Work Text:

"Sooooo," Amity asks, "What do we do now?"

"Hmmm," Luz responds, "Well, since Eda went out with King and won't come back till tomorrow, and also Hooty is sleeping, that means we got the rest of the day to ourselves!"

"Well yeah, I understood that part, but what should we do?"

"There's tons of fun stuff we could do! We could watch some Azura movies, or play a board game. I pretty sure this is the beginning of a sleepover! Or a second date? Whichever you prefer, Amity."

"Se-se second d- date?" Amity stutters. The heat rushed to her cheeks and covered them with her hand.

"Yeah, don't you remember we had our first date just last week? Don't tell me Ed and Em made me go out with an illusion, you know."

"How could I forget? It was the best day I've ever had! It- it's just..." Amity shifts her body to face Luz properly, removes her hand from her face, and starts fiddling with her fingers, slightly embarrassed.
"I'm still kinda adjusting to this whole 'dating' thing. Not that I don't like it, quite the opposite, actually. I only confessed to you two weeks ago, and it still feels surreal to me. I love spending time with you, but sometimes my brain would just shut down by seeing your cute face or when you say something stupid."

"Awwww! Amity! You could get soo sappy! In a good way, of course. Like a big bowl of syrup! Sweet and sappy!"

"And there's one of your many dumb, cute sayings." Amity teases.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm a nerdy romantic. And I'm sure you love me for it." Amity hums in agreement. "Well, in that case, we don't have to do anything too 'intense.' We could start with something small and build up from there."

Amity perks up, "That sounds nice... But it still leaves us in the same dilemma. I didn't plan anything for us to do. And you know how I like to be prepared." Luz hums in agreement.

Amity clears her throat and puts on a formal tone. "As you should know by now, I expect nothing but the best from my girlfriend. Hugs and cheek kisses will be preferred. Also, the occasional jokes will be allowed but, ONLY if they're bad ones. If you just so happen to tell the utmost worst joke possible, I just might have a little reward for you."

Luz's face reddens as she understands what is implied and still puts on a 'cool' attitude just to impress Amity. "Roger that! Miss Blight. All we need now is a simple activity."

Luz glances around the house to see if anything catches her eye. Again, nothing too intense. Maybe a relaxing start to their date. She looks around the room again, this time with a more specific activity in mind.

Finally, her eyes rest on an object in the kitchen, one familiar to her. So at least she knows the activity would be perfect for herself and Amity.

"Alright! Activity secured! Let's get this sleepover date started!" Luz exclaims. She grabs Amity's hand and pulls her over to the kitchen.

"Um... Luz?" Amity asks as she glances around the new surrounding, "I didn't expect slicing apples and chopping onions to be... You know, part of our romantic night together."

"Pssh! Please! To imagine that you actually think I could cut onions. That's far too complex for me." Luz teases. Amity rolls her eyes but, then again, she had requested for her bad jokes, so she can't complain.
"But yes, we will be cooking, or I should say baking, and before you change your mind..." She pauses as she sees Amity raise an eyebrow. Concerned that Luz will be using an oven and as clumsy and lovably she is, it's still a worry. She allows Luz to continue.

Instead of finishing her explanation, Luz skips over to the fridge and looks up, realizing now she's too short to retrieve the box placed at the top. She jumps and waves her arms frantically along the top surface unknowingly; due to her height once more.

Finally, but not so stylishly, she swipes the box from the top, and it knocks to the floor. Luz scampers to the ground and retrieves it while wiping off some of the dust particles the box collected. She reveals it to Amtiy upside-down.

Amity puts her hands on Luz's and flips the box right-side-up to read it.

"'Betty Crocker Super Moist vanilla cake mix,'" Amity reads, "You wanna bake a cake?"

"Yeah! Of Course! I always used to bake a cake with mami back home, so I thought, why not share this soon-to-be messy experience with my girlfriend? I'm just glad Eda found one from the human world."

Amity sighed placed a hand on her hip. "Everything alright, Amity?" Luz ask.

