Work Text:
Nanami’s favourite drink is iced americano. Plain, bitter, tastes like medicine-americano. And Gojo, for the life of him, couldn’t understand how one human could consume such monstrosity. Now, Gojo is faced with monstrous creatures everyday, but he still thinks that drinking americano is worse.
But Gojo loves Nanami. Even if he has to wake up every morning with the smell of hot coffee brewing in his kitchen. He loves Nanami so much he learns to make said cursed drink. He loves Nanami so much he starts drinking coffee too, the sweet one though.
Caramel macchiato.
That is their compromised drink. Gojo learns to drink coffee and still gets the sweetness he always loved. Nanami learns to drink something sweet and still gets the bitterness from the coffee he loves.
It was like Nanami and Gojo both mixed up in a drink. You’ll get something bitter, yet sweet. Something good. Something addicting. Just like them. Good for each other, addicted to each other.
Caramel macchiato became their favourite drink when they went out on a date with the little free time they have as sorcerers. Gojo’s favourite was the one the cafe near their apartment made. Nanami’s favourite was the one the coffee shop near the Jujutsu High made.
There was a week where both of them were extremely busy. They barely have time to sit down and have breakfast together. Always running to new cases. Giving quick kisses at the front door before the other has to rush to work and the other trying to catch some more sleep after going home at 5 in the morning.
Sometimes that week, Gojo got Nanami all pressed up against his side, fast asleep after another long day at work that required him for overtime. Gojo’s fingers are buried in Nanami’s hair, slowly massaging his scalp. Gojo’s infinity is off whenever he’s within the safe walls of their home with Nanami. Letting Nanami’s hand wander on his body. Skins are always touching because Nanami always found a way to be near Gojo.
When his infinity is down, Gojo could always feel Nanami everywhere. A hand on his shoulder while they're watching tv. A palm on the small of his back. Arms touching. Skin on skin whenever they can.
Gojo clicked on a video tutorial on how to make a caramel with three ingredients only. Sugar, butter and milk. They have that. Now, Gojo knows he should at least wait for tomorrow to make it. It was literally almost 3 in the morning. But there's just something about watching a cooking video that makes Gojo always want to try right away. And he wanted to surprise Nanami in the morning with a caramel macchiato.
So, half conscious Gojo pulled himself away from the warmth of his boyfriend and dragged himself to their kitchen. Leaving Nanami grunting in his sleep and burying his face on Gojo's pillow. Unconsciously looking for Gojo.
Gojo turns on the kitchen lamp and grabs a saucepan to start making a caramel. Now, Gojo will realize his mistake later on but the mistake is that he underestimated his drowsiness. While waiting for the sugar to dissolve and turn brown, Gojo takes a seat on their kitchen stool and lays his head on the counter. He was not gonna close his eyes.
Because Gojo knows sugar burns easily. And it’ll be a mess if he accidentally closes his eyes. He’s the strongest sorcerer in the jujutsu world after all. He’s not gonna lose a fight with sleep.
But he did.

The first thing Nanami realizes when he wakes up is that Gojo is not by his side. And it’s cold, sleeping alone in their bed. Nanami hates that.
Second, is that it’s still dark outside.
Third, something is burning.
Nanami quickly rises up with high alerts. Eyes darting around the bedroom until it lands on their open bedroom door where he can see smoke lightly fogging up the kitchen. Nanami yanks open the blanket and runs to the kitchen. Heartbeat beating fast thinking of the worst case scenario.
There’s no way they’re under attack right? Not with both him and Gojo putting up-
Satoru.
Nanami’s heart beats so fast as he inspect the kitchen and notices the smoke is coming from the pan on the stove. He quickly turns off the stove and puts it on the sink. He starts fanning the smoke away with a napkin on their kitchen table.
Where Gojo is fast asleep.
“Satoru” Nanami says as he walks to the window to open it and let the smoke out.
