Chapter Text

Memories play in his mind. Rewind. Play back. Like only knowing one line of lyrics to a song stuck in your head, like fast forwarding a VCR tape. Everything else is fuzzy. He can close his eyes but that doesn’t help. Then he’s just more alone with himself.

Flashes. Stills of people with fear in their eyes, blood on their skin.

When Kline walks in, Bucky doesn’t acknowledge him. He’s pretty sure his first name is Robert. He might be the lawyer. Or just another exec. Bucky can’t remember. And it just doesn’t seem that important.

Kline is with someone and he can’t remember her name either. The headache starts right then.

“He’s been like this for—Bucky, how long you been like this?” Kline gently slaps his hand against Bucky’s shoulder and the Winter Soldier flinches. Kline gives him a pathetic look and a sigh. “Steve can’t babysit him. He needs—”

“Help.”

“Something. Who’s that lady Dex uses? Get her. I want her on 16-hour shifts the first three days and then we’ll see what the fuck happens.”

Bucky’s listening. He hears it. They’re deciding things for him. He just finds it hard to care.
