Work Text:

Step one is to cook for him. Or maybe with him?
Jin always loved cooking. He's very good at it and it brings him piece of mind. Jin's also pretty sure that Namjoon fell in love with him after tasting one of his dishes.

The thing is when Seokjin discovered that Namjoon is complete catastrophe in a kitchen at the beginning of their relationship he had doubts. He was worried how it will work between them when he can't share his biggest passion with his partner. But Namjoon proved him wrong. He's been trying to help Jin with cooking even though he didn't know how. So Jin started to give him small tasks like chopping carrots or peeling potatoes. And yeah Namjoon wasn't very good even at those easy things but Seokjin showed him how to do it right again and again until he was almost as good at it as Jin himself.

Truthfully Jin loves when Namjoon helps him cook. It's much more fun with him. It's also very domestic. Jin feels good when he's cooking but with Namjoon it's much better. And Jin of course looks amazing while cooking which is good thing because his boyfriend can't keep his hands for himself.

And even after they've been together for four years and lived together for half of it nothing changed. Jin is chopping onion when he feels the familiar big hands sneak around his waist and then there's firm chest pressed against his back. The warm engulfs him like a warm blanket. Namjoon loves hugging Jin from behind when he's cooking. He buries his face in Jin's shoulder.

"What are you doin'?" he murmurs, voice deep and raspy.

"Cooking," Jin chuckles. "Are you hungry?"

"Just a little. Can it wait? I wanna cuddle." Namjoon starts trailing kisses from Jin's shoulder to his jaw.

"Just cuddle?" Jin shivers when he feels Namjoon's hot breath on his cheek. He gently pries his boyfriend from his body and turns around. He secretly loves when his boyfriend is touchy even though he's distracting him right now. He kisses Namjoon on the lips.

Needless to say things escalates pretty quickly and Jin finds himself being lifted to the kitchen counter. He can't say he's surprised. Cooking with Namjoon is always fun even when it takes much longer.

Which brings us to the second rule which is to give Namjoon attention.
It means don't ignore him and be attentive to his needs. When Namjoon needs cuddles Jin will cuddle the hell out of him and when he needs... well even more physical contact Jin will very happily give it to him.

But it is also important to listen to Namjoon's rambling even when Jin doesn't understand all those foreign words. But he tries for his boyfriend. Sometimes all Namjoon needs it's to have someone there. Someone who will listen to his worries even if it's middle of the night.

Because Namjoon likes to think and that leads to over thinking. Which is third rule. Don't let him think too much. That usually leads to self doubts or sad thoughts about how fuck up is the society. But about society problems Namjoon usually talks with Yoongi preferably when they're both tipsy because tipsy Yoongi likes to curse at capitalism.

Nevertheless Seokjin never knows when Namjoon starts thinking too much. Like today. Jin comes home around half past three in the morning. He was playing games with Jeongguk at his apartment. Jeongguk wanted to try some new game for more players on his streaming account and Jin offered to play with him. He was no longer shy in front of large audience watching him in real time like he used to be few years ago so he really enjoyed it.

When he comes home there's dark everywhere which means that Namjoon isn't working. Sometimes when the inspiration hits him he stays up all night and works. Jin is glad that his boyfriend is sleeping tonight. He goes to bathroom and removes the little makeup he has on. He usually don't bother using makeup because his face is beautiful as it is but Jeongguk's boyfriend Taehyung wanted to use it on him so he let him.

He isn't feeling particularly tired because he woke up late that morning. And late means one pm. After brushing his teeth he goes to the bedroom and starts to quietly undressing in the dark. But something is wrong. It's too quiet there. Normally he would hear Namjoon's soft snoring but now he hears nothing. He turns on the light and the bed is empty.

Jin sighs and makes his way to the balcony. He didn't even noticed before that the door was open. Namjoon is sitting on one of the chairs on the balcony with blanket around his shoulders. He acknowledges Jin after a while of silence.

"You're home," he says quietly and his beautiful eyes are looking at Jin like he's some precious gem.

"Aren't you cold?" Namjoon asks when Jin doesn't say anything. Yes, Jin is feeling a little cold because he had already took of his pants and socks. So he plops down on Namjoon's lap and wraps his arms around his warm torso. His boyfriend adjusts the blanket so it's more on Jin.

"Why're you still up?" Jin buries his cheek into his boyfriend's hoodie.

"I couldn't sleep. I dunno... well I guess I've been wondering about something for some time and I can't decide what my opinion is and-" Namjoon stops talking because Jin presses his lips on his.

"How about I'll help you stop thinking for now and we'll figure that thing out together in the morning," he whispers against Namjoon's lips.

"Okay, that sounds good. I love you," Namjoon says between kisses.

"Love you too, Joonie. Now use your weight lifting skills and carry me to the bedroom."

The rule number four is talk to him. Because communication is key to every healthy relationship. Also because Namjoon is adorably oblivious every time someone tries to say something subtly to him. So Jin just goes for it and say what he thinks even though he knows Namjoon is extremely attentive to everything he does and tries to understand Jin without words.

