“Wakey wakey!” called Hermes, dropping two plates onto the covers. Jolyne jolted awake, and Foo sat up sharply.
“It’s six in the morning, babe,” groaned Jolyne, lolling her head to the side to see the clock before looking at what Hermes had placed on her lap.
A heart-shaped pancake with raspberry eyes and a chocolate chip smile stared back at her. It was browned on one side and one of the raspberries had rolled out of place. It looked delicious. Foo dropped an unhealthy serving on syrup onto hers and sawed off a large piece with her fork.
“Yeah, I wanted to beat you to making breakfast,” said Hermes, sipping steaming coffee from a mug. Jolyne narrowed her eyes. She had a bad feeling about the day, considering Hermes’s competitive spirit.
“What’s the special occasion?” mumbled Foo through a mouthful pancake.
“Valentine’s Day,” said Hermes.
“Oh, I was wondering what that was.”
Jolyne had to remind herself that most of Foo’s pop culture knowledge came from action movies.
“Don’t you know?” asked Hermes.
“Well, I keep seeing ads for… buying red things for girls?”
“It’s about love,” said Jolyne.
“It’s mostly buying red things for girls,” said Hermes.
Jolyne took a bite of her pancake and had to admit that it was cooked perfectly. Hermes hadn’t forgotten her restaurant training.
The two still in bed ravenously finished their breakfasts as Hermes took a seat with her mug.
“I’m going to shower,” said Jolyne, stretching. “If anyone wants to join me.”
“We’re not gonna try fitting three people in there again,” said Hermes. Jolyne frowned and shuffled out of the room, blinking clinging sleep from her eyes.
She ducked into the bathroom for a moment, to check that it was free of Hermes’s Valentine’s tampering. Seeing it untouched, Jolyne scurried into their sitting room. She came upon a carefully-arranged vase of red roses and cursed Hermes’s thoughtfulness. She carefully dissected two roses for their petals, cursing quietly when a thorn stabbed her thumb. Finally, she seized a few of the unused candles left to the side that her mother had bought them months ago.
Once back in the bathroom, she arranged the petals around the rim of the tub, dropping a few along the path two the door. She lit the candles, careful to keep the shower curtain drawn back. Lastly, she tossed some pink bath soap, also gifted by her mother, into the tub as she turned on the tap.
“I’m starting the water!” called Jolyne. Two sets of footsteps came down the hall, and Jolyne remembered to dim the bathroom lights at the last moment.
Foo stepped in first, eyes widening in surprise. Hermes followed, blinking.
“Happy Valentine’s and all that,” said Jolyne. Foo quickly yanked her shirt over her head, stumbling out of her pants at the same time.
“Nice,” said Hermes. “Where’d you get the rose petals?”
Jolyne took off her own shirt to distract her.
“Wanna join me?” purred Jolyne. She sunk down, turning off the water and shifting a little as she sat on a few rose petals.
Hermes hummed, crouching down and worming her hand around Jolyne’s waist. Foo followed, cupping Jolyne’s face in her hands.
“Can I get in?” asked Foo.
“Mmm-hm.”
“How long have we had this stuff?” asked Foo, scooping up a handful of bubbles. She dropped into the tub, sliding down until only her face showed.
“Dunno,” said Jolyne. “Housewarming gift from Mom.”
“Lemme wash your hair,” Hermes muttered into Jolyne’s ear.
Jolyne stood and shed her pajama pants, bending over towards Hermes and dragging them down her legs slowly. She hadn’t tied up her hair yet, and hoped the way she tossed it over her shoulder was sexy. Foo scooted back to make room, bubbles covering her chest as she emerged out of the water. Jolyne sank down into the hot water and sighed contentedly.
Hermes dug around in the cabinets for a moment before taking out a dish. She sat on the lip of the tub where Jolyne had been moments before and dipped the bowl into the water. Jolyne expected a torrent of water down her face, but Hermes was careful pouring the water so it flowed down her back. Hermes then scrubbed shampoo into her hair, dragging her fingers in gentle circles. Jolyne felt Foo’s legs knock against hers and cracked open her eyes, beckoning her over.
After Hermes had finished washing the shampoo out of her hair, Jolyne took the bowl in her hand and poured water through Foo’s hair as well. She scrubbed the shampoo into her roots and Foo leaned back against Jolyne’s chest. Foo twirled their legs together.
“Come get in,” said Foo as Jolyne combed her fingers through her hair.
“I told you, there’s no room,” said Hermes.
“Just get undressed and put your feet in or something,” said Foo, frowning. Hermes chewed on her lip before sighing and shedding her clothes as well. She sat on the edge of the tub next to Jolyne and Foo, shuffling her feet into the water.
