Chapter Text
Unfair.
So unfair.
You’d been sulking in the backseat ever since you left the house that you grew up in for your whole life for the very last time.
You were pouting as you stared out the window passing towns, forests, farmland, for probably an eternity now.
“Dad, your Alpha brat is stinkin’ up the car again.” Your brother muttered next to you, in retaliation you tried to kick him again but he just dodged your short legs by swinging his knees towards the window.
“And it’s tryin’ to kick me again.”
Your father gave a quick glance to the rear view mirror making brief eye contact with you before his attention was back on the road.
“You’re gonna have to be more specific Meguru, since you’re both back there.”
Your father gave a chuckle before your brother could respond he continued in a slightly firmer tone.
“Y/n reign in the scent, you’re nine, unless you want to be called a pup for the rest of your life?”
You glared at your brother who seemed to be overly pleased with the results as you reluctantly pulled back in your souring scent.
You stared out the window crossing your arms.
“Rei-Chan said’ pups isn’t the correct term..”
You muttered.
“Well Rei-Chan is from Tokyo, so she didn’t grow up being called a pup like you or your brother.”
You knew that, Rei-Chan was from Tokyo and she said pups was something her grandmother would say and then laughed about how embarrassing it would be to be called that.
All you could do was swallow your embarrassment for the rest of class that day not wanting her to know how often your dad called you pup.
“Well can you not call me a pup...”
You muttered, not really wanting to commit to asking the question as you turned your head into your shoulder.
Your father had looked at the mirror briefly again to see you leaning against the window with a slight frown.
“Is this you asking or are you trying to change because Rei-Chan was picking on you again.”
You huffed and stared forward.
“Rei-Chan is my friend she wasn’t picking on me.”
Your brother rolled his eyes to this, deciding to chime in even though you didn’t want him to.
“Yeah, cause friends spread rumors about each other when they fight.”
Once again you tried to kick your brother only for him to swiftly dodge.
“Rumors? What rumors Y/n?” His tone became a bit firmer.
“It’s nothin”
“Meguru?” Your father prodded your brother since he could already see you were on one of your stubborn streaks.
“Why would I know what gossip Y/n’s spreading amongst the brats?”
You raised your voice slightly.
“I never said anything, she was the one tellin’ everyone...”
Your father dropped the firmness from his voice.
“What was she saying Y/n?”
You stared down at your feet swinging them back n’ forth buying your time before you were forced to say it anyway.
“... that my mom left cause’ I was a bad kid”
You’d stuck your hands in your pockets pulling on your jacket trying to distract yourself.
“Y/n that’s not-“
“I know, she was just mad cause I was always picked first for dodgeball n’ that she wasn’t any good at it.” You muttered, a bit bitterly.
Your father sighed, hands tightening on the wheel, trying to think how to break out of this conversation yet again before you ended up closing yourself off for who knows how long this time.
Your brother knew it was his time to shine when he decided to kick you.
“Hey!!” You yelled trying to kick him back again only for him to put his knees against the window.
“You’ve been tryin’ to hit me the whole ride n’ now that you finally got a taste of your own medicine you’re complainin?”
This had started an argument between the two of you, and for once your father didn’t break it up and instead smiled at your brother through the mirror.
You arrived at your new house soon enough, it had a small backyard which both you and your brother were happy about.
“Meguru top left, Y/n top right, beds and boxes are already in your rooms so start unpacking, Meguru don’t try to scare your sister at night right now, you know how she gets in new places.”
You ran up behind your father with Meguru tailing behind you since he knew dad wasn’t done yet,
“Y/n knock on your brother’s door, and he has to actually say you can come in, you can’t just knock and walk in.”
You were setting down a black backpack in one of the dining chairs only for it to be immediately picked up again and shoved into your arms.
“Can we not start leaving things where they don’t belong immediately after moving in?”
You’d huffed and clutched your bag nodding, your father ruffling your hair into a mess.
“So meet down stairs for dinner later? Take out for tonight.”
Your brother was already heading upstairs with you trailing right behind him, your feet went left only to hear your father shout from downstairs.
“Y/n I just said the room on the right is yours”
Followed by him sighing and you changing your course.
Your room had a large window facing the backyard and another almost identical house, you peered out seeing grass which felt like a luxury since the last place you lived in was an apartment building.
You started unpacking for maybe five minutes at most before you left your room.
You knocked on his door, once, twice, three times, and then you opened it anyway.
Your brother had his back facing you as he sifted through boxes.
“Didn’t dad just say not to barge in if I don’t say you can.
“You never say I can come in”
“That’s the point.” He gave you a deadpanned stare before continuing to unpack.
“Can I borrow your volleyball?”
“Depends, do you have the currency?”
You reached into your shorts fishing out a box of pocky and throwing it to him.
“Wow, missing half the contents and melting, what a steal.”
He shook them around trying to get them to move but they were currently melted to the box which just left him looking at it disgustedly, grabbing his ball and giving it to you since he was too busy to haggle with you right now, which is why you gave him the bad box to begin with, no need to waste the good stuff.
“Thanks!”