When he turns around, Gojo is still sleeping on the kitchen table. Nanami could only sigh as he approached his boyfriend. The smoke is starting to clear out and Nanami could see Gojo’s face more clearly.
Nanami wants to be angry if it’s not because of the tired face Gojo is sporting even in his sleep. Nanami sighs again and reaches out his hand to brush Gojo’s hair off of his forehead.
“Satoru”
Nanami kneels in front of him as Gojo slowly opens his eyes.
“You sleep like the dead,” Nanami says, staring into bright blue eyes.
Gojo looks around the kitchen as his senses come to him. “Oh no” is all he says when he realizes what happened.
“Yes” Nanami replied.
Gojo stands up and start rambling “I’m so sorry Kento, oh my god i wasn’t supposed to fall asleep and now i almost burned down our-”
“Hey, hey it’s okay” Nanami tried to calm Gojo down. Grabbing his arms and making him look into his eyes. “It’s okay, we’re still alive and the house is still in one piece” he runs his palm up and down Gojo’s arm “We’re okay”.
Gojo’s eyes got bigger and teary as he looked at his boyfriend comforting him. He leans down and buries his face on Nanami’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, babe” Gojo says again.
“It’s okay,” Nanami wraps his arms around the taller man and rubs his back to calm him down. “Now tell me, why are you in the kitchen in the middle of the night? Are you starving, Satoru?” Gojo pulls his head back to see Nanami’s corner lips tilt up in a side smile.
“I wanted to make caramel” Gojo pouted
“Caramel?”
“We’ve barely gone out anymore because we’re so busy. I figured, I can surprise you with a caramel macchiato tomorrow before you go to work.” Gojo explained, still pouting.
Nanami stares at him for a moment before chuckling and pulling Gojo for another hug. “You should’ve woken me up”. Gojo bury his face in Nanami’s neck and mumbled “Then it wouldn’t be a surprise, stupid”.
“Oh, i’m the stupid one now?”
“Shut up” Gojo says, pressing himself closer to Nanami, seeking for comfort as his body is shutting down again for sleep.
“That’s my line, Satoru.” Nanami pulled Gojo’s face away from his neck and cupped it in his hand. “Now come one, let’s just go back to bed okay?” Gojo nods and lets himself be led back to their bedroom.
Once in their bed, it was Gojo’s turn to cuddle up to Nanami. Throwing his legs and arm on top of his boyfriend, burying his face on the younger’s neck. Nanami pulled him closer by one hand and let his other hand brush back Gojo’s hair.
“I’m sorry, Kento”
“Stop apologizing and go to sleep”
Gojo could feel Nanami kissing his forehead before he surrendered to sleep.

The first thing Gojo realizes when he wakes up is that Nanami is not by his side. And it’s cold, sleeping alone in their bed. Gojo hates that.
Second, is that the sun is already up outside.
Third, is that the house is dead silent. Nanami has gone to work.
Gojo rose up and couldn’t hold in his disappointed sigh. Remembering last night’s accident, he put his head on his hand.
“Stupid Satoru.” He mumbled to himself.
Now not only did he fail to surprise Kento, Gojo worried him too. Way to go as the worst boyfriend ever.
Gojo went to the kitchen to clean up the mess he made last night. But he realizes that the kitchen is already spotless. Nanami must’ve cleaned it. Of course he did. Gojo felt extremely grateful but also extremely guilty. Nanami deserves someone better that won’t mess up.
Gojo was opening the fridge to get a bottle of water when he saw his coffee tumbler with a sticky note on it. He grabs it and lets the fridge door close as he goes to the kitchen counter and reads the notes.
‘Let’s have another caramel macchiato later this afternoon.’
When Gojo put down the note and brought up the bottle to drink what Nanami made him, he noticed the jar of caramel on the counter.
Smiling to himself, he goes back to the bedroom and grabs his phone. Puting the bottle down on the bedside table, he texted his boyfriend.
I’ll pick you up at 5
And Nanami,
Nanami, I love you so much.
