It's quiet as the sun creeps in through the window, morning light bleeds out on the wooden floor when Kenma shuffles along the corridor, on his way to the kitchen. Kenma managed to sleep the whole night, unlike other times when he would wake up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, or wouldn’t sleep at all, but sleep clings to him and won’t let go, keeping him slow paced and droopy eyed.

Tetsurou’s been long awake, he washed first and he’s now busy with making breakfast as he talks to their cat, Sushi, in a hushed voice. Kenma approaches his boyfriend, stopping to pick up the orange-white tabby cat, and leans on his back for a while as Tetsurou cooks. He stares silently while petting Sushi’s fur and Tetsurou gets their breakfast done quickly.

Kenma grabs the plates and Tetsurou smiles at him. They sit on the table to eat and Sushi lays on her stomach under an unoccupied chair. Kenma crosses his ankles over Tetsurou’s and proceeds to eat his breakfast, his sleepiness slowly slips away.

Tetsurou watches Kenma eat french toasts with butter and drink from his cup of coffee, the corners of his lips lifting on their own, the smile feels so natural he doesn't notice it. Kenma does, though, and he wrinkles his nose at him, muttering a soft “ gross ” before Tetsurou presses his silly smile to his mouth.

His kiss tastes of black coffee, the second too; he wouldn’t know about the third, it lands on his left cheek.

Soon after they finish their breakfast, Tetsurou gathers his things and he’s just saying goodbye to Sushi while he puts on his shoes when Kenma walks over, still wearing his pajamas. He stands on the step of the genkan thus he’s a little taller. Tetsurou grins at him and kisses him for the last time before leaving for work.

The front door opens and closes, the click of the lock almost echoes in the silence. Kenma takes off his shoes, then his jacket and sighs heavily. He’s exhausted. He drags himself to the bathroom to wash up and eat something after, Kenma’s not that hungry but he wouldn’t hear the end of it if he didn’t eat all of his meals.

There’s a new project they’ve been developing at his company and he'd been working hard and unceasingly for the past two weeks. Having to deal with people, on top of all the work, drained him out. But he doesn’t have to worry anymore, he’s all ready and done, the workers at the company can carry on with the project and he is finally free to rest.

Oh, but he’s just so, so tired, he almost falls asleep once in the bathroom and stares begrudgingly at the dirty dish water filling up the kitchen sink, he doesn’t want to move an inch anymore. Suddenly, a pair of hands hold him gently and he lets himself be manhandled, one moment he’s walking out of the kitchen and the next he’s drawn into Tetsurou’s arms, the man’s hand moves his head to rest it against his shoulder, sitting on the couch with some movie playing on the tv.

He forgets about everything and hugs Tetsurou’s middle.

They enjoy a lazy night together, work and chores sent into oblivion, the world narrowed down to the spot on the couch they were sitting on, to their embrace.

Tetsurou only moves to wrap a blanket around Kenma, then he settles back into the couch with a sigh, hugging his boyfriend closer to him; he cards his fingers through Kenma's long hair, leaving an occasional kiss at the top of his head. He lavishes Kenma with affection and care until he falls asleep to the sound of his heartbeat, feeling at ease.

Every so often, Tetsurou would leave for a few days because of work. More distant places, nearby places, it made almost no difference to Kenma since they both mean not having the man around. Tetsurou would always ask him if he’d miss him lots, jokingly, to which Kenma would reply with an annoyed stare and a negative, albeit false, answer.

In reality, he does miss him. Sometimes he misses him so much it aches. Tetsurou’s presence in his life is something he treasures deeply, even if he doesn’t find a more open way to express it, so not having him at home is a stark contrast to the way Kenma likes things to be.

That being so, Kenma loves it when Tetsurou comes back home, because Tetsurou misses him just as much as Kenma does. Tetsurou won’t stop reminding him so as he hugs him tightly, showers him with kisses all over his face, holds onto his body like it's the first time, hands creeping under the shirt Kenma borrowed from his side of the closet, fingertips brush his skin and move to his back to press him closer to his body. Tetsurou drags his lips along Kenma’s jaw and stays on the plane of his neck, kissing, sucking and nipping at his flesh.

Tetsurou takes his time to wordlessly communicate his feelings to Kenma. In between sighs and ragged breathing his lips draw love on the smaller’s skin, worshipping touches elicit strangled responses, the drumming beat of their hearts quickening simultaneously.

He takes him up high and higher until he comes back down to him.

And they’re together again.

Rain falls heavily outside, it pours all over the city, like the ocean and the sky had changed places. Dark blue-gray thundering clouds roll across the extension of the sky, swallowing the stars and owning the night. Temperature drops considerably but there’s still warmth left inside their home. Kenma and Tetsurou are sitting on the couch, bored to death, with nothing interesting to do, nothing good to watch, absolutely nothing going on but a tedious night.

Kenma had pulled out his Nintendo Switch a while back, entertaining himself with a quest of his game, leaving Tetsurou to get even more bored on his own. A tiny mew caught Tetsurou’s attention, Sushi sat at his feet and rubbed her head against his calf.

Kenma’s attention is locked on his game when he feels his boyfriend get up, soft music starts playing and it clashes slightly with his game’s soundtrack. His eyes dart up and back to his game, but he needs to do a double take when he sees Tetsurou had picked up Sushi to hold her as he dances with her. She looks happy, though. Amusement bubbles in Kenma’s chest like fizzy soda at the sight of them, a smile forms in his lips.

Tetsurou looks at him and grins like a fool. He dances with Sushi for another two songs before he puts her down. He approaches Kenma, still dancing, and grabs his hands to make him stand. Kenma complains and groans, he’s not good at dancing but Tetsurou doesn’t care. He pulls Kenma close and moves them along to the music, slowly at first, before spinning Kenma around and pretending to be dancing some intricate tango choreography only to make him laugh.

He succeeds.

Tetsurou relishes in the moment, watching Kenma laugh with his cheeks flushed pink, both from embarrassment and fluster, his insides tickling with the brush of a million butterflies fluttering around in his stomach.

He holds him again, slow dancing with him.

The rain outside keeps falling down, they keep dancing inside, the music drowns out the rumbling of thunder, love hinders the cold from outside from finding its way in through the gaps under the doors.

Sushi lays on her stomach on the couch next to the forgotten Nintendo Switch, the screen shows a paused game before it turns off. Light laughter echoes in the room as the song changes again.
