every letter is an ode to you

Summary:

Love is an unquantifiable thing. Cannot be measured. If you asked Arthit the question of what love is, he would say that love sneaks up on you when you least expect it. He would explain how love makes you fearless and honest. Love is two people that understand each other. But if you were to ask Kongpob to explain love in all its splendor, he would answer "Arthit". Short and simple and encompassing of everything that love is and forever will be.

Kongpob and Arthit have an alphabet of love stored between them.

KongArt Week 2021 Day Seven
Prompt: Love Letters

The biggest thank you to @QueenyClairey for helping me get through my writer's block. You're the best!

Work Text:

A is for Apartment

The day that Arthit asked Kongpob to move in with him, he was a nervous wreck. He fretted and overwrought himself thinking of the perfect way to tell the love of his life. He didn't need to worry though because the exuberance on Kongpob's face as he palmed the key into his hand, more than any of the words that were uttered, spoke volumes.

---

B is for Bruises

Crescent-shaped bites on Kongpob's shoulder and purpling bruises, finger mottled indentations left on Arthit's hips and inner thighs. Night after night of passion coloring their anatomies, physical reminders of love tattooed across their bodies.

---

C is for Cooking

Kongpob spent years perfecting the omelets he made Arthit (the only dish he had mastery over) because Arthit had told him he liked it once. Arthit spent every other night enjoying being able to cook for his lover. The plate was eaten clean every single time.

---

D is for Deadlines

They kept a cork board at the corner of the room, right above where the desk was, and on it a calendar was neatly tacked on. Each day had Kongpob's meticulous writing, notating different celebrations and dates and deadlines for work. Post-it notes plastered on especially important days, a little squiggle of a heart drawn underneath his note.

---

E is for Eclipses

Arthit once promised Kongpob a day at the planetarium. They spent their date learning about the stars and the moon and the sun, but nothing was grander than their hands subtly brushing against each other as they walked through the observation tower, mapping out the constellations high above them.

---

F is for Frame

Arthit wasn't one for personal items at work. Neat, organized, clean. However, after Kongpob returned from his study abroad in China, a new item found its way to his workspace. There stood a picture of Kongpob, in graduation attire, smiling broadly and clutching a bouquet of flowers given to him by his loving boyfriend. His co-workers never stopped teasing him about the uncharacteristic addition.

---

G is for Guitar

Arthit's instrument of choice was a guitar, and he would strum it to the tune of his undying devotion to his one true love. Kongpob stared in wonder at the music notes that danced and hummed across Arthit's eyes. He'd never heard a sweeter sound.

---

H is for Housechores

If left to his own devices, Arthit would forget to iron his shirts and put away his pants properly. Kongpob happily took over the laundry, patiently folding each article of clothing, taking care to smooth each crease. He started this habit long before they even started dating, and he's never stopped since.

---

I is for Invitations

Arthit and Kongpob once talked about their dream wedding. They argued about where they should have it, how many guests to invite, and all the other minute details of what they wanted out of their wedding. When it came to the invitations, they made a list of everyone they knew; they still disagreed on who to RSVP but they both emphatically agreed that John was off the guest list.

---

J is for Jawline

A strong perfect jaw brushing up, going higher, pressing against pert cheeks, nestling in between them.

---

K is for KFC

For an entire month, Arthit was obsessed with fried chicken. He craved it everyday. Kongpob, being the good boyfriend that he was, brought a different item home from the menu for Arthit to have for dinner. They went through the entire specials board and by the end of it they had sworn off chicken. It took them months before they could look at poultry again.

---

L is for Losing

Kongpob has always won everything he set his mind to. The best thing he ever got from winning a challenge was Arthit's heart.

---

M is for Mask

Stepping foot outside of the house meant wearing a mask-- a mask for health and safety, a mask to don in front of their coworkers, a mask to parade in front of their friends. The amount of masks they wore everyday was endless. When they came back home, they could take off all the armor and let their guards down. They never had to put a face on when it was just the two of them. They could be themselves and that was enough.

---

N is for Next

Arthit was waiting in line, when it hit him. The stark realization that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Kongpob. Lost in his thoughts, he didn't hear the cashier calling him up to the register. It took three tries and a tap from the person behind him to startle him from his reverie. He was thoroughly embarrassed as he walked up to the clerk, sheepishly smiling and placing his items on the counter to be scanned.

---

O is for Oranges

Kongpob smiles to himself everytime he passes the oranges in the supermarket.

---

P is for Post

Arthit isn't one for social media, never has been. It came as a shock to all his friends and family to see a post on his Instagram one day. There were no recognizable faces nor any discerning features. Just a photo of two hands, one reaching out and the other holding on. Two watches, two rings.

---

Q is for Quarrels

Even when one of them storms out, fuming with anger and hurt and vicious words biting at their tongues, verbal knives clenched through gritted teeth, they find a way to love the worst parts of each other. Those are the hardest nights.

---

R is for Ride

A cab ride gives Arthit an excuse to rest his head on Kongpob's shoulder. It feels like being able to breathe out and relax. It feels like coming home.

---

S is for Suits

Arthit loves seeing Kongpob all dressed up in his sleek, stylish, fitted suit just as much as he loves seeing his boyfriend out of it. He can't decide what he likes more.

---

T is for Toothpaste

Arthit is a particular person, set in his ways and his peculiarities. He likes routine, using the same things, keeping the same pace. The pen that he uses is the same one he has used since elementary school. He likes to buy his groceries from the same stores, see the same vendors day in and day out. It stands to reason the toothpaste that he uses is the same too. When it's Kongpob's turn to go shopping, he makes sure to buy Arthit's favorite brand.

---

U is for Umbrella

Kongpob loved the rain. He loved that it meant that he was shoulder-to-shoulder pressed against his senior, emanating warmth where they touched, huddling under the clear dome umbrella to stay dry from the pouring rain.

---

V is for Vice

Kongpob has a weakness for Arthit that he never wants to quit.

---

W is for WiFi

The password is "A1o0n".

---

X is for Xerox

Arthit gets a certain thrill every time he has to go to the copy room. He remembers the rare occasions when Kongpob and him were feeling particularly frisky. He remembers keeping one eye on the door as they devoured each other. He remembers impatient touches. He remembers starved kisses. He remembers the excitement and fear of being caught at any moment. The thought leaves him hot and bothered. He has to adjust his pants whenever he walks away from the fax machine.

---

Y is for Yellow

Kongpob loved it when Arthit wore his hoodie. It was the color of sunshine and warmth and love, golden hues wrapping his Ai'Oon.

---

Z is for Zipper

The sound of Arthit's pants being unzipped fills Kongpob with a longing that unfurls in his stomach, a wave of giddy anticipation washing over him, his heart pounding with a deep, feral need to possess and own and pleasure. The want that Arthit feels mirrors Kongpob's, and he makes the effort to slide the zipper down ever slower.
