Work Text:

"You want to…Talk... About like... .Anything? At all? I need you to talk to me Lila. Please." How could she resist him when he looked at her like this? With so much care and softness both in his eyes and his voice? Her head was so crowded, she couldn't hold onto a single thought long enough to wrap her own mind around it. How could she possibly explain what's going on to Diego? Everything was so new and fragile between the two of them. But with her being so damn messed up... How could she even think about him staying with her? Could he handle her being screwed up like this? She didn't want to cry. Really. But she just couldn't help it. It was too much. All of it. Her past, what she's been through those last few weeks. Lila wasn't fine. And here she was... crying right in front of Diego. No Lila wasn't fine. At all.

"Hey Babe, come on. What's going on?" he was worried. But she couldn't answer him... Just couldn't. Instead she sunk deeper into the couch, pulled the blanket closer und pretended that there was something really important going on in the fireplace. From the corner of her eye she could see how Diego slowly moved towards her. Then his hand slightly touched her shoulder. In a heartbeat she jumped up.

"Don't touch me!" Why was she yelling? No idea. Diego surely didn't have one either. He glanced at Lila who was standing in the corner, heavy breathing, shaking and obviously crying. Seeing her like this put a strange feeling in his guts. Like the knives cuts that he experienced as a child. This was much worse. He got up slowly, not taking his eyes off her.

"I said don't touch me." He ignored her. The next thing she felt were a pair of strong arms. She fought against them, tried to pull herself out of him holding her tight. But he wouldn't on the contrary. He pushed her head softly against his chest.

"I'm her Lila. I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. I'm here for whatever you need." She had no clue what she needed, she even didn’t know why she was crying or why she was so upset. She kept on crying and finally stopped fighting him. He kept on comforting her for what could be minutes or hours. Lila couldn't tell. She didn't want him to ever stop holding her like this. She pulled her own hands up and grabbed the back of his shirt. He waited for her tears to run dry. When he felt her legs beginning to give in, he simply picked her up and lowered the two of them back onto the bed. She curdled up on his lab and he continued stroking her back.

After a few more minutes her breathing slowed down and shortly after that she was asleep. Diego signed out and felt a tear escaping his eye as well. He had no idea how much he loved that woman. Seeing her hurt like this was too much for him to take. He wouldn't push her to tell her what all of this was about. But he needed to be there for her and when holding her tight while she was crying was serving that particular purpose, he would. He would do anything for Lila.

And eventually she will trust him enough to open up. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe the day after tomorrow. Right now, there was nothing more to do then what he did now. Diego pressed a kiss on Lila's head, settled himself more comfortable and went to sleep himself.
