Work Text:
Working on jobs with Fennec Shand had always been easy in a sense. There was no doubt by you in her proficiency and abilities as a bounty hunter. Her many skills had made the work go by quickly as well, and you had found that she was relatively easy to get along with most days. The small crush you had developed on the sharpshooter certainly helped in this regard too. It was hard to resist her charm after all, and her flirtatious teasing with you definitely had its effect on those growing feelings of yours.
Everything had seemed to be going wrong with this one job though, as around every turn you two had run into trouble. First the information on the target you both had gotten had turned out to be wrong. Then when trying to leave town you had returned to the docking area only to find out that your ship had been stolen. To top it all off, the weather had gone from sunny to sour within minutes. Rain had crashed down around the two of you with an unrelenting passion, and had soaked you both to the bone very quickly.
In other words—it was a very bad start to a job that was supposed to be so simple.
Thankfully Fennec had managed to find an inn for you both to stay at for the night. She had been the one to talk to the innkeeper while you had sat and wallowed in your own self pity over the awful day. You had felt exhausted honestly, and you had also wanted nothing more than to sleep the night away. Luckily she hadn’t taken long to get a room, and soon you were practically skipping down the hallway to where you’d be staying for the rest of the evening. Your companion trailing closely behind and chuckling at seeing your unbound excitement. Though actually entering into the room had killed your joyous mood within mere seconds.
“There’s only one bed.”
The words had left you before you could even stop them. The realization had dawned on you almost instantly as you had first walked into the room that you would be sharing with the famed sharpshooter. It was hard not to notice the large single bed in the center of the room after all. It was like the galaxy itself had framed the damned thing with a halo of light. A beacon of sorts to guide you into its plush warmth and softness.
You couldn’t deny how much you had wanted to just throw yourself onto it. Your body had ached and your mind had felt overrun from the day’s earlier events. Not only that, but your soaked clothes and chilled self from the rain yearned for some comfort. So nothing else had seemed better than just tossing yourself under those covers to sleep all the bad of the day away.
Instead though you had remained frozen in place at the sight of it. Quickly finding yourself unsure of whether or not this was actually happening to you at the moment. It almost felt like you had walked into one of those crappy rom coms you had seen on the holovids. The ones where everything just comically fell into place for the main couple to end up in this type of situation. Only this time the main pair happened to be you and Fennec.
Maybe you had been given the key to the wrong room? Though Fennec surely would have caught something like that. You were sure of that at least.
Fennec had ended up brushing past you still standing shocked in the doorway. She had chuckled when she had, and the sound of it pulled you out of your confused trance for only a moment. Now finding yourself watching as she had sat on the edge of the bed, and had propped her rifle up against one of the nightstands. She had begun removing her gear piece by piece soon after doing so. A small amused hum leaving her, as she had noticed you still remaining in your spot by the door.
“It’s the only room they had left.” Fennec had said nonchalantly as she had sent a questioning stare in your direction. Her eyes had roamed over you briefly—in a way that had only made goosebumps raise along your skin—before her gaze had met yours again. “It’s only for one night anyway.”
“Do you want me to sleep on the floor or something?” You had asked while biting your lip. Finally moving to enter fully into the room, as you had closed the door behind you with a soft click of the lock. Soon having looked back to the bounty hunter almost shyly. “I don’t mind.”
Fennec had stared at you for a long time. Her brows raised in surprise as her head had tilted to the side. At first you had wondered if you had upset her in some way. The thought of which only making you shift in place with more unease, though soon she had squashed those worries of yours. “I figured we’d just share the bed. It’s big enough for both of us after all.”
“Oh... I guess that makes sense.”
You had turned away from her again. Feeling embarrassed a little embarrassed now from your earlier question. Of course Fennec would just assume you two would share a bed. She was a professional after all, and even if she seemed to be flirting with you at times, you knew that there had probably been nothing serious from all of it. Right? Right. It was just a bed, and you two were just close friends. Sharing a bed together should have been easy—and yet at the same time—to you it had almost seemed like a cruel nightmare. After all—it's not every day you have to share a bed with the person of your seemingly unrequited crush.
“What?” The sound of her voice had grabbed your attention once more, and you had turned to face her again. Though this time you had found yourself faced with the sight of her smirking over at you. Her eyes had held this mischievous glint to them that you had seen far too often by this point. As she had stood and walked her way over to where you still remained by the door. The sight of her amused grinning and bright eyes making your skin warm for a whole new reason. “Afraid I’ll bite?”
