Chapter Text

Rumors. They follow, attach, detach, and reattach to all things that breathe life. A girl, a boy, a plant, an animal, all things that can be talked about, are, and this was my problem with the world.

The halls were always silent when she walked by. She held an air of authority and strength around her that made people move out of instinct and self preservation. For it was not because she was revered, but because she was feared. Something akin to death had taken to resting in her eyes and the wild yet fixed dark curls atop her head showed off her terrifying beauty. She never talked unless someone decided they would challenge her power. They would always lose. But if her actions and appearance didn’t dissuade someone the rumors surely would.
Mass shooting, killing, death, rape, murderer.
This was not to say she was always like this. No one ever is. But she had seen the disgusting nature of humans and it forever changed her outlook into one of contempt rather than the content existence she had once carried.

She rarely stayed at school for the whole day. It was too painful, too boring, too ordinary. It didn’t capture her attention anymore. So everyday, just before lunch, she would grab her backpack and walk out of the school to a local bookstore or cafe where she could hide away from any humans that dared walk across her path. It was another one of those days; school security stepped aside without a second glance as she left the school doors and made her way towards the path that would take her to thick volumes of thin pages and the comforting smell of coffee.
It was on this day fate, sick of seeing a child of fire walk a dark path, decided to intervene. And intervene fate did, in the form of a wandering child and a speeding car.
How stupid.
She was not a soulless human. No, not by any means. She still had a soul, but she only chose to neglect it up until that moment. A faint flicker among the embers that rested in her chest pushed her legs along the rough pavement towards a little blond child with eyes like the sky.
She looks like a doll.
And then as a push saved a life, it took another.

And just like that, she fell.