“Let me wash you a bit,” said Foo, brandishing a washcloth. Hermes sighed and leaned forward, before shrieking as Foo dragged her into the water as well. Surprisingly, they didn’t send water all over the bathroom, but Jolyne wheezed as two girlfriends landed on top of her.
“You ass!” grinned Hermes, scampering back so she could sit on the other edge of the tub. Foo guffawed, and Hermes launched a handful of bubbles at her. Hermes pulled the wet hair tie off her wrist and fastened her locs into a high ponytail.
Jolyne pulled her legs to the side of the tub to make room, Hermes folding her legs between Foo’s. With Foo’s legs spread, Jolyne lay a few kisses along one of her shoulders and snaked her fingers along her hip bone. Foo sighed and laid her head back against Jolyne’s shoulder.
With light fingers, Jolyne carefully parted Foo’s lips. She brought her other hand up and kneaded Foo’s plump breast. Foo shivered, and Hermes shot them an accusing look.
“Gross.”
“It’s Valentine’s Day.”
“You can come over, too,” said Foo. Hermes rolled her eyes dramatically and moved to straddle Foo’s legs. Foo dragged a soapy hand slowly down Hermes’s chest before it disappeared under the water.
Meanwhile, Jolyne rolled her fingers over Foo’s clit. She slowly rubbed it between her index and middle finger, feeling as it filled out with blood. Foo’s body felt hot even in the bath water, and she started to pant. Jolyne rolled one of her nipples between her fingers in tandem with the ministrations of her other hand.
Water splashed as Foo vigorously returned the favor to Hermes. Hermes leaned forward and crashed their lips together, hungrily taking the kiss. Jolyne watched over Foo’s shoulder until she stiffened, moaning in a high voice into Hermes’s mouth. Hermes followed soon after, clutching Foo’s arms.
Both sat back, boneless, in the cooling water.
“You haven’t finished yet,” mumbled Foo after a moment.
“I’m fine,” said Jolyne, tapping Foo’s back to get her to stand up. Foo stepped out of the tub on shaky legs, grabbing onto the counter. Hermes glances at Jolyne with her eyebrows raised and Jolyne shrugged as she blew out the candles.
Jolyne was the last out of the bathroom after she gathered up the rose petals. She stepped through the doorway, towelling her hair, to see Foo tapping intently on their laptop.
“What’s up?” asked Jolyne.
“Researching,” said Foo. She turned the screen to show a search for “valentimes.”
“I think I’m gonna get ready and run some errands,” said Jolyne. Hermes glanced over at her and smirked.
“Would you mind visiting Wes and getting our tupperware back?” said Hermes innocently.
“Yeah, fine.”
Jolyne stepped back into their bedroom and dug through her side of the closet. She pulled out what now seemed like a measly gift—a box of chocolates and a delicate chain necklace Hermes had been eyeing. Hand on her chin, she pondered the situation.
Jolyne decided to try the nearby mall first. It would definitely be full of shops trying to pawn off last-minute Valentine’s gifts to desperate, forgetful partners. Not like she was one of them. She remembered Valentine’s Day, but now she had a point to make.
She made a beeline for the lingerie store. She remembered a lacy white bra and underwear set that Hermes had deliberated over for ten minutes and quickly located it on a mannequin. Selecting Hermes’s size from memory, Jolyne shuffled to the cashier while avoiding the price tag. She thrust her card towards the cashier before she could feel guilty about the price, and quickly made her way outside to the rest of the mall.
Next on her list was a set of lotions Hermes had gratuitously sampled. She also picked up a bath spa set for Foo. She grabbed a scented candle—they’d have to start using up the ones accumulated from gifts—and a set of heart-shaped tea bags—they’d have to start drinking tea. Three matching bracelets and her own bouquet of roses completed her set.
As she hopped back into the car, Jolyne remembered that she had to stop at Wes’s house. She rapped her fingers against the wheel and pulled out of the parking lot towards his house.
Wes appeared in the doorframe only seconds after Jolyne rang the bell with her tupperware in hand.
“Hermes said you’d be coming,” he said.
“Uh, thanks,” said Jolyne. She heard shuffling further inside the house and glanced over Wes’s shoulder to see her father, shirtless.
“Do you want to say hi to your father?” asked Wes.
“No, thanks,” said Jolyne through gritted teeth. The last thing she needed was to deal with her dad being weird on Valentine’s Day. She still didn’t understand why her friend had run off with him.
Wes raised his eyebrows a touch but said nothing, instead giving her a polite farewell. Jolyne hurried to the car and sped back towards her own home.
Jolyne snuck into the house, trying to keep the numerous shopping bags on her arms from smacking into every wall. An amazing smell wafted through the house, so she decided to avoid the kitchen for the moment if someone was there. She wrote Foo and Hermes’s names on each bag and began staging them around the house. She finally reached the kitchen with the last bag and saw Foo ducking down to look into the oven. Foo glanced up as Jolyne set the bag down on the kitchen table.
