Work Text:
annabeth and percy hadn’t had a chill night in, in a while.
they were annabeth’s favourite nights, and percy’s too.
those nights were it was annabeth sitting on the barstool at the island working on something, and percy with his legs stretched out on the couch with a blanket playing a game on his phone or nintendo switch.
or sometimes it was annabeth in percy’s position re doing her pinterest boards, and percy watching a show on the tv sitting on the floor like a kid, not turning it up too loud to disturb annabeth.
but this night it was different because they were being quiet together. in the same spot. touching. loving each other without words or intimacy.
annabeth had come home from spending a day with piper. they shopped, talked and ate. at this point, annabeth was eager to run home to her and percy’s comfortable apartment and into percy’s comfortable arms.
she waved a short hi to percy, and ran to the bathroom to wash the exhausting day off her. annabeth changed into a robe after and put her hair in two french braids, then completed her extensive skin care routine.
she moisturized her entire body and put on her favourite long sleeve and pants, plaid pajama set.
“i missed you today.” she said running out of the bedroom to percy.
he was sitting on the couch reading a book annabeth had recently gifted him. “i missed you too.”
annabeth sat beside him and turned to him. “you sound like you didn’t.” she teased.
he shut the book and set it on the coffee table, turning to annabeth. “you didn’t give me a kiss when you came in. or even say hi.” he pouted.
annabeth laughed and got off the couch and sat on her knees on the ground looking up at him.
“what- what are you doing?” percy said, holding in and obvious laugh.
“apologizing.” annabeth smiled.
percy ran a hand through his black hair and relaxed. “you’re attentive today. go ahead.”
“please accept this apology i’m offering you. its sincere. i’m truly sorry for not kissing you or saying hello when i came in tonight, as i hadn’t seen you all day.” annabeth jokingly stuck out her bottom lip to form a pout and puppy dog eyes. “i’ll never do it again.”
percy stared at her in disbelief then burst out laughing. “hey. get up, you’re being weird! And I only accept apologies in cash.”
annabeth laughed and sat back down crossed legged on the couch reaching for a blanket.
“want a snack?” percy said getting up. “i’m going to change and get something.”
“sure. and tea?” annabeth grinned.
“of course.”
percy changed into a similar pajama set annabeth had on and put on his reading glasses. he went to the kitchen and cut up strawberries and made chamomile tea, with milk and honey, for the both of them.
he set the bowl of cut up strawberries on the coffee table and two forks then ran back to the kitchen to get the tea.
annabeth watched all of it.
it was surreal to her how he did this the first time she went to his place when they started dating.
he ran around his house tidying up, then making annabeth snacks quickly to make sure she stayed comfortable.
and now they were in their mid twenties living together, and he was still running around for her as if she would get bored.
when he sat down, annabeth stretched out her legs and threw the other end of the blanket to him. “stretch your legs.” she patted the spot beside her.
they got comfortable and settled in, percy wanting to only hear her voice right now.
“how was your day? tell me all about it.” he said reaching for his fork.
it was dark in their apartment, not just because of the black minimalistic theme of their apartment, but because it was lit by the warm distant light of the kitchen and the night city lights they could see from their oversized windows.
annabeth told percy about her day with piper and how they went on a girls date like they always did.
“did you gossip about me and jason?” percy whispered.
“of course! i won’t tell you what about though.” annabeth whispered back giggling.
percy scoffed and sipped his tea. “tell me about your day.” annabeth asked.
“i sat around missing you.”
“percy.” annabeth said flatly.
“fine fine! seriously though i didn’t do much. i went grocery shopping like you asked. i cleaned, did laundry, cooked, made calls, took a nap. normal saturday.” he shrugged.
“sounds relaxing to me. i’ll spend the whole day with you tomorrow.”
percy smiled. “i’m ecstatic.”
they didn’t talk much after that, just merely enjoyed eachothers presence. percy read his book and annabeth watched him do so.
they sat like that until the tea was finished and the forks were in the empty bowl of strawberries.
until the city quieted down a bit and the kitchen light blinked out because it had been so long.
they fell asleep like that, legs stretched on the same couch, but opposite sides. sitting up so their necks would definitely hurt in the morning but they didn’t care.
because when they awoke they were together, with the calm memories of breaking their cookie cutter night routine because of the busyness of work. finally being together in a different setting and ready to start another day where they only make time for each other.
