There are lovers there are friends (and its hard to tell where one begins and the other ends.)

Summary:

All of the Superfriends were PAINFULLY aware that Kara and Lena harbored secret feelings for each other but no one said anything. One night when it was Kara, Kelly and Alex were going to be staying at Lena's, Kelly and Alex decided that enough was enough and came up with a plan to get these two idiots to admit their feelings.

This Fic was inspired by the amazing artwork of EasterKingston! It has been a pleasure to bring their piece of art to life!

The title for the fic comes from "Lovers & Friends" By Audy Kimura.

The Art that Inspired this Fic Can Be Found HERE!!!

Game nights were brutal. The Super Friends all got together once a week barring any emergencies or other obligations to bond over booze and board games. Everyone got along fine, any arguments consisted of playful accusations of cheating or drinking the last beer – or in Kara’s case eating the last pot sticker. For all intents and purposes, game nights were nothing but fun. What made them brutal was the fact that Kara was ALWAYS letting Lena win. Always. Not only that but the two of them were constantly flirting with each other, even making rather dirty jokes at each other’s expense.

J’onn was off world visiting M’gann and Brainy had taken Nia to Parthas in an attempt to reconnect with her sister, meaning that the only people at game night would be Kelly, Alex, Lena, and Kara. Lena had texted them to tell them that she was forced to work later than normal, so they’d decided to make it an impromptu slumber party choosing to have it at Lena’s since it was the closest to LCorp. She’d long ago given Alex a key in case of an emergency – and by emergency, she meant so she’d stop kicking down her door every time she thought Lena was in danger – so she’d given them the go ahead to get started without her.

Alex and Kelly arrived first since they’d both had the day off. While they set things up, they decided to come up with a plan to FINALLY get these two to admit their feelings once and for all.

“We have GOT to find a way to get those two idiots to admit how they feel about each other!” Alex said as she poured the chips into a giant bowl. Kelly was beside setting up the stuff they’d need to make their drinks later this evening.

“I know, Alex. I’ve seen a lot of things and been in a lot of uncomfortable situations but watching them undress each other with their eyes every time they are together is too much!”

“So what do we do, do we go full on intervention? Lock them in a room together until they figure it out on their own – scratch that, I do NOT want to picture the two of them ‘figuring it out’ alone in a bedroom. Gross.”

“As fun as it would be to see you squirm, dear, I think we need to be more subtle. I think I have an idea but I’m going to need your help!”

“Anything!”

The two got to work setting up the rest of the food, and then moved to the couch to plot their attack. Most game nights consisted of Monopoly or Pictionary or some other board game. Tonight however, the four women had decided to play poker instead. It was much more fun without Brainy counting cards or J’onn reading minds. With it being just the 4 of them, it would be much more fun.

Seeing as how Kara always let Lena win – either by flat out cheating or by folding even if she had the winning hand – Kelly had suggested they play as a team.  Kelly and Alex got out the chips and the card deck and set everything up on the coffee table by the fireplace.

“So how are we going to do this? What’s your master plan?”

Before Kelly could answer her, Kara landed on the balcony with Lena.

“Just follow my lead,” Kelly whispered to Alex. “Kara! Lena! Y’all are earlier than we thought you’d be!”

Kara sat Lena beside her and they walked in. “I convinced her to leave early.”

Lena walked in ahead of Kara who quickly changed out of her super suit leaving her glasses off.

“You shut my computer, picked me up, and flew out with me!” Lena’s tone was edging on irritated but still playful.

“Hey, I saved what you were working on first! I’m not a total monster! Besides, I don’t always have to use my mouth to convince you to do what I want!” Kara nudged Lena with a wink.

There they go again. Kelly and Alex shared a mutual eye roll. As much as Alex didn’t want to think of her sister “convincing” Lena to do anything, she was secretly hoping that by the end of the night, she and Kelly would be thankful for Lena’s soundproof walls.

“Ok, down girls. Let’s have a drink and play some poker, shall we? Alex and I figured we’d play in pairs tonight since you two always cheat anyway.”

Lena and Kara looked at each other and feigned shock.

“Us? Cheat? Never!!” Said Kara, holding her hand to her chest.

“Whatever, you say. Kara, whatever you say.” Alex took a seat on the couch next to Kelly.

“Alex, you deal. Kara, glasses ON! No X-Ray vision for you tonight!”

Kara groaned as she and Lena took a seat by the make-shift poker table in the floor. Alex delt the cards out for a game of Texas Hold’Em. Playing in pairs doesn’t really change much, aside from the number of cards they have to choose from. Each player still gets 2 cards and there are still the 5 cards on the table, but each team can only play ONE hand.

