Chapter Text
Edward’s POV
A huge building was on the horizon and it looked old, with unkempt gardens surrounding it. The driver stopped quite a ways from the building and let me out, I handed him the money I owed him for the drive as I stepped out with my bags. I walked towards the old building that I had heard was where the students who were coming for the summer courses were going to be staying.
A bus was coming towards the campus as well, likely filled with students who will be attending classes alongside me. It stopped and people flowed out from the doors with what almost felt like gracefulness. Two boys who were chatting with each other caught my eye, they had stepped into the mud that was left over from the rain I’d seen dying down on my own drive here.
One of the boys slipped in the slick slippery mud and got caught by the other. I noticed that the one who slipped has dark hair and brown or hazel eyes, I can’t really tell. While the other boy has dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes, although both have dark bags under their eyes and look worn out from the journey here. I decided to ignore them for the time being, knowing that if anything interesting is going to happen with them it will be when they aren’t exhausted.
I got the key for my room at the front desk that had a very bored looking adult woman and what looked to be a hall monitor off to the side. I was given the key to a room on the third floor, each floor has one hundred rooms and I got stuck with room three hundred eight. When I entered my roommate had already settled in, although whoever it is has gone off to do something else.
Deciding to get comfortable and relax was my first coherent thought since I stepped foot in this building. I laid my bags down on the floor and pulled out a blanket I brought with me in case it was cold in the dorm room. The bed was made with metal and looked relatively old, although it still was quite sturdy. My brother had asked me to call once I was settled in, so I pulled out my phone and sat on the bed. It rang a few times before a bright and cheery voice answered.
“Hi Edward, how are the dorms? Are they old and falling apart or did the place get cleaned up to host humans? I wish I could be there and see it,” Geno’s voice was screaming through the phone at me, his excitement present in his voice.
“The place is fine, nothing like back home, but good enough to sleep in,” the disappointed sigh on the other end of the phone made it clear that I was boring again.
“That doesn’t sound too fun, I was expecting you to tell me about how creepy it is and then you’d come home,” I smiled a bit at how badly Geno wants me home, he hardly even let me leave in the first place.
“The only creepy thing about this place is the fact that you can slip in the mud and become a mud monster,” Geno giggled at that and I knew that I had made him happy enough.
“That sounds fun, but Mom and Dad are calling me for supper so we can talk again later, bye” the slight disappointment was hidden in my voice as I told him I’d talk to him later.
The fog had cleared up a little so I decided to go outside and take a walk around. While I was walking around the grounds I accidentally ran into one of the boys from earlier, he was shorter than me so I didn’t really see him since I was looking up at the sky. He groaned and glared at me, that’s when I realized he just looked similar to the other boy. His hair was more unruly than the boy from before and he seemed to be in a worse mood.
“Um, sorry for running into you,” my apology didn’t make him any less hostile.
“Yeah, you’re so sorry for running into the short guy. Not, you probably did it on purpose,” the sarcasm in his voice was toxic and I feared being close to him for too long would lead to my demise.
“I really am sorry,” he scoffed, just before his eyes lit up.
“Hi sorry, I’m Drew,” my shock made him burst out laughing and I felt embarrassed that I was the one he was making fun of.
“My name is Edward, please call me that,” Drew’s laughter died down and he put out his hand, inviting me to shake it and I felt my cheeks get flustered as our hands met.
“While it was nice to meet you Edward, I have to go before my brother finds out I tagged along on his summer trip. Bye,” that made some dots line up, he’s the brother of one of the boys from earlier.
My face remained flustered as I thought of how his hand felt in mine. Quickly I decided to head back to my dorm room until supper, not wanting to get caught blushing over a cute guy. Just before I got to my dorm room I saw the duo from earlier that day and they both noticed me.
“Hey, why are you staring? You know it’s rude to stare at people,” I made a quick apology before passing them, they gave me weird looks as I disappeared into my room.
I didn’t even get ten minutes alone until my roommate burst in, looking more like one of those guys in the ads for energy drinks. He noticed me sitting on my bed with my laptop in hand and he sat down beside me. The way he looked at me was unnerving and I wanted to get out of there when he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
“So, I heard there is a creepy room downstairs and I need a buddy to check it out with me. You’ll do that won’t you? I mean, unless you’re scared,” he was breathing down my neck and I felt like crying, going somewhere alone with him didn’t seem safe.
“I don’t even know your name,” he laughed a bit before opening his mouth to speak again.
“It’s Felix, don’t forget it,” his voice was sending chills down my spine and my brain was screaming for me to run out the room and not look back.
“I’m Edward, about that room, are we even allowed in there? I mean if it’s creepy should we even do that? I really don’t want to get kicked out on my first day here,” the smirk on his face grew as he forced me to stand up, before dragging me downstairs to a room that was locked from the outside.
The lock was broken and hanging off to the side, he forced me to continue into the room with him. There were two other people in there with us and it was once again the duo, they both turned to look at us. It was clear they saw how Felix was gripping my hand to the point that it hurt and they gave each other a look.
“Hey, can we talk to him alone for a moment? Sorry, we just really need to catch up. We met each other a while ago and are good friends, so we don’t really want you here during our chat,” Felix looked pissed off at the blonde boy as he spoke, but he left us alone and headed back upstairs.
“Thank you so much, I didn’t know what he wanted to do to me down here,” both of the boys got closer to me and wrapped me in a hug.
“It’s a good thing that we were down here, you would have been in big trouble if we weren’t,” I nodded to the darker haired boy and tried to hide in his shirt.
“Oh, we should introduce ourselves, I’m Isaac and the one you are hugging is Nevin,” my knees felt weak and I was overcome with fear of sleeping in my room.
“I’m Edward, that guy you saved me from was Felix, he’s my roommate for the summer,” they both made a face and I could only imagine that it was sympathy.
“Well, if he’s ever too creepy for you, you can always crash in one of our rooms. My roommate is pretty chill,” Isaac laughed a bit and smiled at me, my worries didn’t seem so worrying.
“Thanks, but which room do you sleep in? Mine is three hundred eight,” they both shared their room numbers and told me I just had to knock.
We returned to our rooms after that and I saw that Felix was nowhere to be seen, I made sure to check the whole room before putting on my pajamas. He came back about ten minutes later and collapsed on his bed, falling asleep almost instantly. I spent several minutes making sure he was actually sleeping before daring to close my eyes to catch some sleep of my own.
