Work Text:

It was a warm, sunny day. Not too hot, not too humid. Just right. Yuuji took a moment to appreciate the light breeze that caressed his pink locks, infusing him with a breath of life that can only be found on the perfect spring day. He stood on a patch of grass that neatly aligned with the pavemented path he was following and decided to put down the box of materials Gojo sensei entrusted him to transport out of the classroom. He took a moment to appreciate the feathery clouds effortlessly drifting through the skies. Itadori decided he might as well lay down and breathe it all in before continuing his task. As he looked up, he spotted a cloud with a shape that was so familiar it could almost be placed. He couldn't precisely locate what it reminded him of, but he felt like it was a pleasant memory. He sat up and spotted the pieces of chalk inside one of the boxes and got an idea: he could sketch out the cloud's shape with chalk until he could remember what it reminded him of. Just as he was hunched over and focused on the task at hand, he heard a voice behind him, "umm, what do you think you're doing?" He turned around to find a mildly annoyed Kugisaki.

"Oh, that cloud looks like something, but I don't know what. So I'm drawing it to see if I can figure it out," Yuuji replied sheepishly.

"What are you? Five? Hurry up and finish carrying these boxes before we get in trouble!" Kugisaki snapped back.

"Oh, come on, it will just be a second. Come help me!"

"Help you with your little art project? No, thank you. I haven't done something like that since elementary school." She pouted while side-eying him.

"You know you want to," he responded with a teasing tone and a bright smile.

"Fine, but as soon as we figure it out, we're leaving."

Nobara deposited her load down on the grass next to Yuuji's box and took the chalk he handed her as she knelt next to him.

"It's that one, right there," Yuuji instructed distantly as he pointed up to a prominent cumulus cloud sitting in a bed of scattered cirrus clouds and other petite cumuli.

They both sat there sketching and comparing for a moment.

"That one looks like a bunny!" Kugisaki exclaimed, getting a little more into it as she sketched her own find.

"Look, I can make a better bunny!" Yuuji teased as he drew his version of her bunny.

"What are you two doing?" a familiar monotone voice came down on them. The duo looked up simultaneously to find Fushiguro hovering above them, carrying his boxes with his usual scowl.

"Hey Fushi, I found a cloud with a familiar shape and wanted to figure out what it was, so we're sketching it out until we figure it out. Come help us!" Yuuji eagerly said.

"You're joking, right?"

"Oh, just come down here, you big grump. The faster this idiot figures out what he's looking for, the faster we can finish." Kugisaki grunted while handing him a piece of chalk. He could tell she was secretly enjoying it.

Megumi sighed in defeat and set his stuff down. He sat next to them and realized they were drawing all sorts of pictures. He started jokingly adding to Yuuji's drawings instead of helping, which was met with a hearty laugh from Yuuji and Nobara. After that, they all seemed to forget about the task at hand and started out-doing each other's artwork. Fushiguro was surprisingly skilled at drawing; his sketches overshadowed Yuuji's stick figures and Kugisaki's squiggly lines. Before they knew it, a large portion of the sidewalk was tactfully decorated with their artwork. It almost reflected the laughter and bonding that was occurring.

"Here, let me add to the demon dog you drew over there," Megumi suggested amid their laughter. Nobara and Yuuji looked at each other and yelled, "FUSHIGURO'S DEMON DOG!"

That was Yuuji's first drawing; that was what the cloud reminded him of earlier.
