooking their audition.

They made no comments, knowing that it wouldn’t end well if people knew that Jungkook and Jimin were already acquainted with Taehyung. Jungkook got up to stand in the middle of the dance floor. He waits for the music to start, and he gives it his all for the audition. His body moved on instinct, everything became a blur once he finished. They clapped for him, and he saw Taehyung give Sungdeuk a look, in which the choreographer gave the idol a nod back.

Then it was Jimin’s turn. As always, Jimin looks graceful but also powerful while dancing. Even Taehyung couldn’t hide his smile seeing his boyfriend dancing.

After everything is done, they are told to wait for a confirmation phone call to know if they are hired or not. Jungkook doesn’t feel as worried now, knowing he did his best. While they are walking out of the building, Jungkook bumps into someone when he looks up; it was Min Yoongi himself. Jungkook, quickly says sorry and rushes out of the building.

-

Yoongi isn’t really paying attention to his surroundings while he’s talking to Hoseok. That was until he bumps into someone, and it takes him out of his trance. The guy looks up at him with the biggest eyes he’s ever seen. They quickly look away, muttering a ‘sorry’ and hurries out the door. The scent that lingers from the guy struck something inside him.

“Wait, wasn’t that Jimin and Jungkook?” Hoseok mentions after seeing the two run out the door. Yoongi turns his attention back to Hoseok.

“Jimin? As in Taehyung’s Jimin?” Yoongi questions back, glad to hear that he will be able to see the person who bumped into him again.

Hoseok nods and they continue their way to the dance studio.

-

“Jimin I’m going to pass out” Jungkook whines to his best friend. Jimin rolls his eyes at how dramatic the younger is. Jimin’s never met Yoongi before, but he also wasn’t a huge fan like Jungkook is.

“You’re going to be fine. And you have to get used to it. What if we actually get the job? You can’t be dying over Suga everytime”

Jungkook pouts as they make their way to the supermarket. His phone dings, signaling a notification from current news. This time, the headlines are about an idol getting outed as a vampire. Most of the commentary was negative, and he felt bad for the idol.

Jungkook never thought any different towards vampires. They were people like them, only having a different diet. It wasn’t like they could control what they can or can’t eat. Vampires only helped to create more jobs for people. Humans could sell their blood to organizations, and the vampires would be able to buy blood easily. The system works well, but there are still people who discriminate against them.

As he rubs his hands together to warm them, he thinks about when he found out that Taehyung is a vampire.

Jimin has been dating Taehyung for about half a year already, and it’s the first time they were going to eat a meal together. Jungkook was still a little shocked that Jimin managed to date a member of BTS; even more so how chill Taehyung is.

Taehyung is sitting by the counter while Jimin and Jungkook are cooking dinner. They have small conversations and when Jungkook spaces out, he accidentally cuts his finger.

“Ah shit” Jungkook immediately puts his finger under running water. Jimin looks over to see what happened and freezes.

The older whips his head to turn to Taehyung, and the latter is tense, with hands covering his mouth. Jimin rushes over to his boyfriend, looking panicked.

“Are you okay? Taehyung?” Jungkook didn’t understand what was happening. He looks over to Jimin, who is now guiding Taehyung to another room.

“Everything is fine Jungkook. Just take care of your finger for now, okay?” The older one tries to keep a calm face, but Jungkook can see the worry written over his face.

Not wanting to cause more problems, Jungkook nods and wraps his finger in a paper towel.

After a few minutes, Jimin and Taehyung come back to the kitchen, looking more composed than before.

“Are you okay now Taehyung? Let’s eat!” Jungkook tries to act normal again, not wanting to make things awkward.

Once seated, Taehyung doesn’t touch his food and Jimin plays around with his chopsticks.

“So Jungkook, me and Taehyung were talking about something. And we decided that we should tell you about it” Jimin looks up from his plate, his expression serious.

“Was this about what happened earlier?” Jungkook asks the two and Taehyung nods. Jimin grabs Taehyung’s hand, as a sign of reassurance.

They look nervous and Jungkook is curious to what they are going to tell him.

“The thing is that, when you cut your finger and started bleeding, the smell was really strong” Taehyung pauses, looking like he’s hesitating to tell him. “The smell was affecting me because I’m a vampire.”

Jungkook was curious before, but he never expected this. He might be acting like Taehyung just told him aliens are attacking the Earth, but he shouldn’t be. Vampires were just like him, just with a different diet. The government always had a system for them, more jobs were created for people who donated blood and vampires were able to buy them in stores. But there is still bias against them. Idols who get outed as a vampire still gets looked down in the industry. Fans start to feel something against them. Everyone knows the history of vampires before a civilized society, where the only way to get blood was through murder.