Usually the first few rounds are “serious” meaning fake mean stares and hateful digs at each other made in the name of the game. Tonight was no different. After 3 hands – all of which had been won by “SuperCorp” – the team name Kara had given to her and Lena, choosing to call Alex and Kelly “Agent Brain Drain” playing on Alex’s DEO job and Kelly’s psychologist job. Leave it to Kara to be so corny. 3 hands in meant that they’d each had a few glasses of wine and were needing to get something in their stomach. They’d been munching on the chips and all but they were bordering on drunk and needed something of substance to absorb some of the alcohol.

It was as if the universe had read their minds when the doorbell rang and their dinner had arrived, 4 Pizza and 4 dozen Pot stickers as usual. 3 pizzas for Kara and 3 dozen pot stickers, 1 pizza and 1 dozen pot stickers for the other 3. Kelly tipped the delivery guy and brought the food back to where they’d been sitting. Alex and Kara put away the cards while Lena made them all a mug of tea.

Normally at this point in the night, they’d all fight over a what movie to watch ultimately ending on either a musical or an action movie depending on which Danvers sister won the argument that particular night. Tonight however, Kelly had a plan.

“You know, it seems like everyone in our group of friends is dating but the two of you,” Kelly said motioning to Lena and Kara. Alex laughed, giving Kelly a knowing look.

“Maybe we should try to find them dates! I think William is single!”

“He is! And I’m pretty sure every time he is in the same room as you, his eyes are glued to your…assets”

Lena choked on her tea, almost spitting it across the table. Alex didn’t fare much better at the thought of the “Assets” Kelly was referring to. She didn’t want to think of any of Kara’s…assets.

“Ugh!” Kara groaned as she rolled her eyes. “I wish he would move back to England or Great Britain or wherever he’s from and leave me alone! If he brings me one more Tupperware dish full of food, I swear I’m going to hurl him into the sun!”

“Fair enough. William is out.” Alex thought for a minute. “What about James? The two of you came close to getting together before, but you never really got a chance to see it through! You’re more settled in as Supergirl now! Maybe you could try again!”

“No, not James. Not for Alex anyway.” Kelly said, looking at Lena. “He’s still not quite over a certain Green-Eyed CEO. I’m sure if I asked, he’d come back and visit for a day or two, Lena! You two were good together! And with all the technology at our fingertips I’m sure you could make the distance thing work! Who knows maybe you could move to Calvin Town with him! You could set up an office there and do all your work remotely!”

There was the sound of wood cracking, and all eyes were on Kara.

“LENA IS NOT MOVING TO CALVINTOWN!” Kara was raising her voice so much that Kelly and Alex almost abandoned their plan.
“I mean, she can’t leave LCorp right now. Sam is too busy with Ruby to take over right now.”

Everyone sipped their tea quietly. The tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Kara stood to her feet and excused herself, saying that she needed to get something out of her bag in Lena’s room.

“I’m just gonna…” Alex motioned towards the room where Kara was, getting up and following behind her. Kelly and Lena nodded knowingly as they continued to sip their tea.

“Scotch?” Lena blurted out.

“Yes, please.”

In the next room, Kara was leaned up against the wall by the door when Alex walked in – without knocking. Rude. She shut the door behind her and then stood back a bit from Kara, leaning up against the end of Lena’s bed. She crossed her arms and looked at Kara but didn’t say a word.

“Alex…” Kara was burying her face in her hands. “I don’t want Lena to move to Calvin town! I just got her back!”

Alex took a few steps forward, putting her hands on Kara’s pulling them from her face.

“Kara, she hasn’t even accepted a date much less an offer to move to another city! Take a breath!”

“I know Alex, but what if Kelly is right? What if James comes back and they get close again and he convinces her to go with him? I know I have no right to tell her what to do and I can’t control her choices. I know she’s her own person, Alex but…But Alex she’s MY person!”

Kara was still leaning against the wall, for all her abilities and strength, the thought of losing Lena again made her feel weaker than she’d ever felt during a solar flare. Alex attempted to pull her into a hug, but Kara just pushed her away.

“Alex, I think…I think I’m in love with Lena! I think I always have been. But there’s no way she feels the same. Alex what am I going to do?”

“Kara, look at me.” Kara looks up at the ceiling avoiding her gaze. “Hey,” Alex put her hands on Kara’s face and brings it closer to her own. “Look at me.” Reluctantly, Kara allows her teary eyes to meet Alex’s stare. “You don’t have to do anything about it tonight, Kara. Ok? Kelly and I will lay off the dating talk for the night and we’ll just all watch a movie or something like we usually do. Your choice.”