"No, I have zero experience in cooking. My parents hire chefs to prepare all our meals or snacks. You should see me try to make a sandwich." The witch joked.

"Well, I'm not too experienced either. I once almost burnt a kitchen boiling water believe it or not." Amity laughed a bit, and obviously, she believed it, knowing how clumsy Luz is. "But this is simple," Luz continued, "Only three ingredients are needed: Eggs, water, cinnamon, and oil. Nothing us amateurs can't handle."

"I guess your right. Just be careful, please." Amity said shyly.

"Oh, don't worry about me. There's no steaming pot of water needed for the recipe, so no fires will be started." Luz assured.

With no other interruptions in the way, Luz grabbed a bowl from the cupboard and placed it counter. While Amity retrieved the eggs and a package of Snagback cinnamon from the fridge, the oil from the overhead pantry of liquids and potions, and filled the measuring cup with water with the required amount. She placed all the ingredients next to the bowl.

They both fell into a conversation about school while they added the ingredients one at a time. Once all the ingredients were added, the batter came to part. Starting to thicken from its once liquidy form and becoming a smooth, yellowish, lumpy batter. Not to mention the vanilla-ish aroma emerging from it. They couldn't wait to eat it. One more than the other...

"Luz!" Amity half-shouted as Luz dipped her finger in the batter and licked it. "You're not supposed to eat the batter. It says so at the back of the box."

Luz quickly swallows the batter to respond. "They don't actually mean that; nobody really got sick from that... At least, I think so." She mumbled the last part too quiet for Amity to hear. "Why make the batter taste good if not meant to be eaten?"

"Those are raw Snaggleback eggs, Luz. I don't know if humans are affected by salmonella but, I do know witches are. And since those are Snaggleback eggs, the impact is more than other eggs; the sickness may last ten to fifteen days."

Luz gives a slightly terrified shriek. "Well, if you wanna shower me with facts, I'd like to recover with hugs and cuddles and get prescribed kisses as medicine... That leaves you with the job as my nurse."

Amity's face turns rose red and avert her vision from Luz by covering her eyes and shifted her body with her back facing Luz.

"Awwww!" Luz chimes, "I love making you flustered." She steps closer and wraps her arms around Amity's waist from behind.

Amity stumbles a bit, still recovering from the recent flirtation. "Whatever, Luz," Amity finally responds, leaning into the embrace. "Let's put this cake in the oven already."

After stalling a little longer in the hug, they break apart and pour the cake batter from the bowl into a buttered circle-shaped baking pan. Despite the scolding the Amity just gave, Luz still scrapes the remaining batter off the bowl with her finger and licks it because 'it's just too good to put to waste,' as she says.

They place the pan into the already preheated oven, sits on the couch, and fall into a conversation as they wait. After about 50 minutes, the sound of the quite literal screeching timer clock goes off, alerting them that the cake is finished. Luz is the first to get up, and Amity follows suit.

As Luz opens the oven, the kitchen is immediately filled with the previous vanilla-ish aroma, but this time it's better. They both take in the heavy whiff of the scent, both letting out an "mmm," hum. Before Luz rushes to take out the cake, she's reminded by Amity's shoulder tap to put on mittens.

"Should the infamous Mittens be putting on the mittens?" Luz asks.

"That's how I got my nickname, actually..." Amity pauses a bit to recall her childhood 'obsession,' as her siblings would call it.
"When I was younger, during the wintertime, Willow gave me a pair of mittens at school when I didn't have my own. At first, I didn't want to just take something from her like that without giving her anything in return, but she insisted, and you know how Willow wouldn't take no for an answer."

"That's Willow." Luz chimes in.

"Yep. I'm glad Willow insisted. It was so comfortable and in my favorite color and, I pretty much got attached." Amity laughs a bit, recalling the memories she had. "I wore it everywhere. To bed and at dinner and never got tired of it. It was until one day I took it off while doing homework, and the next thing I know, it was gone. I never saw it again."