“I hope this doesn’t change the way things are with us, Jungkook” Taehyung tells Jungkook in a serious tone, snapping the younger back into reality. Taehyung looks sacred and Jungkoook feels like crying. He never wants anyone to be scared of themselves, based on something they have no control over.

“Hyung, No of course not. I’m so glad you trust me enough to tell me” Jungkook goes to hug Taehyung with no hesitation. The older almost pulls back in shock, but quickly relaxes in the embrace.

“Thank you Jungkook, you don’t know how much this means to me” Jungkook just hugs Taehyung harder.

-

A couple of days later, Jungkook and Jimin get an email asking them to come in for training. The roommates were thrilled and already started making preparations. They wanted to make sure they were getting used to a more rigorous routine, so that they can keep up with everyone. Jungkook and Jimin went to the gym together, and occasionally Taehyung would come join them.

It wasn’t a surprise when on the first day of their training, Taehyung is in the dance studio, already waiting for the backup dancers.

Jungkook had to keep his excitement in when they were going through all the routine. Sungdeuk wanted all of the dancers to learn the cheoreo, and see which one works best for them.

When the next few days roll by, it's already the day where they get assigned to the song. Jungkook tried his best in all of the songs, but he really did hope he is able to be assigned to Suga’s solo.

His luck really had his back when Suga and Taehyung came into the room, personally greeting the new dancers themselves.

“I hope we can work well together,” Yoongi says as bows to his new group of dancers. In the corner of his eyes, Jungkook can see Jimin already giving him a look. It was also no surprise that Jimin is chosen to be in Taehyung’s group.

They were let out right after the groups were decided; Jimin suggesting that the two of them go out to celebrate their new job.

“Wait let me see if Taehyung is free” Jimin is being hopeful; usually his boyfriend is always busy, only free on some weekends and late at night. While the older is texting Taehyung, Jungkook sees a smile forming, which probably means that Taehyung might be free.

“Yay! So Taehyung is free in like 20 mins, but he wanted to invite Suga to come eat together too” Jimin tells Jungkook what happened. They both didn’t feel comfortable calling everyone by their real name, always opting for their stage name since they had never formally met yet.

“Oh okay, thats cool” Jungkook is freaking out inside. Going to eat lunch with The Min Yoongi? His idol and his crush for years? But he knows it's good practice since he will be seeing him more often and he needs to control himself. Jimin gives him a knowing smile and they walk to the restaurant.

Only 10 minutes later, the two walk in and sit at the table Jimin and Jungkook are at.

“Hello, you must be Taehyung’s boyfriend, Jimin?” Yoongi greets Jimin. Taehyung comes to hug his boyfriend before sitting down.

“This is Jungkook, my friend, but you might have already met him at the dance studio” Jimin introduces Jungkook to Yoongi.

“Hi, my name is Jungkook, and I will be part of the backup dancers for your solo” Jungkook tries his best to hide his blush and bows to the older, giving him a respectful greeting. Yoongi smiles at the younger.

“Yes, I’ve seen you at the auditions, I was the one to choose you, even though I don’t know much about dancing but I felt like you would be a good match for my song. And plus Sungdeuk agreed so I didn’t have to worry. Jungkook blushed even more, knowing that Suga personally chose him for this solo song.

“Thank you for choosing me Suga nim, I will do my best” Jungkook gives him another bow to show his gratitude.

Yoongi chuckles, “it’s okay, you can call me Yoongi hyung, you too Jimin” Jungkook nods and they start to order food.

On the first day of going into Bighit, Jungkook tries to act normal as possible. He knows nothing good comes out of being too friendly with Yoongi hyung with just the first few meetings. When he made the mistake of calling him ‘hyung’, the other dancers all stared at him. He knows the older notices, and tries to not be too comfortable around him. But everyone can see the chemistry the two have together.

-

In the next few months of learning the solo and getting to know Jungkook, Yoongi learns that once the younger warms up to someone, he's very pleasant to be around. Jungkook keeps the atmosphere positive, always the goofball and making jokes. Yoongi can’t help but start to be fond of the dancer. His connection with Jungkook through Taehyung betters their relationship.

Soon after a few weeks, it wasn’t just Taehyung, Jimin and Jungkook going out to eat. They would invite Yoongi to a meal, and he would make time to spend with the three.

