The Five Times Josh Told Wrench He Loves Him and the One Time He Was Heard

Summary:

Wrench had joined DedSec because they were his idols and he loved everything they stood for, but he hadn't expected to make some of the best friends he'd ever had or feel his heart going crazy around a certain hacker in a green hoodie.

Notes:

I know Watch Dogs 2 isn't really all that big anymore, but this ship makes me happy and there isn't enough content of it.

Chapter Text

It had been a long, tiring day, but it wasn’t over yet. Wrench was on a mission, the first mission he’d ever received and one he deemed very important. He glanced back down at his phone to refresh his memory of what this guy looked like, a picture of someone about his age in a green hoodie, gray shirt, and dark grey beanie. Josh Sauchak was his name, apparently, and he also went by the alias Hawt Sauce.

He remembered everything that had happened that day, walking into the basement of a DnD club after a couple of weeks of using his skills to track down his current idols, DedSec, he hadn’t expected to be greeted by an empty hacker lair. Sitting down on a couch that was more comfortable than any couch he’d sat on before, not having fond enough memories of previous couches to really care about how they felt, he had decided to just wait for the people of DedSec to return to their lair. After that, he was greeted by a man that looked close to his age and a slightly older woman and given the mission to recruit Hawt Sauce.

Yelling snapped him out of his thoughts and he looked up, spotting a man tackling someone in a familiar green hoodie, a skeleton mask dropping onto the ground. He suddenly had a million thoughts rushing through his head of how everything could go wrong, but shook it off the best he could, reminding himself that he needed to focus. He ran at the man, pushing him off the person in the green hoodie then punching him hard. Seeing that the man was disoriented, he grabbed at the arm of the person in the green hoodie, trying his hardest to pull him up, but was pushed away.

“Dude, I’m fucking here to help, I’m not with those assholes,” Wrench spoke, seeing the look of distrust on the person’s face, he realized he’d completely forgotten his name and let out a frustrated groan. “You’re the... The fucking.. Uh.. hacker dude, right? I’m a hacker dude too, I’m here to save you.”

“I don’t have time... I’m running.” Green hoodie responded in a tired tone, Wrench noticed how his eyes were red and his forehead had uncomfortable-looking marks from the mask. Green hoodie started to run away again, but was clearly struggling with the cars continuously driving by.

Wrench glanced up at the traffic lights and pulled something out of his vest, sticking it to the pole then stepping back, tugging Green hoodie with him. The traffic light started going crazy and the cars stopped, some people annoyed and honking loudly. He saw Green hoodie cover his ears, the loud noises irritating him. Grabbing Green hoodie’s arm, he led him out of the area and down an alley to avoid being seen.

“Okay, that fucked up their shit enough for me to do another thing, keep those ears covered.” Wrench instructed, looking at Green hoodie to make sure he was okay. Green hoodie seemed to just be following his instructions, but he wasn’t sure Green hoodie was entirely present, he related somewhat.

Taking another item out of his pocket, he pulled a pin off of a weird round object before rolling it out of the alley and into the street. An explosion could be heard, followed by thick clouds of smoke spreading their tendrils wherever they could reach. Seeing his chance, he led Josh in a different direction, taking him back to the DnD club.

Several hours later after Green hoodie, who he now remembered was named Josh, had calmed down enough, the man around his and Josh’s age, who he thinks is named Mercutio or something, introduced them to DedSec and explained their current goals. The older woman (was her name Tara?) told them about what she planned to do and how they could help then told them to go rest.

Wrench found himself rooming with Josh since the club basement was too small for them to each have their own rooms. He figured he’d end up having to sleep with his mask on every day if he didn’t want Josh to be disgusted by him.

“Can I have a hug?” Josh asked, sitting up on his air mattress and looking at Wrench.

“What?”

“Can I have a hug?” Josh had somehow moved closer without him noticing, making Wrench wonder just how tired he was after everything.

“Sure, dude.” Wrench nodded, opening his arms for Josh then being knocked over by Josh latching onto him and surprising him. He wasn’t sure whether he should be feeling his face growing warmer under his mask and his heartbeat increasing or not. Awkwardly, he wrapped his arms around Josh, lightly patting his back. “You good?”

“I’m... fine. Thanks for the save.” Josh’s voice still sounded tired and Wrench wondered if he would ever hear him sound more awake.

He felt Josh’s hands start to slip lower and lower, exclamation points flashing on his mask. He was about to say something, but heard a soft snoring. He squinted and saw that Josh had fallen asleep on him, letting out a sigh. He decided he’d let Josh stay the way he was, laying back with his arms still loosely draped around Josh’s body. If he heard Josh mumble out a quiet “I love you” in his sleep, he wouldn’t say anything about it, dismissing it as random sleep talk and eventually falling asleep as well.