Kara allows herself to be pulled into a hug, staying safe in her sisters warm embrace for as long as possible. Alex, being who she is, speaks first.

“Just no musicals.”

Kara pushes her away, feigning offense.

“How dare you? Tonight is a PERFECT night for ‘Singing in the Rain’” Kara says, pointing outside where it’s pouring down rain.

“Fine. But no singing!”

“No promises!”

The two sisters playfully shove each other as they leave the room and head back to where Kelly and Lena are sitting silently, looking more awkward then when they left. Lena is focusing intently on her scotch glass and refuses to look at either of them. Alex looks to Kelly for some sort of silent explanation but receives none. After a few more moments of uncomfortable silence, Lena clears her throat before she speaks.

“Did I ever tell you that this penthouse is equipped with an intercom system linking all of the rooms? It’s meant to keep tenants from shouting between rooms and disturbing the other residents. There are small buttons by the door in each of the rooms, and the speakers are hidden in the ceilings.”

Lena points above her head, drawing their attention to a soft ball size speaker that sits perfectly flush with the ceiling. If you didn’t know it was there, you’d never notice it. Lena continued to avoid eye contact with anyone and instead stared at the glass of scotch in her hand.

Kara couldn’t breathe. It didn’t take a genius to understand what Lena was implying. She’d heard everything. She knew that Kara was in love with her. It took every ounce of herself control not to superspeed to the balcony and hurl HERSELF into the sun.  No one spoke. No one knew what to say.  After a few minutes, Kelly spoke up saying that she was tired, and suggested that she and Alex turn for the night, taking her by the hand and down the hall to the guest room Lena had set up for them.

Just like that Kara was alone with the woman she had ACCIDENTALLY confessed to loving. The silence in the room was deafening.

“Kara, come sit with me please.”

“Lena, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for you to find out like this, I know you don’t…”

“Kara, please. Just come sit down.”

“I don’t want anything to change with us. I know you don’t care for me the same way, but I don’t want to lose you as a friend! Not when I just got you back.”

“KARA! Shut up and come sit down!”

This time Kara did as she was told and came to Lena’s side, being sure to leave a bit of space between the two of them.

“Kara, look at me.”

Kara turned towards Lena but kept her eyes closed fighting back the tears.

“I know YOU have X-Ray Vision, darling, but I don’t. I’m going to need you to let me see those gorgeous blue eyes of yours.”

She took a deep breath and opened her eyes, wiping the tears away with her hands. She didn’t know what she’d expected, but she didn’t expect Lena to be looking at her so kindly. So SOFT. The only thing that made sense was that she was pitying her, that she was trying to find a way to let her down easily and give her the “we’re better off as friends” or “You’re like a sister to me” speech.

“Lena, I’m…” Kara’s breath hitched at the feeling of Lena’s warm hand on her cheek. “Please, just forget what you heard. I don’t want anything to…”

“Kara."

She stopped talking. She knew Lena well enough to know the look/tone that she got when she had something to say and that she was NOT to be interrupted.

“Kiss me.”

Kara must have heard wrong. Did she just say…? No. There’s no way.

“Lena?”

“You heard me. Kiss me.”

“Lena, you don’t have to do this. Please just…”

Normally the parts of RomCom movies where the guy silences the woman’s rant with a kiss really irritate her. But in this moment, Lena’s warm lips on her own was the best way she’s ever been told to “Shut up.”

Kara didn’t dare move; she was too afraid she’d mess something up.  But in her effort to not move, she’d also stopped breathing. Lena pulled away from her moments later.

“Breathe Kara. I’ll not have you passing out on me.”

Kara sat there in shock for a second keeping her eyes fixed on the emerald green eyes in front of her. Once she was able to regain brain function, she put her hands on either side of Lena’s face and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. It was like the kisses you see in the final scene of a cheesy RomCom, only SO Much better! When they finally pulled apart several minutes later, they were both breathless.

“If I had known you were such a good kisser, I would have made it a point to butt dial you and confess my love for you much sooner!”

“Only you could compare a High-Tec Multi-Room Intercom System to a butt dial. You’re such a dork.”

“Yes, but I’m YOUR dork.”

“Yes, you most definitely are.”

Lena laughed pulling their lips together, but quickly pushed them apart again.

“oh, just in case it wasn’t clear darling, I most definitely DO feel the EXACT Same way!”

Kara’s face lit up with a smile so bright that she could light the night sky.

“and what, pray tell, do you mean by that, Miss Luthor?”

Lena grabbed hold of the collar of Kara’s shirt.

“I think you already know, Miss Danvers. Now kiss me you silly Kryptonian.”

“Yes Ma’am,” Kara teased bringing their lips together yet again, with no intention of stopping any time soon!