And before long, Jungkook and Yoongi started to go out to eat only with the two of them. They still always try to be inconspicuous when they go to eat, always meeting at the place, and never seen walking together.

-

After a particularly rough day of practicing, Yoongi decides to ask Jungkook to go out for dinner. It wasn’t an uncommon routine for them, going out to eat,  but for some reason, today felt different.

Like always, the two meet at the restaurant, grabbing a table farest away from other customers. They order food like normal, eat like normal and have small talk like normal. Yoongi couldn’t help but stare at Jungkook while the younger was telling a story about his morning.

‘What if I tell him I’m a vampire’ the thought suddenly came into his mind. He’s been wanting to tell Jungkook, knowing from Taehyung that the other will accept him. Yoongi keeps the thought in the back of his mind throughout dinner.

-

As they were walking to the bus stop, Yoongi decided to throw out all his fears and come clean to Jungkook. “Jungkook I have something to tell you” They stop at a convenience store, the rapper buying them drinks. They stand in front of the store, silent until Yoongi speaks up again.

“When did you first find out Taehyung is a vampire?”

Jungkook stops his movements, the drink in his hand frozen in the air. The dancer seems to hesitate a little bit, but starts to retell the story of the dinner where he learned the truth.

Once he’s done with the story, Jungkook asks Yoongi, “why are you suddenly asking me this?”

The idol sighs, knowing he has to do this now or he won’t have the courage later.

After a few seconds of silence, Yoongi blurts out, “I’m a vampire too”

Jungkook's eyes widened and Yoongi looked away from Jungkook’s face. Deep down he knows Jungkook will still accept him for who he is, but right now he feels exposed.

“Hyung, thank you for telling me this'' Jungkook grabs the older hands. “I promise you hyung I won’t tell anyone, I really appreciate you trusting me” Jungkook gave Yoongi the biggest smile.

Yoongi's chest tightens, his breath knocked out of him.

Without even realizing, Yoongi had started falling for Jungkook.

He looked deep into Jungkook’s eyes to see if the other felt the same way. They had only just met just a month ago, but Yoongi felt something even with just the first glance at Jungkook.

“Can I also ask you something else?” The rapper didn’t know what came over him that day, his fears seemed nonexistent.

Jungkook perks up and nods, his focus is all on the idol. Yoongi lets out a breath, and leans in to kiss Jungkook. The thought of Jungkook not liking him back occurs, and makes him hesitate.

In that split second, he’s aware of Jungkook’s eyes widening and the realization in his face. Then the best thing that Yoongi could only wish for, Jungkook leaning in closer to fill the gap between them.

They pull back shortly, still conscious of their surroundings. It was quiet for a few minutes, both of them still processing what had just happened.

Jungkook suddenly gets a call, snapping the two back into reality. It’s Jimin calling to see where he is. The two of them didn’t realize how long they had been sitting in front of the store.

“Should we get going?” Yoongi stands up, reaching his hand out to Jungkook.

-

When Jungkook looks up, the older is blushing, giving him a small smile. He accepts the offered hand, and they start walking to the bus stop.

There’s more silence while they’re walking, but as they’re getting close to their destination, Jungkook starts to get nervous.

Does Yoongi hyung like me? Why did he kiss me? Am I dreaming?”

Yoongi notices Jungkook deep in his thoughts and knows he has to state the obvious before the night ends.

“I really like you Jungkook” Yoongi smiles under his mask, swinging their intertwined hands.

Jungkook stops and lets out a sigh of relief. “Oh thank god, I thought you just kissed me for no reason I don’t know…” Jungkook keeps mumbling, but Yoongi stops the dancer with a light squeeze in his hand.

He chuckles, “I hope this means you like me too”

Jungkook gives him a shy nod, “I’ve liked you for a while hyung”

Yoongi wanted to give Jungkook another kiss, but because of their masks and surroundings, he didn’t act on it. Instead, he gave Jungkook a light tap on the cheek, without taking off his mask.

The younger blushed as they continued walking.

-

Once Jungkook got home, he let out all his emotions and started going crazy. Jimin rushes out from the living room, wondering what was going on.

“Jimin! Yoongi hyung kissed me? Or I kissed him? I don’t know but he likes me!” Jungkook is jumping around, pulling Jimin into a spin.

“Huh, so he finally confessed?” Taehyung walked out from the living room, smiling. Jungkook looked at the other in shock, not realizing that he was at their house. “Well, I’m going to leave and go bully Yoongi hyung into telling me all about it” Taehyung is pulling on his coat while Jimin said his goodbyes.

