Work Text:

his porcelain skin scintillated in the pale moonlight, feet tapping against the white and grey pebbles alluding to the ever-growing restlessness coursing through his veins, while the huge sealed doors welcomed him. you hurried to open the front door of the house as soon as the bell rang. it was a big mansion and if an outsider saw it, they'd definitely think it of a castle where kings lived with their so-called family and ruled over the territory, the kingdom.

however, this man, william james moriarty, who was solely devoted to his so-called horrific duty of being a crime consultant, didn't want any maids around due to his corrupted profession, and his name alone was enough to raise goosebumps on your flesh. nevertheless when you stood in front of him, the heat you were feeling from the run, faded at the very sight of him.

to your surprise, he didn't snap that night and it was so unusual that you had an eerie feeling of something major would happen later as time would pass by. seeing you lost in thought, he chuckled bursting your bubble as your eyes landed on his face, questions darting from them.

furrowing his brows, william's lips twitched into a wry smile which scared you to the core, "will you let me in now or will you stare at me here all night?"

his voice was calm and collected like he usually used to be, nevertheless, you could sense the vexation in his tone; as if staying with him for five years was now paying off. breaking out of your reverie you stepped aside and let him in before shutting the door.

his long strides took him away from you with each passing second as you struggled to catch up with him when he looked back smirking, "are you gonna take all night to come in? i'm hungry."

the commanding tone of his voice left you speechless for a moment as you hummed shortly after, feet hurriedly followed him to the living room. it definitely had been five years since you were married to each other, yet the distance between two hearts didn't budge a little.

you couldn't change for good, no matter how much you tried you always found yourself digging deeper and deeper into his love which was nothing better than getting intoxicated to death. the more you tried to sweeten your relationship the bitter it became with time. maybe love wasn't what he needed, as if you weren't what he wanted.

the five years younger self of you was as naive as the one in present date, who didn't flinch or think twice when your rich father decided to marry you off with william. his name had a nice ring to it and from the day you saw his face you couldn't want anything more. his smile, his eyes, his voice, even the way he stroked his hair off of his face when they interfered with your eye contact captivated you, held you spellbound. he surely was an art of work that attracted attention and commendation and you weren't any exception to that law.

the least you knew about his past and the kind of job he did, what changed him into someone he wasn't, someone darker than the mathematics prodigy who was a professor in the dunham university. it wasn't that easy to find out anything about him since either he was always sweet around you or he was busy with his university works, until the day albert and louis came to meet william with another person, saying that he wanted to meet some crime consultant and things hadn't been the same from that time.

you should've taken the hints but it was too late. you never stopped wondering why they didn't try to hide it from you since you definitely would question them about it. well, leaving him was never an option and he planned it thoroughly.

"you thought you could leave me and you'll still be alive", he sneered, "think something better, y/n.."

saying that he patted your head, a smile so kindly played on his lips as if he didn't utter something cruel and dangerous just a second ago. so that was it — you were married to a dangerous, toxic, and dangerously toxic man, losing your power to anything and everything around him.

your walking came to a halt as his voice reached your ears, rasp and coarse, scarlet orbs staring at yours, burning holes in your soul.

"what's the matter? is there something i can do to help you relax?", he raised a brow at you, as your limp figure stood at the doorframe. taking two or three steps he was right in front of you, frown plastered on his face, he reached for you, landing a finger or two over your cold skin, caressing it with his thumb. his calloused fingers rough against your skin but at least his touch was warm, even though his eyes were ice-cold devoid of affection, as always.

a wave of frisson went through your body like electricity as you shook your head, slowly moving away from his touch which caused him to let out a chuckle with a shrug.

"your dinner—"

"ahh, yes, thank you, y/n", settling down on the chair he waited for you to bring the food to the table, not bothering to ask you if you had eaten or not. it didn't matter to him and you were well aware of the situation.

it was your favorite food for dinner, since you were craving it, well william didn't know anything about you, what you liked, your favorite food, how much you adored the cologne he used on his suits and the way the corners of his lips bent when he smiled, and him. with a sigh you set the bowl down, filled with (fav. food).

william didn't forget to flash a smile, which represented gratitude in the least, as he stuffed his mouth with spoonful of (fav. food), savoring the delicacy. he was done eating faster than usual, his fingers gracefully placed the knife and fork on either side of the plate as you looked at his face waiting for a reaction while he wore an unreadable expression, wiping his lips with a clean tissue.

william looked up at you standing like a statue. with a smile he stood up.

"how do you manage to cook something so horrible like this?"

how can you say something so horrible while still smiling?

of course, you didn't tell him that on his face, you wouldn't dare to. your eyes lowered apologetically as you saw him near you and in a blink of an eye he had grabbed your wrist, pulling you through the corridors to finally desist in the bedroom, you two shared, only when he felt like it, otherwise you slept alone.

"looks like someone needs to learn a lesson", his voice didn't raise, it was just as equanimous as he sounded most of the time and that's what you found more terrifying. you gulped looking down, trembling lips finding words to defend your own self.

"i'm sorry, william, i'll try harder next time."

"you should—", his voice sounded heavy, filled with a sudden surge of rage as if something was majorly wrong with his terrible occupation. his grip grew tighter on your wrist as he clenched his fist, teeth gritting, leaving blemishes on the spot.

"liam, you're hurting me", you muttered, voice meek as the male stared at you.

"i guess i am", his crimson eyes were blazing with fire as he pushed you down on the edge of the bed, his lean figure hovering over yours, ignoring your pleading eyes to let go.

all you could see a beast, with no sense of morality, who has lost his sanity and who has have zero self-control; it was only when he was with you he was obliged to question his own deeds, when he felt guilt, sorrow, grief, regret and this weird sensation which made him strangely peaceful around you, and this one exception troubled him. to him you were just an obstacle, a hindrance to his heartless actions and to return the feelings all he could do was to hurt you, break you to your core, be more selfish than ever.

he leaned in closer until your head touched the bed sheet, shoulder tensed, you saw him incline over you slowly although his moves weren't particularly gentle. you almost held on your breath to suppress a whimper and within a second your head went dizzy at the tingling sensation when his lips crashed on yours, roughly sucking on your bottom lip, and soon his tongue pushed past your mouth entangled with yours and you let him. justifying his every action with your love, you let him use you, if that's how he stayed with you, you'd let him, even when it was wrong — you were contradicting yourself each and every second to be with him.

your arms looped around his neck while your fingers combed through his smooth strands as if yellow gold slipped through your digits and the moment you started to get the hang of it, he pulled away, almost breathless. hot breath caressing your skin he stared at your face, and at times like this, you felt like he had affection and fondness for you too which he had locked away deep into his heart.

"did you really marry me for the wealth? like you always mention.."

"do you still have any doubt?"

you stayed laying there, back pressed on the mattress, a paralyzing numbness spread over your whole body. william abruptly looked away when he felt an intent glare coming his way from you and before he left the room again, he shot one last look at you, which soon followed from your face to your abdomen as he rolled his eyes before muttering. his eyes glistened with unknown emotions, bringing tears to your eyes, unbeknownst of the cause.

"take care of yourself, i don't want her to suffer because of you."