“No, it’s a surprise!” cried Foo. “Stay out!”
“I got you a gift,” frowned Jolyne.
“Go, go, go, it’s not ready yet!” pushed Foo, shooing her out of the kitchen. Jolyne pouted as the door closed in her face.
She realized she still had the tupperware in her hand, but she couldn’t return it to its proper drawer now. Just before she sat it down on a table, she noticed a piece of paper inside the plastic. She removed it and unfolded the note.
“To find the first clue’s hiding place, it isn’t a person but has hands and a face — Hermes”
Jolyne’s brow creased. Was Hermes really rhyming? What had come over her?
She drummed her fingers on the side of the tupperware for a moment before her gaze landed on the blinking digital clock on the table. She remembered that they had one analog clock in the bedroom.
She hurried into the bedroom and wrenched the clock from the wall, making a piece of paper flutter to the ground. She snatched it up and quickly unfolded it.
“It hums and clicks and shows you pics, opening it will do the trick — Hermes”
Jolyne wanted to bang her head against the wall once or twice. A camera? But they didn’t have a camera. She stalked out of the bedroom and paced for a moment. She glanced at their laptop and considered searching the Internet for the clues, and quickly crept over. As she opened the laptop, she saw another folded piece of paper.
Jolyne pursed her lips. That wasn’t a very good clue.
“Somewhere hiding in a tree is where you’ll find clue #3 — Hermes
P.S. don’t look up clues”
Outside, the Florida weather was still balmy even in the winter. She quickly located a note pinned to a stout palm tree and unfolded it.
“Time to get down for clue #4, look for a place that’s near the door — Hermes”
Jolyne wandered around to the front of the house and swept her gaze over the door frame. After a moment, she noticed a slip of paper sticking out from beneath the doormat.
“Here’s another one! What has no legs, but can run? — Hermes”
Jolyne crumpled up the note and stalked inside. She came across Foo, who had finished whatever she was doing in the kitchen and was hunched over her own slip of paper.
“You too?” sighed Jolyne. “I have no idea what this one means.”
“Don’t tell me, it’s a secret,” said Foo.
“Says who?”
Foo shrugged and wandered off further into the house. Jolyne looped back into the kitchen and looked over the cooling trays of cookies on the counter. They had a dollop of jam shaped like a heart in the center of each. She went to grab one off the tray before it burned her and she winced, sucking on her burnt thumb.
As she went to turn on the water to rinse her burn, she saw a note leaning against the faucet.
“Water runs, I guess…”
“This is your final clue, what goes on before your shoes? — Hermes”
“Finally,” groaned Jolyne. She ran her hand under cold water before walking back to the bedroom.
She dug her hands into the sock drawer and rustled around for a moment before removing a few socks with bundles inside. One, not sure how Hermes fit it inside the sock at all, was an eyeshadow palette that Jolyne was sure had sold out online within minutes. The next sock held a dark tube of lipstick. Finally, she removed a smart watch.
Jolyne stood, mouth agape, holding the expensive gifts. She didn’t notice Hermes step through the door behind her.
“Like them?” she asked.
Jolyne nodded wordlessly, eyes wide.
“I liked yours too,” said Hermes. She held her hand up to Jolyne’s face. “Smell.”
Jolyne sniffed and recognized one of the lotions she had bought for Hermes. She smiled a little, before sighing.
“What’s up?” asked Hermes.
“I dunno,” said Jolyne. “It just feels like we’re trying to one-up each other today. I mean, what the hell made you rhyme?”
“I thought a bit of competition would make it fun,” said Hermes.
“I guess,” said Jolyne. “But I don’t get the point.”
“Really, I just wanted to impress you and Foo,” said Hermes. She took Jolyne’s face in her hands.
“I love what you got me because I know you were thinking about me, not because you spent money on me. I don’t even care about all that if we get to spend time together.”
Jolyne pursed her lips.
“There’s one thing that I had got you before all this, if you still want it…”
“Of course, babe.”
Jolyne ducked into the closet and rummaged around, tossing out the little box holding the necklace and locating the box of chocolates. She noticed something else by her hand and snickered, stashing it in the box of chocolates.
She held out her gift with a cheeky smile. Foo scampered in at the same time, launching herself under the bed and pulling out a pair of socks. Hermes took the box of chocolates and flipped it over to read the flavors on the back.
“Season 3 of Seinfeld!” Foo crowed. Next, she pulled out a handful of gift cards to coffee shops and smoothie bars.
“Why don’t you open yours?” prodded Jolyne. Hermes squinted at the label on the chocolates.
“I want an orange one—oh,” she said as she flipped open the red box. A fluorescent dildo sat garishly erect amongst the chocolates.
“I have to eat these,” Hermes scowled, holding up the end of the dildo with her thumb and index finger like it was contaminated. Foo snickered from beside the bed.