When the vampire leaves, Jimin pulls Jungkook into the living room, demanding that that younger tell him everything.

-

The next few months go by smoothly, Yoongi and Jungkook start dating and everyone, Jimin and the rest of BTS, can see how much happier they both were. They kept their relationship a secret, trying their best to act normal when rehearsing or with anyone else. It was a plus when you work with your boyfriend, Jimin and Jungkook can testify to that. They were able to travel together, and never that far apart from each other.

Jungkook had always wanted to perform on stage, and going on tour as a backup dancer for BTS definitely lived up to his dreams. And what better than to spend it with his boyfriend?

-

Finally, the last concert arrives, it’s already the holiday time and Jungkook couldn’t wait for a break. They perform like always, with no mistakes in the way.

As a celebration for the conclusion of the tour and it being Christmas eve, Yoongi takes Jungkook to a small secluded vampire bar. It was something Yoongi didn’t do often, but the two of them decided to spend Christmas together this year. Before going in, he made sure to put his scent on Jungkook, to show other vampires that he’s claimed. Giving Jungkook his jacket to wear, they walk into the establishment together.

Yoongi suggested this place for the sole reason that everyone paid no attention to anyone else. Vampires looked out for each other, and Yoongi knew they wouldn’t expose him, even with his status.

But what they didn’t anticipate, is people seeing them outside.

Yoongi made sure they weren’t being followed, and the bar is farther away from busy streets. He didn’t expect fans to be there, taking pictures of them walking into the building.

They wake up on Christmas morning with messages and calls, making their phones go haywire. Yoongi and Jungkook look at each other with confusion before checking what is happening.

Pictures of the two of them walking into a vampire bar is all over the internet, people assuming that one of them is a vampire.

Because Yoongi has been in the spotlight for a while already, many concluded that Jungkook is the vampire. Now, the media is blowing up Jungkook, calling him a vampire. With many mixed reactions and assumptions, they started to freak out.

“What should we do?” Jungkook asks Yoongi, who is already on the phone with the company. Jungkook checks his messages and he sees the amount of missed calls he got from his relatives. Yoongi hangs up his call, ready to explain Jungkook the plan.

“Everything is going to be alright, they’re going to clear everything up”

Jungkook's phone starts ringing again, and this time he picks up. His mom starts asking him hurried questions, her voice in a panic. Jungkook couldn’t keep up and answer any of her questions.

“Jungkook are you a vampire?” She finally stops to wait for his answer.

Jungkook sighs, “No mom, I promise I’m not. It was a misunderstanding and everything will get sorted out” He tried to explain but his mom wouldn’t have it.

“Then tell me why you were at that type of bar in the first place. Jungkook, there are so many different bars all around the city, why did you have to choose that one?” His mom tries to get more answers out of him, but Jungkook is trying to keep his relationship with Yoongi out of it. The two of them never discussed telling anyone else about their relationship, especially living far away from their parents, it never came up.

Yoongi taps Jungkook’s shoulder, signaling that he wants to talk to him. The dancer puts the call on mute.

“I don’t want to force you, but if it helps you, you can tell her about us. I’m okay with you telling your family” Yoongi tells his boyfriend, who seems to be a little surprised.

“Are you sure? Even about you being a vampire? I don’t want the situation to force you to do something you don’t want to do” Jungkook was trying to make sure, but Yoongi reassures the younger that he is really fine with everything.

Jungkook goes back on call with his mom, telling her everything from their relationship to Yoongi being a vampire. His parents were of course understanding and supportive, but his other relatives on the hand are not. Leaving him with messages, shaming him for being a vampire, calling him monsters and what nots. Even when he knows he’s definitely not a vampire, it still hurts to see how fast his relatives turned their back on him. And being a vampire shouldn’t be a reason to cut him out of their life. He felt emotional just reading all the messages thrown towards him and vampires.

Yoongi notices and couldn’t help but grab Jungkook into his arms. “I’m so sorry Jungkook, but I promise it’ll get better. I’ll clear everything up” Yoongi wasn’t only giving Jungkook empty promises, he knew what he had to do. He felt like it was the right time, a little Christmas present to shock the media.

-

Later that night, they’re sitting down enjoying their Christmas evening. After dinner and exchanging gifts, the two of them are cuddled up and relaxed on the couch.

“How do you think everyone took the news?” Jungkook asks, both of them opting to stay out of social media for a while.

Yoongi chuckles, thinking back to his tweet;

“I hope at least some people laughed at it”
