Chapter 1: Pep Talk

Chapter Text

A new group of survivors came to the town of Belmont, this time from Murdenu, a town that Dragan and his lackeys invaded and nearly destroyed during their horrendous path to resurrect Dracula.

As they settled into their new homes, one man seemed to fancy Greta. He wasn’t even there a whole day and he was already on her. Compliments here, praising there. It was annoying to say the least.

Alucard began to notice the flirtation towards Greta as the months progressed, and he could see that the man was becoming a thorn in his side. He’d met the man, heard his name once but, didn’t care to remember nor use it; it was strange, from the day he first arrive to present, he was giving the dhampir weird vibes and Greta was getting a strange feeling from him as well.

He thanked whatever god was listening that Greta didn’t fall for the man’s sly comments and other attempts of romancing her but, there were times Alucard caught her blush at what he had said then quickly dismiss him to go back to work.

They weren’t together, they were attracted to one another but he couldn’t help but feel a spike of jealously in him. Why was she blushing at what he said? What was so damn funny, when his joke wasn’t even worth a chuckle?

Alucard watched from his bedroom window one afternoon, overlooking the villagers hard at work. Some beginning to start another house, others making preparations for lunch and of course, the children making their rambunctious rounds. His high view from below gave him the advantage to keep an eye on everyone and then his eyes landed on Greta as she made her way towards the stone steps of the castle.

His chest tightened in excitement a bit, she was coming inside the castle to accompany him to make their rounds for this evening’s patrol. She had asked him once the war was over to help hone her fighting skills and impressively, she has improved greatly, even learning a spell or two from Sypha just in case she didn’t have her hammer or sword nearby.

She was halfway up the steps when that tyke came rushing, calling her by his little pet name that he has labeled her. Even to this day Alucard won’t know why she allows him to do so. Alucard’s right eye twitches in annoyance as he watched the two.

“Are you going on patrol tonight?” He asked her. Greta turns her body to face him and places one hand on her hip with a nod.

“I am. Alucard has asked that I accompany him and a few others to keep patrol around the west area.”

“I was coming along as well, had to show my little brothers their big brother was strong and can hold a sword pretty well.” He brags and Greta gives him a polite smile.

“Great, then I would suggest you get some rest beforehand. We won’t be returning until the next morning.” Greta instructed and lover boy nods. Greta takes this time to leave while her admirer watches after her, dreamily.

Alucard scoffs at the guy, was he serious? Trying to impress her? She already told him once that having low-key swagger wasn’t going to affect her. What makes him think he was so much better?

Alucard would see him practice sword fighting with the other villagers and he wasn’t bad but, he was always open on his left. And this guy was going on patrol tonight with them? He frowned in annoyance, he better not mess things up just to get Greta’s attention.

“Don’t tell me you’re watching them again.” Trevor’s teasing question makes the dhampir turn and look to see the vampire hunter leaning against the doorway, a smirk on his lips.

Alucard raises an eyebrow at him, to play off his obvious snooping.

“I am watching the people make their homes. That is all.” Alucard tells him. Not entirely a lie but something to deflect his question.

“You could just tell him to back off. Aren’t you two a thing now?” Trevor asks, coming closer and standing by the dhampir’s side.

“That is our business, Belmont.” Alucard bit out almost a little too harshly, his fangs peaked to Trevor. Trevor paid no mind to it. He knew his friend was obviously jealous of the new guy and couldn’t help but, get a few kicks of teasing at him.

“No need for the fangs, I’m just saying if you like this woman shouldn’t you want the mutual attraction between both of you to grow more?” Trevor asked.

Alucard scowled.

“What do you know about romance? Last I remembered, you told Sypha that you were “single and carefree for years”. If that’s what romance is called these days, I’m in the wrong generation.” Alucard tells him. His eyes return to Greta who is once again stopped by a group of children.

She grins at whatever they are telling her and Alucard feels his lips pull into a small smile, then a hand lands on his right shoulder. He turns to look at Trevor as the hunter gives a knowing grin.

“Taking my advice sure won’t help anything, but I know if you what you want in life then go for it,” Trevor pauses to see Greta waving at the children as they scurried off to play and finally reaches the castle doors where Sypha was there to greet her with a smile of her own.

Trevor smiles at his lover, and the two women interact as they entered the castle together.

“Because, I sure have everything I wanted, even more.” He says.

Patting the dhampir on the shoulder, Trevor leaves the room and Alucard is left to reflect on his words.

A knock on the door and the call of his name brings the dhampir out of his thoughts turning to the woman who was on his mind.

“You ready to talk with the others about tonight’s plans?” Greta asked.

Alucard gives her a smile and nods, following her out the room to head to one of the war rooms.

As they walked together, Greta noticed how unusually quiet he was. On their walks they would have some playful banter between them but today he was silent.

“Are you alright? You usually aren’t this quiet.” She gave him a smile and nudges him in the arm.

Alucard gives her a reassuring smile.

“I’m fine. Just thinking is all.”

“Uh, oh. That’s never a good thing.” She teases.

“Hilarious. I just…have some thinking to do is all.” He tells her and Greta noticed he blushed a bit when he says this.

“Alright, just make sure you don’t overthink anything or you’ll go full crazy.” She tells him half teasing, half serious. Alucard chuckles.

“You’re just full of jokes today aren’t you?”

“Would I be me if I weren’t?”

“No…” he stops, so does Greta and she turns to him as Alucard mustered up another smile.

“And I wouldn’t want it any other way.” He tells her making the woman before him blush and smile as well.

“Hmm…you really are an odd man, Alucard.” She tells him and the two resume their pace.

“Odd, indeed.”