You’d spun on your heel racing down the stairs towards the backyard but started tip toeing the second you saw your fathers back in the kitchen.
You silently shuffled past him, not making a single noise as you slid the door open, and yet-
“Fifteen minutes and then you need to actually unpack your stuff.”
You made eye contact and slumped your shoulders.
“How’d you know...”
“You’re quiet I’ll give you that, but your overconfidence stinks up the room.”
He smirked at you before unboxing the rest of the dishes.
You closed the door a bit fast but slowed it down the last second not wanting to be yelled at.
You stood on a slate patio that transitioned into the grass almost immediately.
You stepped into the grass, and while it wasn’t magically refreshing, it was still better than being in the cramped car with your brother for two hours.
At first you just sat down in the grass, crossing your legs and placing the ball between them while drumming on it, looking around the yard where there were already some potted flowers.
At some point you ended up laying on your back staring at the cloudy sky, skin having a slight itch because even though you were allergic to grass, you still sat in it as though it was defying someones will and annoying them, which you liked to do, when in reality it was just going to make sleeping tonight difficult.
You began to toss the ball in the air and catching it over n’ over, reminding you Meguru was gonna make you practice with him at home once he got on a team, which made you groan.
“D’ya play?” A sudden voice came out of nowhere causing you not catch the ball as it hit you square in the face.
You clutched the ball to your chest as you rubbed your nose and tilted your head back towards the fence where the voice was coming from.
Though he was upside down to you, a boy was peaking over the fence, barely, dark hair matched with an intense dark gaze over the fence, his eyebrows furrowed questioningly.
“No, but I know how to.” You saw him shift his arms so they were over the fence and rest his chin on them as he tilted his head, you could’ve sworn you heard groaning on the other side of the fence as he did so.
“Then why do ya have a ball?”
You’d huffed and stopped tossing it into the air, leaning your head back once again.
“My brother plays.” You muttered before going back to tossing the ball in the air.
You heard him go ‘ooooh’ and what sounded like an echo of it.
Suddenly you heard a thud and tilted your head back once more only to see the tuft of black hair gone and accompanied by a sound of muttered whispering.
Then as if he hadn’t disappeared to begin with, his head popped back over the fence once more, though his hair was parted differently.
“Does he have a team?” His voice sounded a bit different and his eyes seemed to have a sudden shine to them.
“‘Course.” You’d tossed the ball into the air once again.
But then you corrected yourself mid throw
“Well, had, he’s gonna have to sign up or something with his school since he’ll be new”
“Inarizaki??” The boy just couldn’t seem to stop quizzing you.
“Don’t know, is that round’ here?”
He nodded but seemed to be losing whatever footing he had.
“Then yeah, probably.”
You shrugged and peered back up only to see he was gone.
You’d never admit it but you were a bit disappointed he left so soon, even if you could already tell he was annoying.
You stopped tossing the ball in the air when you heard the drag of a chair, tilting your head back towards the fence and staring at it questioningly.
There was a lot of muttering and hushed yelling, and ‘mom is gonna be mad’ was definitely said.
“Had to grab a chair!”
“It was cause’ he couldn’t sit still.”
You knitted your brows when you realized it was two different voices which had you sitting up and turning around to face the fence.
All of a sudden two pairs of eyes were peering over the fence which had your own widening.
They both stared at you, seeming to wait for you to continue where you left off.
“.... there’s two of you.”
The one on the left said ‘yep’ making sure he popped the p at the end while the one on the right-
“Yeah, here’s a medal for pointing out the obvious dumb dumb.”
Had an attitude.
Now, it’s not really your fault when you think about it, his head was right there, begging to be hit while he rolled his eyes.
You’d hit your ball on his forehead which knocked him back, the other staring with wide eyes back into his own yard.
You’d expected him to get mad but he just ended up laughing at the fallen twin and giving you dramatic claps.
“I told him he’d eat his words one day with the way he talks, the grass will have ta’ do for now I guess.”
You lowered your ball as he continued talking.
“I’m Osamu n’ the ugly one is Atsumu,” he jabbed his thumb behind him
“Don’t go tellin’ that psycho our names Samu!”
Both you and the twin that was still alive and standing snorted.
You spun the ball in your hand as you and Osamu grinned at each other.
The other twin eventually got himself back up, peering over the fence with a glare that was an par with a kitten.
“Yer crazy! Could’ve killed me!”
Now it was your turn to roll your eyes.
“I’m sure that would be fine, I can already tell who’s the favorite by the way ya’ talk”
He just continued to glare, getting red in the face from either from anger or embarrassment.
You briefly glanced at Osamu before heading towards the door.
“Ya didn’t say yer name”
He called out, you turned around and looked at Atsumu, moving your arm suddenly which had him ducking his head expecting you to hit him again, making you snort.
“Y/n” you replied before shutting the door behind you.
You saw your father re-enter the kitchen
“Why were you so loud? The neighbors are gonna start hating us before we’ve been here a full day.”
You ran past him up to your stairs hoping to see the boys standing like idiots on chairs still if you were fast enough.
“Sorry! Won’t happen again! Also we got rats in our yard!”
You’d yelled which just left your father yelling
“What??”
