It’s raining bug boy

Summary:

Zim underestimates earthen weather, luckily, he’s fortunate enough to get home without burning his skin off.

Notes:

Hello there! I have a miraculous au consisting of Zim being ladybug and Gaz being Chat noir, it’s not really a whole lot canon to the show, but I thought it would be cool to try and see how the iconic umbrella scene would play out. This is also not really canon in my au, and it may seem a little bit (a lot) out of character, it’s just an impulse thing I wanted to write. Maybe once day I’ll write an actual fic with the actual story I have planned. I also have more information about my au on my Instagram @nessaa.mp4 if you would like to check it out. Yes I wrote this at 1:37 am, I’m tired. This probably won’t make much sense. I don’t mind- I wanna write- hope it’s decent enough though- anyWAys leTs go-

Work Text:

Zim should have known better then to trust that stupid earthen woman on the television. It was suppose to be a terribly sunny day today, and now Zim stood at the steps of the highschool entrance, just below the pathetic roof above him that shielded him from the awful water.

Normally, Zim would not pay much mind to it. He’d often cover himself in paste and call it a day, or even bring a raincoat with him, which he’d actually gotten recently, he was getting more comfortable wearing earthen clothing, although he would never admit it.

But now he was basically left defenseless, standing there as he watched most of the students leaving and passing with no problem whatsoever, having their own umbrellas to offer protection. What was even more infuriating was the fact that they had thrown everything from the lost and found out, so there went zims only chance of possibly finding some poor umbrella or coat someone prematurely forgot to take with them.

Zim could of course just endure the water and walk home, there really wouldn’t be much of a problem besides the terrible burning he’d receive, which he..was already dealing with quite a lot..so that option seemed twice as hard to choose.

Instead Zim just stood there, arms crossed, looking down awkwardly at his feet as he thought of either a solution to get to his base safely or muster up the courage to walk home completely defenseless against the rain.

“Scared of a little rain Zim?” Zim immediately shot up, recognizing the voice of Dib, and turning to see him, umbrella in hand as he walked past him and down the steps of the school.

“Nonsense, as if I’d be afraid of some useless water.” Zim said with a slightly tug of annoyance to his voice. He wasn’t exactly feeling the energy to deal with Dib and his antics, even though it was usually ZiM with the nonstop banter.

“Right..” dib said as he turned to head out of the school gates, he knew it would definitely be amusing seeing the alien attempt to run down the sidewalk while trying to get as little water on him as possible, “well, guess I’ll see you then!” Dib said waving his hand enthusiastically. Dib had messed with him a lot that day, and it was actually a little deflating for Zim.

So Zim just rolled his eyes, and tried walking down the steps, before immediately walking back up as soon as he felt the water hitting his skin. He wiped away at the water and looked back down to the ground, this was definitely going to take a while..maybe calling gir and asking him to run all the way to the school with zims bright yellow coat would have helped.

“Do you and that boy always fight each other?” Zim perked up to the chirpy voice that spoke to him, it was Tikki, the strange little alien like creature that seemed to live in that little necklace that strange crazy woman had gave to him.

“Uh..” Zim looked around, there wasn’t really anyone there, “the dib..we are very much sworn enemies, though..I suppose things have lightened up over the years.” He said tapping his foot a little impatiently.

Zim expected some response from the kwami, but instead got silence as he heard the doors behind him opening once more. He bothered to turn, seeing Gaz, holding her closed umbrella in one hand, stopping to look at Zim for a slight moment but continuing her walk.

Zim immediately looked away, feeling almost a little embarrassed because the dib sister was present when dib and him were arguing and Zim ended up with a tray of food in his face. He really didn’t want to remember that right now.

Gaz opened her umbrella, stepping down the steps without much of a word, before stopping.

“I know you and dib have this..dumb enemy to friends thing going on.” Gaz said, not bothering to turn around, just standing there, Zim could hear the rain as it fell off her umbrella, “he was acting kinda more jerky today because of our dad.”

“Oh..I..see?” Zim said a little confused. Gaz turned a little, looking up at Zim. It was strange. Zim felt this awkward silence fill the air for a moment. It was as if Gaz was thinking.

“I also know the water hurts you..I think.” Gaz said holding out the umbrella to Zim, who looked at it and back at Gaz, who didn’t really seem that bothered with the fact she was now standing in the rain.

“What...what are you doing?” Zim said a little confused at the gesture.

“It’s raining bug boy.” Gaz said with this weirdly threatening but..sympathetic look, Zim couldn’t stop looking at her gaze.

Zim reached out slightly, and hesitantly took ahold of the umbrella, and then bringing it close to him, holding it over himself, still standing under that roof.

“But-“ Zim said, before the umbrella snapped shut and basically trapped him in it awkwardly.

Gaz looked at Zim with a face filled with disbelief and a little shock, before bursting out into laughter.

Zim slightly opened the umbrella, feeling his face a little flushed, looking at Gaz with these wide eyes, before laughing a little as well, finding the situation a little amusing and being almost astonished by how pretty Gazs laugh was. He had never heard her laugh until now.

“You were saying?” Gaz said, nothing but a giggle left as she crossed her arms slightly.

“Oh-“ Zim stepped down, “uh..well- you’re getting the water all over yourself- you need this-“ he said as he slightly held the umbrella over Gaz, who simply pushed it back before Zim could get any water on himself.

“Nah It’s cool Zim,” Gaz said with a small smile, something again, Zim had hardly ever seen, and had to admit it made him feel like smiling too, “I’ll just catch up to Dib, I should probably hurry though..he’s probably almost home.” She said as she turned, beginning to walk out of the school, not really even letting zim give her a response, so he just stood, looking at Gaz walk away before looking down to his feet, then it his hand that gripped the umbrella.

What was this strange feeling he felt jabbing at his side?
