Chapter Text
The day she moved out of Blight manor was one of the best days of Amity’s life, living in a house just outside her college campus with Willow and Gus, far away from her parents' influence, and free from suffocating under the thumb of House Blight’s matriarch, like she had been for the 19 years of her life. The next best day was the day she met a rather curious girl with brown eyes and pointed ears on campus by accident.
Amity jogged down the street, she had never slept in so late before, and was now trying to get to her class as soon as possible, she’d left so quickly that the only breakfast she was able to "make" was a packet of s'more flavored Pop-Tarts. Too focused on trying to rush to her class and avoid being marked tardy that she failed to notice the uneven portion of the sidewalk until she tripped on it. Before she could hit the ground however, a pair of rather strong hands grabbed around her mid-fall.
"Whoa! Watch out there!" the stranger uttered
Amity let out a breath of relief, a fraction of a second later, and not only would all her books have flown everywhere, but she might have ended up with a bloody nose. She turned to catch a glimpse of her savior, a girl who looked maybe a little older than herself. She wore a red beanie that looked like it had been through some rough times, over her lanky frame she wore a green jacket over a white and blue striped tee, and ripped jeans. But what caught her eye the most was the fact that this girl had...fangs? No that had to be wrong...there’s no way she just got saved by a cosplayer.
“That could've ended badly” Amity said “thanks”
“No problem” said the stranger, turning to leave
“Wait! Before you go, can I get your name? I want to at least know who helped me so I can thank you properly”
“It’s Luz, Luz Noceda” the other girl said with a smile “and who might the maiden I so bravely saved be named?”
Amity giggled, so her savior had a sense of humor “it’s Amity, Amity Blight” she offered a smile
“Well, Amity, I appreciate the offer, but you really don’t have to” Luz said
“But I-” Amity was interrupted when her phone vibrated and she realized what time it was
“Oh damn! I gotta get to class!” Amity exclaimed “see you around, Luz!”
And with those parting words, Amity raced to beat the clock and get to class on time, while making sure to be careful of any tripping hazards along the way
Later that afternoon, Amity entered the English hall for her class and sat in her usual spot in almost mechanical fashion like it had been every class prior. She caught a familiar shade of green in her peripheral and was surprised to see Luz sitting in class like any other student. She honestly hadn’t expected to see the girl again that day after their meeting earlier in the morning. Looking her over, Amity wondered why she hadn’t seen Luz around campus before today, seeing how she fit in so easily, though the fact that she lacked any supplies was odd.
“ Maybe she just enrolled recently? ” Amity wondered, but put it aside for now, she’d ask later...maybe
Most of the way through the class, Amity kept glancing back at Luz, who seemed to be half paying attention, half nearly falling asleep, making Amity quietly snort out a laugh. At least she wasn’t the only one who was a bit tired, which prompted her to think up buying Luz a coffee as her thanks for helping her earlier.
When the professor stepped out to take care of a surprise errand, many of the students decided to bail and wander campus, of course, Amity stayed put, as did Luz apparently, supposedly looking over everything on the whiteboards from her seat. Soon it became entirely obvious that she was just staring ahead, not looking at anything in particular, upon closer inspection, Amity found Luz was asleep, with her eyes open.
Then she noticed her ears were pointed and that the supposed cosplay fangs were very much real.
Luz was a vampire
