Work Text:
It had been an exhausting but gratifying day. After months of looking for Sara, which also consisted of cleaning the timeline of aliens spread through history and trying to communicate with them in order to contact Sara, the legends finally found her. Those months weren't easy for Sara either with the things she had to do and witness. Right now only Sara knew about it. Even Gary, who was with her a lot of the time, didn't know everything/p>
But in this moment what mattered was that Sara was now safe and sound in her home, in the waverider, next to Ava and the legends. After a delicious dinner, provided by Gideon, that all the team enjoyed, and a bottle of champagne to celebrate the occasion, the rest of the legends headed to their own quarters because it was getting late and of course they wanted to give Sara and Ava some space. They barely had time to properly talk after they saw each other again and kissed like it was the first time earlier this day.
"You did such a good job, with the legends I mean, no that I've ever doubted of you" Sara said. She was holding Ava's hand while walking in circles around the bridge after leaving the galley. It seemed like a tour. Compartments that Sara knew every inch of them very well, but felt so distant and somehow surreal to be there again.
Ava looked at Sara with a confused expression "What? If you have seen me, I almost, well, I lost my damn mind", Ava chuckled and denied with her head. Only to think about how much time she lost without Sara, a second later, and that little smirk that she does with her mouth appeared in the face. The one she does everytime she remembers something that hurts her.
Sara stopped walking and positioned herself in front of Ava, carefully extending her hand to the tall blonde's face, and tucking a lock of hair behind her ear "I'm sure you are the greatest captain the legends have ever had. I'm so proud of you" She replied showing that pride in the smile that her lips formed.
That little touch just made Ava mesmerized and realized how not only her head, but her body missed Sara. "That's not true. As I recall, they have you, and we-" She pointed a finger at Sara's direction and then at herself. "are co-captains for life. Remember?"
"Always" Sara simply responded. She still had to adapt to the new dynamics, and catch up with everything that she missed while being gone, but that phrase didn't only mean being co-captains of the legends. It also meant a promise. A promise to spend the rest of their lifes together. A promise to be in the same team even when they disagree. A promise to always find each other no matter how cruel fate could be. Sara wouldn't let fate ruin this for her, she had had enough.
They started walking again. This time with a destination. Like they could read each other minds, silently they decided to head back to the quarters. Hands still joined together. Ava mincing just a little bit behind Sara. Her eyes never leaving the short blonde. Maybe with just a blink the love of her life would dissapear again, and she didn't believe her heart could survive that again.
It had been so long that they hadn't seen each other, that anyone else would think it felt awkward, but it didn't. It felt right. The last piece of the puzzle wasn't missing anymore, everything fit perfectly. It was home. Sara was Ava's home, and Ava's was her.
They entered the room and the door closed behind them. Sara or Ava, at this point it wasn't clear, brought the other into a needed hug. They melted into each other's arms. Sara's around Ava's neck. And Ava's around Sara's waist. Holding each other so close that they could become one at any time. Ava's head found a spot between Sara's head and shoulder. While Sara started brushing the former time bureau director hair. Feeling calm after a big storm. They didn't know how much time they spent in that position, but in that moment they were pretty sure time didn't exist.
Reluctantly, Sara stepped aside, but still holding Ava's waist "I really need a shower right now" She sighed and let her shoulders fall as tired as she was.
Ava nodded and gently massaged Sara's shoulders feeling all the tension ease. "Let me grab you a towel" She suggested heading to the closet. "Oh, and all your clothes are here and clean. I mean of course, I wouldn't throw them away. Duh. Although I may have grabbed one of your shirts when you were gone, I hope you don't mind I was just" Ava was blathering until Sara pulled the hand she was holding, and then brought the tall woman into a kiss to shut her up. Clumsy at first, but softer at the moment Ava reciprocated after being interrupted. Just a short kiss, but enough to flourish all kind of beautiful emotions.
"I was wondering if you would like to join me"
Ava looked directly at Sara's sky blue eyes, and smiled. It felt nice to smile meaning it, and not because she had to fake it in one of the missions, or smiling until Sara's abduction video replayed again in her head. "With you I'd go everywhere", Ava murmured.
They headed to the communal bathroom. The halls' lights were warm giving a romantic atmosphere, that probably Gideon set up on purpose. They calmly walked into the room. Ava playing with Sara's fingers and although they were quiet, the silent felt comfortable. They hadn't talked about what happened to each other during those months yet. They hadn't talked about the engagement neither, although they both were sure they were going to get married sooner than later. And Ava couldn't avoid glancing the big blue diamond ring that was on Sara's ring finger the moment she encountered her for the first time after months. And Sara couldn't wait to give it to her, but besides touching ground between them, this time she wanted to propose properly, on her knee and everything. That's why she guarded the ring in a little box after getting in the waverider.
Once Ava adjusted the water's temperature, and both got naked, just like they have had done a lot of times before, they entered into the shower. The bathroom wasn't really cozy, or aesthetically pretty. The walls, the ceiling, even the floor were all metallic. But it didn't mattered, because the company was what made it so homely.
The room was filled of fog due the hot water, and their hairs were already wet. Sara handed the soap to Ava, and she took it as an indication to lather her back. Being this close and touching this way, not in a really sexual way, felt familiar. Once Ava was done, Sara turned around to face her, and with the back of her hand reached Ava's face caressing her cheek with adoration. Ava closed her eyes letting herself immerse into the touch and when she opened them again, she could see Sara's bright eyes filled with tears, one of those leaving the left eye. Concern appeared instantly in her face as her hands reached Sara's face so she was holding her now. Before she could asked what was wrong, Sara spoke "I was so scared Aves"
This time Ava's eyes filled with tears "I know honey, I know." She whispered
"I couldn't stand the idea of not seeing your face ever again, I couldn't stand thinking of how you must have been feeling. I just, I was trying to be strong, but it was so damn exhausting", She admitted breathing heavily.
Ava couldn't help but to kiss her softly "I'm here, you are safe" She paused inhaling before speaking again. "I'm sorry I couldn't get to you sooner. I'm sorry I didn't realize at the moment, I'm-"
"No no no baby" Sara exclaimed stopping Ava's apologies. "It wasn't your fault. And you don't have to apologize. I'm just so glad we are here together" She lifted Ava's chin with her thumb so she could look at her in the eyes "Look at me" She softly said. Once she made sure Ava's expressive eyes were looking at her own, she added "I love you so much, my final girl"
Ava smiled, her eyes still shining because of the tears, but also because of the love she has for Sara "I love you too"
Ava kissed her and Sara deepened the kiss, moving her hands from Ava's shoulders to her hips. Pushing closer as it was possible. "I need to feel you. I need to feel you are real" Sara pleaded in her lips before abandoning them so she could take care of Ava's neck, who was intoxicated by her touch. The tall blonde's hands exploring Sara's body which was aching for more. They had plenty of time to talk afterwards.
