Chapter Text
Spencer Reid understood the concept of love, that much he was sure of. The problem was apparent, though. He had never experienced it. His co-working family had partners come and go, but he never got so much as a second date. No, Spencer had never felt romantic love for another person before. He had only experienced the fleeting crushes of teen and young adult years. That is until he met (y/n) Winchester.
She owned a small coffee shop that he passed every day on his way to work. Before he became a regular customer, he would see her scrambling behind the cafe bar with a smile on her face as he walked by. He wanted to get coffee there so desperately, but Spencer was always nervous about trying a new place. It took him a few months of walking by every day and (y/n) occasionally waving to him for him to actually set foot in the shop.
Once he did, he never wanted to leave. The place smelled like a dark roast with a hint of old books. A few tables were scattered around, and a used book library in the far corner was filled with beanbag chairs. When he entered, it felt like heaven; once he met her, it felt like home. The place wasn’t busy so early in the morning, the sun barely peeking up over the horizon. (y/n) greeted Spencer with the smile she always wore when he walked by, but he swore there was something different behind it. “Not to be weird, but I’ve seen you walk by a few times. What made you finally stop in?”
You. “I’ve been looking for a new place to try, and this place seemed like the best fit for me.”
She smiled at that. “What will the name be for your order?”
“Spencer. Spencer Reid.”
“Alright, what can I get started for you this morning, sweetheart?”
Oh god. “Large coffee, Black. You have add-ins out here for us to use, right?”
“Absolutely, just let me know if you have any trouble or anything is out of stock over there. I’ll get that coffee started for you. This one’s on the house.”
“What?”
“I’m giving you free coffee Spencer, best take the deal before I change my mind.” Spencer nodded and sidestepped out of the way of the cash register. He was so confused as to what was happening. Why was she giving him a free drink? She didn’t have to do that. He had the money in his pocket to pay for it.
“Spencer!” His coffee was ready. She handed him his cup as soon as he reached her. “I hope you enjoy it. I’d love to see you again.” Their fingertips touched. It sent a jolt of electricity running up Spencer’s arm.
“I’d love to see you too.” Spencer blushed at his words and gave her a polite, excusing nod. He made his way over to the self-serve portion of the counter. He was surprised by the amount of writing that was on the side of the cup until he realized what it was;
The pretty girl had given him her phone number.
