Tethered to You

Summary:

Chloe asks Lucifer about Hell after their first time together. He replies that Hell doesn't make for good pillow talk. (Insert scene for 5x06)

Notes:

A/N: The third prompt was the word Hell. So I wrote about Chloe asking Lucifer about what Hell was like.

Work Text:

He should have known that this would have happened sooner or later. Lucifer had been avoiding any talk of Hell since he had returned. Unfortunately, that was damn near impossible. After all, it was the reason why he had been gone for several months. He had returned to rule Hell to protect her. Well, it was to protect everyone really. He would be lying if he said it wasn't mostly about her.

He had gone to Hell and back for her twice. He wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

The memory of them saying goodbye on his balcony had haunted him for the thousands of years he was in Hell. He had told her that they had gotten the prophecy wrong. It was about Hell coming to Earth. They had gotten something else about the prophecy wrong. He professed that his first love was never Eve. It was always Chloe. She had stood in front of him, begging him not to leave her. It killed him to know that he was the reason why she was upset. He wiped the tears from her face, kissing her softly before leaving. The last thing she saw was her Devil, wings in all their glory.

Granted, things are not smooth sailing upon his return. First, there was the whole Michael impersonating him situation. Then, there was the Detective finding out she was made for him. As to make matters worse, she found out that Amenadiel was the one who had blessed her parents. She was worried what they had wasn't real, not that he could blame her. He had the same fears that she did upon finding out himself. Thankfully, they moved on upon them realizing that he chose to be vulnerable around her. She told him so she chose to be vulnerable around him as well.

"Hell should be freezing over by now," Lucifer quipped, running his fingers through her hair.

They were now together in every sense of the word. It was only a few hours ago that she had came over to the penthouse. They both apologized and realized how foolish they had been in the first place. Finally, they had gotten together. Now they both had what they had been missing those several months aka each other.

"Oh because I said Hell would freeze before I slept with you. Such a funny Devil," Chloe replied, chuckling at the memory.

"Oh, is that so?"

"Yes. Speaking of Hell, I have a question."

"Of course Darling," he replied.

"What was it like there? In Hell, I mean," she asked him.

Lucifer visibly tensed up at the mere mention of Hell. He had spent the last several months trying to get it out of his mind. Every time he closed his eyes, he was back there. He could almost smell the ash and sulfur on his skin. There were countless nights where he woke up screaming, believing he was back in Hell. She was always there to bring him back. She was his tether.

"Hell doesn't exactly make for good pillow talk, Darling," Lucifer replied softly.

"You're right. I'm sorry I brought it up."

"No, it is understandable. The reason I have avoided talking about it was that it was too painful. My Hell down there looked like Los Angeles. You were there but you weren't actually there. It was all an illusion. It wasn't real," Lucifer replied, his voice breaking slightly.

"It is going to be okay Lucifer. You're back and that is real. We are real and incredible," Chloe assured him.

"Thank you my love. Sometimes it just gets to be too much."

"Well, it is a good thing I'm here then. I will always bring you back."

"It's because you're my tether," he admitted, with a smile.

"You're my tether too Lucifer," she replied before they both drifted off to sleep.