Jin isn't shy with Namjoon and says what he wants and what's on his mind. He says it out loud when he thinks that Namjoon's obsession with crabs is adorable. He also says that Namjoon would definitely starve to death without him. He says that he wants Namjoon to fuck him against the wall after he watched him workout four times a week for a year. And he also says that he feels like he has to share Namjoon with Yoongi when he's video calling Yoongi's boyfriends Hoseok and Jimin even though Namjoon is in the same room as him.

They are having breakfast in the morning and Namjoon is rambling about the thing he thought so hard the night before. In the start he's hesitant after Jin brings it up but then he starts talking.

"You know I was thinking about weddings. Like I know it's just a legal paper about property and stuff but like it has to have another reason. You know even though homosexual marriage isn't legal here people still do it. Like they do it for the feeling I guess. It's what weddings were supposed to be, aren't they? Because you wanna promise the love of your life that you will try to love them until you die."

Jin chews his omelette for a while. Then a thought hits him and he just says it out loud. "I would marry you."

Namjoon's eyes widens. "You would?" He's staring at Jin like he just said something very unexpected.

"Yah, stop staring at me like that Kim Namjoon." Jin's face is red. "Yes, I would marry you. Even though nothing would change legally and there would still be lots of stuff that hetero couples can do and we wouldn't but I would marry you. Because I know that I can't promise you that we will be together forever but I would promise you I would try my best to grow old with you and love you as long as I can."

"Oh my god, Jin," Namjoon's cheeks are dusted pink. "I love you so fucking much. Would you do it now? Would you say yes if I would propose you?"

"I-I...yeah I would," Jin stutters, not sure what Namjoon is trying to say.

"Than let's do it. Marry me." And then Namjoon is kneeling in front of Jin's chair, offering him a ring that was just a few seconds ago on his finger. "Will you please marry me, Kim Seokjin?"

The fifth rule is to agree with all Namjoon's crazy ideas because they are the best. Like when they went bungee jumping. Jin is not afraid of jumping when there's Namjoon by his side. With him he gladly jumps.

"Yes, yes I will." Jin's feeling like he's floating, he has red face and his eyes are suspiciously wet.

Namjoon puts the ring on his ring finger and Jin squeals: "You did not just propose me over breakfast!"

"Yeah, I can't believe it either, love." Namjoon's hair are tangled from sleep, he's only wearing sweatpants and his dimpled smile is blinding. He never looked better.

"Come here and kiss your fiance," Jin says shyly, testing the word on his tongue. Then Namjoon pulls him in a kiss. They are kissing slowly and clumsily because they can't stop smiling and it's perfect.

Their relationship was never perfect. They used to have these huge fights right after they moved in together. It was because they were still getting used to living together. The fights would usually end either with passionate sex or with one of them leaving their apartment. It wasn't the healthiest way how to handle arguments but they already learned from their mistakes.

Usually it was Namjoon who left after the fight but sometimes it was Seokjin. After that it was usually Namjoon who end up calling Jin saying he miss home. The strange thing was that he did it even when it was Jin who was camping on Jeongguk's couch not Namjoon. When Jin asked why he misses home when he is home Namjoon just answered that Seokjin is his home and that he misses him. Since then Jin took his role as Namjoon's home seriously and tried to be as warm and welcoming as possible. And that is sixth step on Jin's list: be Namjoon's home.

One would think that Namjoon doesn't know about Seokjin's rules, about the steps he follows when he's trying to take care of him. The thing is that Namjoon knows. He knows because a few months ago Jin drunk too much and spilled all the six rules to him. And Namjoon finds it really adorable and endearing but he added last step, a last rule which is to let Namjoon take care of Jin.

In Namjoon's opinion seventh rule is the most important one. It means spoiling his fiance endlessly and taking care of him with all the love he deserves. It means making Jin happy. And that's exactly what Namjoon wants to do for the rest of his life.

They invite all their friends to celebrate their unplanned engagement. Jimin, Taehyung and Hobi are squealing from excitement while crushing Jin in hugs. Jin's face is colored a beautiful shade of red and he's trying to hide behind Jeongguk from the overly hyped up friends. Yoongi is standing away trying to maintain some personal space and Namjoon is standing beside him.

"You have bigger guts than I thought," Yoongi says to him, his smile showing his gums.

"It's not like I was planning to do it," Namjoon grumbles, tips of his ears red.

"Oh please, you said to me year into your relationship with Jin that he's the one you wanna marry."

"Joonie, save me!" Jin is suddenly yelling from under their friends that piled up on him on the couch.

In the end they let go of Jin willingly and Jimin and Hoseok wraps themself around Yoongi instead. They all end up sitting around the coffee table planning their wedding. Jin is curled up by Namjoon's side and it's warm and comfortable. Namjoon has everything he ever wanted and even more and Jin is content that he's the only one who will ever need to use the rules.
