Chapter Text
I'm going back to 505. In my imagination, you're waiting lying on your side with your hands between your thighs. My darling, what did you expect? I'd probably still adore you, with your hands around my neck. Or I did last time I checked.
Nikolai felt his chest tighten when he saw Zoya after so many weeks. He wasn't surprised by how much he missed her, as if she were a medication his life depended on and couldn't live without. Beautiful as she always was, in the blue uniform of the insurance company she worked for, her black hair cascading down her back and her blue eyes sparkling like rare jewels.
He moved closer, slightly unsure what he would say, knowing it wouldn't be easy.
"Zoya?"
“Good afternoon, sir.” The disdain in Zoya's words was natural. She didn't do it out of malice, but out of sheer disinterest in her own work. "How can we help you?"
Nikolai let out an embarrassed chuckle. He was hoping Zoya would jump on her neck or start screaming by the time he was gone, but she was treating him like any of the customers.
"Aren't you going to fight me?"
"We don't fight with customers, sir." She smiled. Nikolai had seen that smile a thousand times, that disinterested, slightly ironic smile that used to irritate everyone Zoya knew. ''In our company, the customer is always right.''
“Okay, Zoya, I get it.” He sat in the chair at Zoya's desk. “You're mad that I went away after we had a fight, right? You can stop now...''
"I don't understand." Zoya arched an eyebrow and leaned back against her chair. “Listen, if you're going to start harassing me, I'm calling security. Either buy the package or leave.''
''I don't...''
''Zoya!'' Nikolai jumped in his chair when he heard a male voice behind him. Before he had time to turn around, he saw a boy his own age cross Zoya's desk and place a kiss on her lips. A nice big kiss, like he wasn't even there. "I've been waiting for you for thirty minutes! Your lunch break hasn't started yet?''
"I was going to, but this gentleman arrived and I needed to see him." Zoya looked back at him suspiciously. ''If you decide to buy the package, leave your personal details in the brochure and the company will contact you within a few days. If you'll excuse me.'' She made a false reference as she rose. ''I'm leaving for lunch.''
When Nikolai got back to the car, he found he was in shock. And when he started to think about what had happened, the way Zoya treated him and how she dared kiss another man in front of him, tears started to roll down his cheeks. He didn't understand why he was crying when he felt so much anger inside him.
“We did had a big fight before I left, and I was too pissed off to go back and talk to her, but I don't think it's enough for her to start ignoring me and even worse, hooking up with another guy while still have a relationship with me!...''
Nikolai paced inside the apartment of his friends, Genya and David. He ran a hand through his blond hair in exasperation, trying desperately to understand what had just happened at the company Zoya worked for.
"You know Zoya better than anyone..." Genya commented, sighing. She was sitting on the couch next to David while Nikolai remained standing indignantly. “She's angry and impulsive.''
"I know, but she's not mean! She wouldn't betray me, by the saints, to prove anything!''
“Oh, you know what?'' David suddenly lifted himself off the couch and walked to the living room closet.
"David," Genya called, in a warning tone, but David just ignored her. - Do not do this. It is not...
"Do you have a better solution?" David asked from under his glasses. "If we leave him like this, he won't be able to move on."
David held out a small brown card in Nikolai's direction.
When Nikolai took the card in his hands, the stream of tears began to flow again.
''This card is proof that Zoya Nazyalensky has accepted the procedure to forget about Nikolai Lantsov.''
