Work Text:
They slowly approached the Impala, all three of them covered in blood. Most of the blood came from the bruises on their bodies , but the rest was probably from the vampires they just slaughtered.A few days ago they got a call from Minnesota, that some girls were missing, so they headed to town to figure it out who or what is responsible for it.Well it turned out it was just a routine case, involving a bunch of vampires. They thought that would be quick work, maybe a bit messy but nothing serious.Well...they were wrong. The nest was bigger than they had expected, so they were quiet outnumbered. They barely made it out alive, so all of them got some pretty ugly bruises. Cas got beaten up pretty bad. He's not used to getting injuries that he can't heal with just one motion.
They stood a bit in front of the car, not looking at each other, panting heavily. When the silent has grown, suddenly Dean snapped.
"The hell were you thinking, Cas?!" Dean shouted.
"I just wanted to help!I'm not a child that you have to protect at all cost" said Cas with anger in his eyes.He closed his eyes for a minute, because the bruises on his side started to hurt.
"Yeah... look how that turned out for you" said Dean, pointing with his finger up and down at Cas."Congratulation Cas , you won the prize for being the World's Dumbest Idiot on Earth. But yeah, you just tried to help...you're not an angel anymore. I'm pretty sure you already noticed."
Cas was still just staring at him,his eyes turned a bit red and swollen.
"You can't just throw yourself in front of a bunch of blood suckers, just to save my skin. You are not a hunter..."
And with that being said, Cas stormed inside the Impala, and shut the door as hard as he could. Sam looked at Dean with an 'I can't believe you said that' face, and got inside the car as well.Dean pinched his nose bridge and closed his eyes for a second. "That's just great" he said to himself, and got into the driver seat with an annoyed face.
The driving back to the bunker was painfully silent.None of them said a word, and even the radio was turned down. When they pulled into the garage, Cas stormed away as soon as the engine stopped.Dean stared after him for a minute, and with an annoyed shrug he got ut of the car as well.
"You have to apologize to him,Dean."
"Yeah, I know. I fucked it up again, right?" he says with a painful smile.
"I'm sorry, but yes...you did." He patted Dean shoulder,as a good luck wish, and left him alone in the garage.Dean shortly got himself together, and headed to the direction of the library. When he arrived, nobody was there. They probably went inside their room already.Dean started to worry, beacuse the bruises on Cas' face and side seemed pretty bad, and he probably doesn't even know how to take care of them. And with that thought he heahded to Cas' room.He stood in front of the door for a second, and with a sigh, he knocked on the door.Nobody answered. He tried again, a bit more frustrated now.Again...nothing.He opened the door gently, and peaked through the little opening.Cas was laying on his bed, still in his bloody shirt and pants.Dean slowly approached him, and poked his back.He looked up, but with that motion he turned back to face the wall again.
"Cas, please don't do this. We have to take care of your injuries, or they get infected.Believe me, you don't want this." he said with a smile. But it faded away in seconds as he realized Cas doesn't want to even look at him.
"Look, Cas, I'm sorry I acted the way I did back in Minnesota. But it was a dumb idea to fight with the vamps, you should have stayed in the bunker."
Suddenly Cas sat up and before standing up he stared furiously at Dean. The look on his face was quite terrifying actually. He was full of anger, and his eyes stared to swollen up again. Was he about to cry?Dean wondered.Cas got up from the bed and headed towards the door. When Dean came back to reality , he quickly grabbed Cas' wrist with more force than he intented to.Cas looked back at him with now teary eyes.
"What do you want from me, Dean?" he snapped.
"What?"
"Why do you want me to stay, when I don't even have my powers? You said I'm not near being a hunter. Then why do you keep me around?I'm no use to you and Sam anymore."
Dean just stared at him with wide eyes.He doesn't know what to say to this.Should he tell the angel that he doesn't care about his lost powers, and just wants him to stay here...with him?No, because then Cas would ask why and Dean couldn't tell him the truth. The truth that even he can't explain. This feeling he always has whenever Cas is besides him. Those little looks and those secret touches they share, hoping the other haven't noticed, and tried to keep it cool.Dean hated himself whenever he hurt Cas with his words. He doesn't deserve this, he deserves someone better than him.Who treats him right.
