Chapter Text
As Tsukauchi arrives at the police station he prepares himself for whatever cases he might himself working with today. He walks up to a police officer with a dog-mutation quirk, who is standing in front of his office, obviously waiting for the detective to arrive.
“Hello officer!”
The police officer turns his head and looks at the smiling man, in his paw like hands he holds two files, probably a new case for the detective.
“Good morning, detective.”
“New cases?”
“Yes, we believe they might be connected to the ones you are working on. One is about a man called Reiji Hokori, who was found dead in his apartment yesterday. It seems the door lock was broken, the door knob taken off and nowhere to find, no fingerprints or DNA of the murderer could be found. The victim seems to have been slammed into the wall, hitting his head multiple times, before getting their throat slit open. Nothing in the apartment is missing or damaged. There are also no signs of a fight, the victim was found lying on his bedroom floor by a member of the cleaning staff.”
Tsukauchi frowns at how familiar the information given to him sounds. He is currently working on multiple murder cases, the murderer has not been seen at any of the scenes and their motives are still unknown. They never leave any fingerprints or DNA behind and remove items which might have fingerprints on them. The victims are killed by a fatal stab wound and are slammed against a wall or the floor before that. No money or valuable items are ever taken from the scene.
While it’s not sure what their motives are Tsukauchi assumes that the murders are made out of some sort of ideal, the murderer most likely believing that what they are doing is for a greater good. Another option would be that the murders are just made by some mentally ill person who likes killing people for fun.
“That does sound like it could be connected to the other murder cases I’m working on. I’ll look into it to make sure. What about the other one?”
“That vigilante you are after captured a few villains who were trying to rob a shop and was able to escape the scene before Eraserhead could capture them. The public has given them the name “Akumu”. They seem to be gaining popularity after that child rescue last week.”
“Akumu? Doesn’t that mean nightmare? Not a really charming name for someone gaining popularity and attention from the public.”
“The reason behind the name seems to be the way they use their quirk, scaring the ones they’re trying to capture, causing them to stay still in fear and then just suddenly disappear, like they were never there.”
That vigilante has been giving Naomase a hard time lately, while they did help capture villains, they are still doing so without an official license, well at least it seems they’re getting more information on them.
“Thanks officer, anything else?”
“No, I that should be all. Good luck detective!”
Naomasa just nods and with that the officer leaves to, what’s probably his office table and Naomasa does the same, entering his office and putting the new files on his office table before sinking into his chair.
“Alright, lets try and get to it.”
Hours later in another part of the city
Shota still couldn’t believe it, that vigilante escaped from him. Again.
Well at least his patrol was over now and he won’t have to deal with anything else ‘til school starts in…
“*sigh* Only three more hours?” he thinks out loud, another exhausted sigh leaving the underground hero.
The black haired hero is about to take off his yellow goggles to officially end his shift when he sees movement somewhere in the alleyway he was about to pass by.
Shota stops and turns his attention to the figure moving out of the backdoor of a building. This wouldn’t be something too alerting, if the person wasn’t wearing all black, a mask and wasn’t holding what seemed to be a knife. Erasure activated instantly and he directed the capture weapon towards the suspicious person. However that exact person must have noticed him, because they turned towards Shota and narrowly dodged the scarf aimed at them and turned running in the opposite direction of the hero and turning into the next ally.
Shota chased after them but as he turned the corner they had, the other person was gone already and nowhere to be found.
“Shit”
Deciding that just standing around wouldn’t be of much help he returns to the door where he first saw the person and noticed some drops of a dark liquid on the floor. Blood.
The hero opened the door to what seems to be an apartment complex. Upon entering the lights turned on automatically and revealed more drops on the stairwell and floor inside as well.
“I won’t get to actually have a nap before going to teach the brats, will I?”
His worries were confirmed minutes later after entering the apartment the blood seemed to lead to and saw something that would probably be another potential nightmare on top of all the others he had collected throughout his years as a pro hero.
Another murder. Another victim. Another nightmare.
