Wouldn't It Be Nice

Summary:

You have been on your own for a long time. Growing up, no one believed you when you said something bad was going to happen. Your parents had beat the thought of telling the truth out of you. They said "it wasn't normal. Devil like." You had gotten used to keeping to yourself and out of sight of any who would harm you. But this time, when you see a vision of a child, you can't drop it. You cross paths with the some of the very people you'd been avoiding.

Chapter Text

Chapter 1

You sat up in bed gasping, hands fisting in the sheets as you tried to get your bearings. You immediately reach to your right where your dog is watching you, head tilted and whining.

"Hey Lobo." You scratch behind his ear and the German Shepard groaned, pushing his head further into your hand, grounding you. "Haven't had one of those in awhile."

You can still see the young girls wide, scared eyes in your dreams. The shadow you saw was going to hurt her. You could feel it. You had been seeing visions like this since you were small. The first time you said something to you mother, she berated you for speaking of something so ghastly. You shook your head willing the memories away. The eyes haunted you, you saw in them the same fear you had growing up. You hadn't had anyone to help you. You would help her.

Closing your eyes you focus on your center, calming your mind and willing the vision to come again. As the images of the brown haired, brown eyed little girl played through your head again, you made yourself focus on the surroundings and gasped when you saw the pavilion out the small window. The same one you drove passed every day. You knew where she was.

Lobo followed you around as you began collecting things around your room. "I'll be back boy, its okay."

You didn't have a whole lot of experience with fighting, just a few self defense classes over the years at the Y. But you did have an unregistered hand gun in your closet, you could shoot. You threw the gun into the bag and changed quickly. Jumping in your car, you headed to the area you saw. There was an old white house on the corner that was at the correct angle for your vision.

You parked down the road from the house and quietly snuck towards the small window you were sure lead to a basement. Peaking in, you saw the little bundle curled up in the corner shaking. She was alone for now, but you knew you'd have to move fast. You softly tapped on the window to get her attention, eyes watching the light at the top of the stairs you saw against the left wall. Tapping again you held your finger in front your mouth as the little girls head whipped up, willing her to remain quiet. She nodded and quietly made her way towards the window as you worked on unscrewing the latches. You both froze when you heard a loud bang from the upper floor. You moved quickly, getting the last screw off and removing the window. As you grabbed the girls hand and started to pull her up, the light at the top of the stairs flipped on. You tensed and pulled with all the strength you had and cleared her feet just as you both hear a loud yell. "Hey"!

You pulled the girl to her feet and pulled her behind you as you fled into the trees surrounding the area, hoping to find a place to hide. You could hear the heavy footfalls pursuing you and pushed harder, trying to keep tears from falling. What had you been thinking. Your efforts were useless.

The little girl tripped and you both landed hard, the air leaving your lungs. "Its okay." you gasped, trying to reassure the little girl crying next to you. You pushed yourself up pulling your gun from your bag and planting your feet as firmly as possible in front of the kid.

"Just stay behind me okay, Kid."  you throw over your shoulder, seeing her small nod from the corner of your eye. You looked straight ahead and watched as a shadow stalked towards you.

"I don't know how you knew I had her, or who you work for, but little girl, did you make a mistake." He chuckled darkly. Before you could blink, he pulled the trigger and you screamed as a searing pain traveled from your thigh up your body. You fell to the ground, one hand reaching for your thigh and the other pulling you back to the sobbing girl behind you.

You wrapped your body around her, hoping to shield her from anything the man did. You looked up and watched as the gun was pointed at your head and then dipped down whispering to the girl that it would be okay and to close her eyes. You held your breath and flinched as you heard the shot, followed by a metallic clang. When you didn't feel any pain, you looked up slowly and saw the metal palm in front of you that had deflected the bullet. The Winter Solider! Holy Shit.

Glancing around you saw the man with the gun, knocked flat on his back and Captain America standing above him, glaring down at him, almost daring him to move.

"Lila!" you hard a voice call out from behind you. "Lila, baby?!" he ran towards the girl next you wrapping her in a tight embrace as the both cried. You recognized him from the posters of the Avengers you had seen around the city. Hawkeye!

"Daddy!" She girl cried as Clint rocked her back and forth. Holy crap, I was helping an Avengers kid! So much for staying under the radar.

Ever since DC and the Shield leak, you knew, in the wrong hands, you could be dangerous.

Hearing movement behind you, you turned and froze at the several pairs of eyes on you. Two agents had secured the treat and were loading him into a truck. As the Captain took a step towards you, you cowered away from the group, whimpering as pain shot up your leg, Your vision blurring around the edges.

"She saved me Dad." Lila whispered glancing toward you. Captain America held his hands up and walked slowly towards you. "You're safe. We just want to help ma'am."

You shook your head, you had to get away, you'd couldn't let them get you, you couldn't let them know. Why was it getting so hard to breath

The world went on its side but something braced your fall. As the world went dark you heard a voice call out. "Not so fast sweetheart, gotta keep those pretty eyes open."

Your eyes fluttered one last time and you saw pale blue looking down at you, before succumbing to the darkness.