"Yeah, that's what I thought..."said Cas with anger in his tone.Dean snapped back to reality, and realized he had been just staring at the floor while holding Cas wrist still. He looked up, and a pair of beautiful blue eyes stared back at him.Dean adored those ocean blue eyes, even when they were full of hate and anger. But now was not the time to get lost in them, so he cleared his throat and spoke up.
"Cas, you don't have to forgive me. You don't even have to talk to me anymore ,if that's what you want, but please let me take care of your bruises"
"Okay"said Cas with annoyence in his voice.
Dean slowly let go of Cas' wrist, and with that, Cas sat down on the left side of his bed.Dean headed to the bathroom to get the medical supplies. Some bandages, antiseptic and a needle to stich Cas' bigger wounds up.When he got back to the room,Cas was already half naked.Dean blushed a bit, but he stopped when he saw the big bloody bite mark on the left side of his abdomen. He crouched in front of Cas and examined his wounds. Some of them needed stiches, so he warned Cas that might hurt a little.
"Look, Cas, I'm not gonna lie, you're in a pretty bad shape"
"Thanks for the compliment"he said with a small smile.
Dean returned the smile. He was kinda relieved that at least Cas calmed a bit down, and doesn't want to kill him anymore.
"That's going to hurt like a bitch.Sorry Cas, in advance."And with a gentle motion he poured the antiseptic into the wound.Cas closed his eyes tightly, and tried to hold himself back from waking Sam up with his loud cry.Dean felt sorry for him.He was an angel, a warrior of heaven, and now suffers as a human on Earth. He can't imagine the pain Cas went through. Not just physically, but emotionally too.
"Are you okay,buddy?"
"Uhumm" said Cas like he was on the verge of crying.
"I'm sorry Cas.I shouldn't have talked to you like that.It is my job to train you to be a good hunter. All of it is new to you,and I was an asshole as always.I was angry at you because you risked your life again, just to save my ungrateful ass.You could've died Cas...and I...I couldn't... I couldn't bear the thought of loosing you..." Dean is now also on the verge of crying. He looked down on his lap, and tried to collect himself.
Cas was looking at him with pity in his eyes. His mouth parted a little, like he wanted to say something, but he slowly closed it.Instead he carefully reached out, and put his hand under the hunter's chin and lifted it up till he found his eyes.
"Dean, I know you want to protect everyone around you, but then who will protect you?" he said with a gentle smile.
Dean wanted to say something but instead he just leaned in.The kiss lasted for only a few seconds, but he suddenly regretted every decision he made in his life so far. He started to back away, but Cas pulled him back by his collar and kissed him hard. Dean gasped, and after the sudden shock he kissed Cas back desperately. They slowed down, and moved in sync, and just enjoyed every second of it.When they finally parted, they were gasping for air. Cas smiled at him and put his hand on the hunter's shoulder.
"I suppose we should finish those stiches before they get infected"
"Yeah... ahm.. yeah, sure" said Dean with a growing smile on his face.
Dean took care of the rest of Cas' bruises, and put the medical supplies back to the box, he brought from the bathroom. He looked at Cas who seemed really tired by now.
"I think you should rest,Cas. It was a long day."
"Yes ,it was."
They sat in silence for a minute, then Dean emerged from the bed, but Cas got a hold on his wrist.
"Can you...wait till I fall asleep? I'm not used to sleeping, and I often have nightmares, and I need someone to wake me up, if I'm having one." he said with puppy eyes.He probably learnt it from Sam.
"Ahm... Yeah, sure.If that makes you happy."said Dean with an awkward smile.Deep down he's glad that Cas wanted him to stay.
He kicked off his shoes, and crawled under the cover next to Cas.He didn't know what to do at first so he just stared at the ceiling. He looked to his side.Cas already has fallen asleep. He couldn't hold himself back anymore, and went closer to cas , until he was just inches away from his back.He gently hooked his arm around his waist, careful not to wake him up, and buried his face in Cas'neck.
"Good night, angel" he whispered.
That night neither of them had to wake the other up because of a nightmare.
