“Minho, I’m sorry.”
“Kibum-ah, what for?”
“I don’t save up to buy a house or car for you. Honestly, I don’t know what to give you. I don’t deserve to get all these gifts from you. You saved up money just to buy me a birthday present. Meanwhile, I’ve never really given you anything expensive,” Kibum muttered, “I’m sorry I couldn’t give you back all this stuff. Maybe if you give me more time, then I can give you ho—“
“I don’t need them,” Minho confessed, “I don’t need all those things. I was just joking when I said that. Please don’t take it seriously. You don’t need to give me anything extravagant. I accept anything that you gave me. The thought is more important than the gift.”
“Minho, I’ve been your boyfriend for God knows how many years. I just want to give you something.”
“Kibum... you don—“
“Let me finish this, Ming. I swear, I saved up for quite some time now and I'm proud of myself that I bought it,” Kibum said. He took out a blue velvet box from his pocket and opened them. There was a simple, but yet beautiful ring inside the box.
Minho was shocked. “Wha—“
“I know you don’t really like shiny things so I bought simple couple rings for both of us. Engraved with our anniversary and initials. I know it’s kinda cheesy but I think you’ll like them!” Kibum chuckled.
“I LOVE THEM!” Minho said enthusiastically, “Kibum, this is more than what I wanted. I don’t really want anything. This is perfect. I don’t know what to say.”
“Say 'thank you Kibummie and I love you',” Kibum teased as he put the ring on his boyfriend’s finger.
“You sneaky,” Minho muttered as he went closer to kiss Kibum’s forehead, “Thank you, Kibummie and I love you.”
Kibum only nodded and smiled.
“Hey, aren’t you going to say ‘I love you too’?”
“Maybe next time when I feel like it,” Kibum winked.
Minho shook his head and put his arms around Kibum’s waist as he returned a lot of kisses to show his affections.
“Minho, what do you want for your birthday?”
Minho couldn’t forget whenever Kibum asked the same question every year. He simply couldn’t answer them. Every single time Kibum asked the question, he would only say ‘anything is fine'.
Kibum wouldn’t know but Minho was screaming inside. He perhaps knew that it wasn’t appropriate for him to tell what he wanted. If he had to be selfish, he would tell Kibum the same answer on his mind each year.
I don’t want anything but you. I just wish that I could protect you and make you happy.
