Six Days

Summary:

Mycroft and Greg...a happy ending.

Work Text:

It had been six days.

Six days since the world fell to its knees.

Six days since his blood was splattered on the cement.

Six days since that final phone call.

Six days since we lost the good fight.

Six days since we lost him.

Six days it has taken me to realize.

Five hundred yards to his office.

Five different times I’ve thought of how this would turn out.

Five minutes of his time was all I needed.

Five doors to walk through to get to you.

Five floors to ride to decide if this was the right thing to do.

Four times I’ve doubted myself since walking off the elevator.

Four times I’ve caught my reflection and wished I had changed before coming here.

Four times my head has begged me to turn around.

Four times my heart has pushed me onward.

Three knocks on your door before you allowed my entry.

Three files your assistant has taken out with her.

Three steps towards you and my confidence begins to fade.

Two more steps towards you and I grow bolder.

Two seconds of your smile calms my uneasiness.

One swift move and my lips touch your lips.

Two moments later and you push me away.

Two minutes later my declaration of love for you escapes my lips.

Three weeks later, your declaration of love for me escapes yours.

Three months later you hold my hand as I lock my flat for the last time.

Three years later and he’s back and life feels normal again.

Four seconds and our life is shattered.

Four minutes until the ambulance arrives.

Four hours on the operating table and you’re alive still fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting.

Four weeks later and you’re back in our bed, a scar on your abdomen the only proof of how close our fairy tale was to ending.

Five minutes and you’re finally mine forever.

Five people standing on the alter waiting for me to reach you.

Five roses in the bouquet Anthea holds next to you.

Five moments and our hands are clasped together, your smile brighter than the spring day surrounding us.

Five seconds I kiss you and then lean in to tell you not to be greedy, you’ve got me for the rest of your life.

It had been six days.

Six days since my world was complete.

Six days since the blood coursed through my veins as I finally had you, my husband.

Six days since the last time we spoke to anyone other than each other.

Six days of paradise with the man of my dreams.

Six days since I lost the part of me that felt I would never be happy again.

Six days it has taken me to realize you were the missing piece all along.
