Work Text:
At first, it's basically nothing. Irritation right between her shoulders, an urge to hiss at every conversation that drags on a little bit too long. The little bit of edge when someone, anyone, for the hundredth time, asks her just what exactly growing up in "You know... there," was like.
Mal has way, way bigger problems so this one just slides its way in. If everything in the world is just a little bit dulled compared to that thing, well.
"Can you just stop?" It's unbearable, the way Evie is just tapping her foot against the leg of the desk.
She can't stop watching Evie. She's not sure what it is - Evie has ordered some extremely expensive perfume from some absolutely overpriced vendor, somehow, and she's doused herself in a way that's a little less subtle than she would expect. And she won't stop tapping her foot. Hard sole of the boot against metal. Tap, tap, tap.
"I'm not doing anything," Evie hisses. "And why don't you just- ugh!" She scrunches her nose. "Take a shower."
Nothing is wrong, of course, but from that day Evie starts dressing in the shower stalls down the hall.
"Do you think something's weird with Evie?"
"Huh?" says Jay, only half-turned towards her as he waves at his teammates.
"Never mind." Mal stalks up to her dorm room and tries to ignore the whiff of perfume as she falls asleep.
A month passes and everything gets somehow warmer and slower and stickier. What's magic even good for? Mal opens every window in her room and turns her head when Evie makes an appearance. Her perfume has turned sickly sweet in the heat but Mal can't muster up the energy to object.
Still, there's one change that she can't help but notice - Evie is wearing an armor apron.
"Armor is on trend," she says defensively when Mal questions her. "Everyone's wearing armor now."
Mal doesn't know much about fashion but she's actually pretty sure that armor codpieces haven't been in for awhile, at least for Evie.
Thing is, as silly as the armor looks, whatever perfume Evie's been bathing in lately makes her magnanimous.
"It's nice," she says, running a fingernail up the overlapping plates between Evie's legs. Click, click, click. "I like it."
She's not expecting the discordant clank of metal as she's shoved up against the wall of their bedroom. The way that Evie dives into the crook of her neck, growling.
Oh, but she'd let Evie huff puff and blow the whole thing down.
But then Evie pulls away from her, horrified. "What's happening?"
There's only one book that can answer that question, and they manage to avoid each other for the rest of the day before reconvening in their bedroom, refusing to meet each other's eyes.
Mal remembers a conversation, one of those quickly snatched moments with her mother before she turned her back on everything she'd ever known.
"Look, kid, when someone gets their magic..." Her mother grimaced. "Well, some things happen. They might-"
Her face had stilled, then lit.
"Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure it out."
Is this what she had meant? None of the students around her seem so preoccupied.
Their fairy godmother had failed. This wasn't covered in "The Stroke of Midnight: Your Changing Body."
The book doesn't help. A simple cooling spell; only a bucket of ice and a little bit of salt plus murmuring a secret that only she knows. Well, that one's easy.
Mal's magic sparks and sputters, swelling along with the buzz under her skin. The potion they'd been trying explodes spectacularly.
Evie tackles her to the ground as the light blooms above them. There's a moment where they both stay, stunned and shuttered. Then Evie leans forward, deliberately, putting enough pressure on her that Mal is pretty sure that someone else may have gotten the, "Well, I'm sure you'll figure it out," lecture.
Mal isn't an innocent. She knows how to get to a happy ever after all on her own, and she barely has to explain it to Evie to know she's on board.
They pick a weekend. Tell everyone who matters that they're working on a project. Carlos and Jay are kind of doing their own thing by now, anyway, they hardly even notice. Even though Mal tells them they're studying.
Studying. Shouldn't they notice? Mal wonders if she should be upset.
It's awkward at first. Mal's not sure if she should take the lead and Evie just looks like she kind of wants to die a little, but they kiss. Something experimental, but it makes Evie bold. She growls and presses the issue, pushing Mal down on the bed and Mal can finally feel what she's been hiding behind that armor.
Oh. That's unexpected. Evie is going faster now, harsher, being much less careful with her clothes in a way that is very unlike Evie but Mal doesn't even care because her whole skin is buzzing.
The corset. The dress. The underwear. Evie should be horrified at the treatment she's giving Mal's clothing, but she casts the scraps aside unheeding.
"I can smell you," she says. "I can smell you." Oh, those are very different to Mal, because one is perfume and one is the insistent press of Evie's mouth against her cunt. Pleasure blooms between her legs but she wonders if she should pull away, because something about the way she says it makes Mal want to surrender.
Evie goes - oh, that's her tongue, down there. Evie moans and presses even further towards her cunt.
"I need you-"
"Let me taste you." Mal writhes as she presses the flat of her tongue against her. She's be embarrassed but Evie is everywhere, everything. Moans against her skin.
Evie grips her cock in one hand. Then she tries to get it in. Misses a few times and Mal almost swears she could cry but then she's in and suddenly it feels so good. Evie is on top of her, caging her, pressing down in a way that finally makes her feel like she's not slipping out of her own skin.
She's in her face, her cock rocking back and forth, in and out, their breath making a space between. She huffs and groans and Mal can't help but do the same, tilting her hips into the cradle of Evie's thighs.
"You, oh-" Evie moans, and Mal can't help but agree. She wraps her thighs around her, her calves around her calves, twining around each joint as provided access. Evie is buried within her, hard and hot and ready. She lifts her hand to Evie's cheek-
Evie flips her then. Puts an arm around her collarbone and moves her just the way she wants. She's got her face buried in her shoulder and through the haze Mal can tell that she's looking for something, trying to make her do something. It's some kind of instinct, the way they rut against each other. Mal yelps as Evie pushes through her folds, slippery thrusts failing to make purchase. Then she finds it, that angle, and thrusts in a few times so hard that it brings tears to the corners of Mal's eyes.
"Please," she whines, "Please, please, please."
Can Evie even hear her now? She's gasping, hard, lungs screaming at every swell and twist between them.
Oh, there's no air, but not in a bad way, in a very very good way.
Evie loses it, and Mal figures she's coming but her hips jerk, shoving in harder with a final thrust and Mal can feel something inside, something stopping them from pulling apart. Something soft and impossibly hard pulling at the slick muscles between them. Those little jerks drive her over the edge again and things go hazy for a minute. She comes back to herself crushed under Evie's weight, feeling the slight rocking of her hips. The warm rush of something between them, something inside her. Evie's muttering something over and over against her shoulder ("mine"?) and when she pulls out Mal immediately curls up. Evie's warm when she covers her.
"That was..."
"Did it work?"
It did, kind of. Things are still simmering under the surface, but she can finally think clearly. She's kind of sore now, but in a good way. When she moves to sit up, she winces at a pulled muscle and Evie is there, immediately, face looming large in Mal's vision, eyes alert. She blinks her way out of it, like she's not quite sure what she's doing.
Then she figures it out. They both do. A firm hand presses Mal's shoulders back onto the bed and Mal goes pliantly along underneath.
"Mine."