The words had dripped with unmistakable desire, as she had leaned in close to you. So close that her nose had just brushed yours, as her breath had fanned your cheeks. The smile she had worn only growing at seeing your eyes widen at the weight her words had held. Your heart now fluttering with surprise, while a pleasant feeling of aching want had pooled inside of you. It would only take one small step for the two of you to kiss.
One single step and her lips would be with yours.
“Fennec…” Your voice had trailed off again as you had felt your eyes begin to close on instinct. The need you had felt for that kiss you so wanted taking over, as your body had only moved closer to her own. Though that kiss you both had wanted hadn’t come, and soon you had opened your eyes again to stare at her with a mix of confusion.
“Don’t worry I don’t usually bite anyway.” She had whispered softly as she had pulled back, though the teasing smirk she had worn never left her features. “Well unless you want me too that is.”
Your brows had furrowed at that last part of her words, as the confusion that clouded your muddled mind had grown. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Fennec hadn’t answered that question of yours. Instead she had merely thrown another teasing look over her shoulder at you, as she had gone back to sort out her gear. You on the other hand had barely moved much from your spot on the other side of the room. As you had still found yourself feeling a little awkward with the situation, and now even a little rejected from the earlier tease of a kiss from the sharpshooter.
Sharing a bed with the person of your affections was definitely not how you had planned to be spending this job after all. Though to be fair nothing had really gone well so far today anyway. Turns out you couldn’t even manage to get a proper kiss in at all. Lucky you.
“We need to leave early tomorrow.” The statement from her was a simple one, though you knew it was her nice way of telling you to hurry up and get ready for bed. “You can shower first.”
You had only nodded. As you hadn’t really trusted your voice to form proper words at the moment. Instead you had focused on getting yourself ready for bed like she had suggested. Showering and changing into something more comfortable before tucking yourself in the warm sheets. Honestly the only truly nice thing of the evening so far had to have been how soft and comfortable the bed was—at least you had that going for you.
After you had finished in the shower, Fennec herself had gone to get herself ready as well. You had faced the other wall while she had. Trying to get yourself to relax as you waited for her to eventually join you on the bed. Your heart dropping in its cavity at the sound of the shower turning off in the other room. Any minute now she would be back, and honestly you hadn’t been sure if you could handle such a thing. This was completely new territory for you both after all, and you weren’t sure how it would play out.
Though to be fair you two did nearly just kiss. That had to be a good sign. Right?
The mattress had dipped with Fennec’s added weight onto the bed. Her joining you had made you freeze for a small second before you had relaxed some more. Though you had never truly returned to being comfortable. As your body had remained stiff and uneasy while laid next to her. You hadn’t even heard her come back into the main room, and hadn’t even prepared yourself properly for it.
Tonight would be a long sleepless night it seemed.
“Good night.” Her voice had almost made you jump, but you caught yourself before you could. “Try to get some rest now.”
“Yes of course... Good night Fennec.”
The two of you had laid in silence for some time after that. Neither of you had said a word to the other, and you had assumed that the sharpshooter was well on her way to sleep. Her gentle breaths and own still form behind you seemingly making that clear. You had tried to do the same of course. Your eyes squeezed shut, as you had tried your best to will your frenzied mind to sleep. Though you had found yourself struggling to do so at the moment. As your thoughts had kept going back to that earlier interaction with her. Your mind desperately wanting and thinking about kissing the woman literally at your side.
Would it be soft? Sweet? Maybe it would be rough and passionate? You weren’t sure honestly. But that didn’t stop yourself from wondering about it.
“I told you I wouldn’t bite.” The sound of her whispering had caused for your eyes to open again. Her voice had been soft and gentle within the darkness. Its sweetness helping to calm your nerves a little bit as she had spoken. “I’m not going to hurt you or anything.”
She had almost sounded sad with those last few words, and you had felt your heart ache at the thought of possibly being the cause of it. “I know.”
Fennec had rolled over to face you now, and feeling her shift in movement had made you glance over your shoulder at her. There wasn’t much of an expression on her face when you had taken in the sight of her within the darkness. She had also watched you in turn. Her gaze steady and firm as her eyes trailed across your form. You couldn’t read what she was thinking at first, though soon another small smile had spread across her cheeks again as her eyes had met yours.