"You never bothered to find it?!" Luz asked, quite intrigued by this newfound information.

"I did. I looked everywhere for it! I'm sure Ed and Em hid it somewhere; they kept teasing me how oddly attached I was to it, so they're my only suspects."

"Wow, Amity! One day I'll help you find those mittens. Promise."

"Thanks, Luz," Amity's gaze returns to the baked cake still sitting in the oven. "Now that the childhood stories are done. Let's eat the cake already."

Without hesitation, Luz quickly slipped on the oven mittens, took off the stove, took out the cake, and popped it out of the pan onto a wire rack on the counter.

It was perfect.

It popped out of the pan perfectly with no piece of the cake sticking to the pan. It rose perfectly with a bump-like surface. And, most importantly, it was baked evenly. No burnt marks to be seen and no raw parts either.

"Pretty good for our first try, huh?" Luz asked.

"Definitely," Amity responds with her eyes glued to the cake. "No more admiring now." Amity picks up the knife kinda menacingly as if she was gonna kill somebody. "Let's dig it!"

"Apapapapa!" Luz grabs Amity's hand to put down the knife."Wait a second, antsy-pants. We still need to put the icing."

"Icing? But it looks good already."

"Trust me, once we put the icing on, it'll be ten times better!" Before Amity could try to convince her otherwise, she dashed past her, grabbed the icing from the fridge before also grabbing the icing spatula from the nearby draw.

"Here," Luz said, extending her arm to give Amity the spatula. "I'll help you spread it as well."

With a small amount of hesitation, Amity took the icing spatula from Luz into her own grasp. Luz followed by wapping her soft hand around it.

Together, they opened the lid of the 'Party flavored' icing cover and took out a generous amount of icing with the spatula, and began spreading it around the cake.

Luz was a mere few inches away from Amity's face (which they did not mind) as she guided her through the up-and-down spreading motion. After a few more extra icing was added to cover the cake entirely, they finally finished. They put down the spatula and take a couple steps back with the grasp now turned into an interlock.

"I think we kinda overdid it on the icing," Amity states.

"Nonsense. There's no such thing as too much icing. The more, the better!"

"Soo... Does this mean..."

"Yes, Amity. We could eat."

"Finally! Thank you!" Amity quickly gives Luz a hug before grabbing plates from the cupboard and sliced two pieces with the previous knife on the counter. Licking the utensil rid of icing once the pieces are cut.

With both plates in hand, they walk back to the living room and sit closely together on the couch with a crystal ball on the center table. Luz navigates through it swiftly on Hexflix to find a movie and agree on the third Azura movie: Azura and the deadly trials of Häagen-Dazs. Once it was put on, Luz sits with a 'Plop' and leans her head on Amity's shoulder. She leans in as well.

"I'm glad we did this," Amity says, "Not only did I get to spend time with my favorite person, but I got a delicious outcome from it too."

"Yep! I'm sure I baked you really happy." Luz said with a smirk.

"...Excuse me?"

"All I'm saying is that I enjoyed spending time with you too. But sharing one of my Earth activities with you as well..." Luz nudged Amity's shoulder, " That was just icing on the cake."

"Come on, Luz, I thought we were having a moment."

"And I'll bake sure maintain this moment Crockerly. It's a piece of cake to get all romantic with you."

"Alright, Luz, that's it."

"What? You told me to make dumb jokes, and I delivered. Now, where's that reward of min-." And Amity shut her up by closing the gap in between them.

Luz leaned up slightly to better their angle as they kissed passionately. All the surrounding sounds went quiet as there were more important things happening now. The taste of vanilla and cinnamon lingered on their lips as they broke apart for air, and they craved for more. Kiss after kiss happened, caring nothing about the ongoing movie. This is what matters most right now.

Amity never said it out loud, but she thinks Luz's jokes couldn't get any worst than the ones recently said. So she had to make sure that this was the best reward to give.

And boy did she love giving it.