“It’s not like you haven’t already eaten everyone that’s been inside—oof!”
Jolyne had the breath knocked out of her as Hermes tackled her backwards onto the bed, chocolates forgotten. She loomed over Jolyne, looking completely devilish.
“I still have to pay you back for earlier,” said Hermes. “Foo, would you grab the harness?”
Hermes’s eyes lit up with a mischievous glow as Foo fished the harness out of their bedside table and crawled up to sit by Jolyne’s head.
“We’ve gotta show our appreciation,” said Foo innocently.
“Do your worst,” said Jolyne.
Foo took Jolyne’s wrists in one hand and pinned them above her head. When she pouted, Foo placated her with a long kiss and slowly lifted her shirt, rubbing her chest. Hermes at the same time began massaging her thighs, opening up her legs and appreciatively grabbing the soft skin there.
Jolyne gasped as Hermes licked a broad stripe all the way up her pussy. She tensed and jumped instinctively, but Foo held her in place. Foo began flicking Jolyne’s nipples delicately, and she let out a few soft noises before glaring at Hermes’s smug expression.
“I’m gonna go grey up here with how long you’re taking,” grumbled Jolyne.
“No, you won’t,” said Hermes, mouth still on Jolyne’s folds. She shuddered. “I’m taking my time on you since you didn’t want me to show you up.”
Still, Hermes relented, eventually replacing her mouth with spit-soaked fingers.
“You’re so wet, babe,” cooed Hermes.
“Are you pent up from earlier?” asked Foo from beside her head. Jolyne somehow blushed deeper and swung her head to the side in embarrassment.
“We’re taking care of you now,” said Hermes, curling her fingers against Jolyne’s front wall. Jolyne jolted at the sensation before Hermes fully drew her fingers out of her. She glanced up to see Hermes fastening the dildo into her strap harness before Foo leaned down and captured her in another kiss.
She was vaguely aware of Hermes maneuvering her legs over her shoulders through the haze of Foo’s tongue. She panted into the other woman’s mouth, who tweaked her nipples again in response.
Hermes pushed inside Jolyne while she was distracted and Jolyne clamped down on the strap. Her legs clasped tightly around Hermes’s shoulders and Hermes slowed for Jolyne to relax. Foo pulled back, brows knitted in concern. After a moment, Jolyne nodded, not trusting her voice to be coherent at all.
Hermes hung over Jolyne’s stomach as she snapped her hips back and forth, bending her legs over her chest. One hand slithered down her thigh to trace slow circles around Jolyne’s clit and she let her head fall back, gone.
Jolyne’s lips were becoming sore from biting them to keep the noises inside and she looked up at Foo.
“Sit on my face,” she pleaded, words punctuated with tiny moans. Foo looked surprised for a moment before leaping to her feet and slithering out of her clothes. Jolyne only had a moment to admire her large chest before her face was taken up by two thighs and a hot pussy.
Jolyne found herself moaning with abandon now that her noises were muffled. Foo’s thighs tensed around Jolyne’s head at each vibration and she squeaked. With her hands freed, Jolyne grabbed at Foo’s hips and pulled her closer.
Hermes hadn’t paused for a moment during the exchange. Her thrusts were long and skilled, brushing against Jolyne’s walls in a way that made her eyes squeeze shut even tighter. She picked up speed on her clit, thumb working in tight circles, and Jolyne felt her release approaching inevitably. She furiously licked at Foo’s slit, mimicking the sensations coming from her own pussy, before her legs clamped around Hermes’s shoulders again and she gasped.
Foo lifted herself off to give Jolyne room as she tossed her head back and moaned. Hermes’s rhythm stayed the same and Jolyne’s hands shot forward to grab where Hermes held her thighs.
As she gradually relaxed, Hermes slowed and pulled out. Jolyne felt her pussy tremble and clench at the loss of feeling and blushed as she saw Hermes watching. Hermes grabbed the strap and ground it against herself, joined by her fingers pushing inside. She furiously worked her hands as Foo knelt down and left soft kisses over Jolyne’s face.
“Feeling good?” asked Foo.
“Mm… you haven’t come yet,” mumbled Jolyne.
“I came at the same time as you,” said Foo, blush rising on her cheeks. Jolyne put on a dopey smile and kissed Foo again, softer this time.
Hermes’s eyes were on the women beneath her as she came with a shout, hands trembling. She quickly recovered and tossed her harness to the side, clambering over the cuddling pile on the bed.
“It’s gonna stain the sheets,” frowned Jolyne.
“I’ll clean it in a second,” said Hermes, wrapping her arms around the sleepy women. Jolyne didn’t feel like arguing as exhaustion pulled at her eyelids and she snuggled into two pairs of arms.
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” mumbled Foo before the trio drifted into sleep.