In an instant your head had snapped back around again to face the wall. Your heart now thundering loudly in your chest, as you had found yourself hoping she couldn’t hear it within the quiet room.
“If you know then why are you acting like a trapped little mouse in a cage?” She had teased, though that same sadness had seeped through in her voice again. “You seem to be so scared of me.”
“I’m not.”
“Could have fooled me.” There had been a small pause as she thought for a moment, and you had wondered what you could say to assure her. Though she had beat you to talking again. Her own voice becoming even quieter as she spoke once more. “Do you want me to sleep on the floor? I can if it will make you more comfortable.”
“No!” You had blurted out quickly, and before you could stop yourself you had rolled over to face her. “I want you to stay here with me.”
Fennec had seemed shocked by your sudden boldness, and you had felt yourself flinch at the realization of what had happened. Though she hadn’t seemed too offended with your reaction at all. If anything the sharpshooter had almost seemed to thrive from it. Her eyes once again holding that look of mirth to them that had made your heart sing from a simple glance.
“Oh you do?” She had smirked again, and you had found yourself warming at the sight of the teasing grin she loved to wear. “Good... Because I want to stay here with you too.”
Fennec’s hand had reached out after her confession, and she had cupped your cheek before you could really reply again. Her thumb had brushed against your warm skin there softly. The contact making your eyes briefly drop down to her lips again, as you had found yourself wanting to lean forward to take that kiss you had so desired from her. She had only smirked more when she had noticed of course, and she had allowed her nose to brush yours again just as it had done earlier that night. Her lips now ghosting over yours to tease at the prospect of that kiss.
“I believe I owe you a kiss?” She had mumbled softly. Her lips teasing against your own, as she tested the waters for a small moment. The brief contact and thought of what she was suggesting making your breath catch in your throat. Your heart now practically ringing in your ears, as your eyes had begun to flutter close.
“Fennec…”
The bounty hunter’s lips had captured yours before you could finish your thought. The kiss you now shared with her pulling you together like it was the most natural thing in the galaxy. It was soft—yet passionate—and with each passing moment you had found your lungs straining for air. Though at the same time you had never wanted to part from her. Instead you had wished to drown in her lips for the rest of your life if you could. A death you would readily accept without any regrets.
Of course Fennec would never let that happen though. As soon she had pulled back enough so that you both could breathe again. Your lips now tingling from the after shock of the kiss, as your mind had found itself into another fuzzy haze of desire. You really hoped that wouldn’t be the only time you two would be sharing a kiss, and from the look on her own face, you had a feeling that it had been only the first of many.
“See? I told you I didn’t bite.” She had teased as she pressed another quick kiss to your cheek. “Though I could some other time if you want me too.”
This time it was you that had laughed at her words, though soon it had died down to allow a fond hum to sound from you. “I’ve always wanted that.”
“What? Me to bite you?”
“No!” You had rolled your eyes as you grinned. “A kiss. I’ve always wanted to kiss you. You were always teasing me with it though.”
“I know. You’re just really fun to tease... I can’t help it.” She had confessed almost guiltily. A brief look of shyness crossing her features before it too had disappeared again to her teasing one. “There are plenty more that await for you—kisses I mean—though only if you want of course.”
She had given you an out like she always had with everything, but you knew that you would not be taking it. As you had soon pressed a kiss to her own cheek. Pulling back to smile at the sight of her own flushed expression settling onto her beautiful features. “I can’t wait.”
Fennec and you had become settled within each other’s arms by this point. She had your head cradled under her chin, as her fingers drew loving designs across your form. She had tried to encourage you to sleep again, and you had tried your best to do as she had suggested. Closing your eyes just as she had, as you had tried to will your mind to drift off to sleep. Though you had found yourself beginning to question one important factor of the night. A thought which you had found preventing you from joining her in slumber.
“This wasn’t the last room at the inn, was it?” You had asked her after thinking for a moment, as your tired mind had barely managed to keep you awake to question her. “You planned this. The bed thing. Didn’t you Fennec?”
Fennec had let out a chuckle at that, and soon her eyes had opened to look at you again. She had let out an amused hum at the sight of your own sleepy expression, as the embrace she had around you had squeezed you tighter into her chest. The grin she wore bright and laced to the brim with a mischievous glint.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about darling.”
