Work Text:
Luz kept her pace slower than usual on her journey to school this morning. She got ready quite early today; she skipped out on breakfast and left the Owl House about forty minutes before school is supposed to begin.
She needed time to clear her mind and think things out from the events from yesterday, all before those thoughts consumed her mind during classes.
She can't guarantee that those thoughts won't occupy her mind today, so she'll have to do with the time she has now.
Was yesterday even real?! That was her first thought. It was a successful day; she found more info in the library than expected. Even got to spend the day with Amity...
Amity kissed me! That was her second thought. The highlight of her day, possibly in her entire life even.
Luz lifted her hand up to her cheek at the exact place where Amity had kissed it. She could still feel the warmth, the feeling, the same sensation when being in that moment.
It's all so surreal to her. She wasn't dreaming, was she?
I'm not dreaming, right? She pinched herself, and the pain was very much real, and honestly, she's glad it is.
Luz let out a big sigh of relief before saying, "Amity kissed me!" With great enthusiasm.
It was unexpected and sensational, so bold of Amity to make the first move; she wouldn't have had her first kiss any other way.
Could she have handled her reaction better? Probably not. She was a blushing disaster with the time spent in the library, and with the kiss, you could've put a kettle on her head to boil water with how intense her blush was.
Amity didn't take it much better either, confident at first only to rush back inside after rambling. At least she went inside before she saw her legs turn to jelly.
What did this mean for both of us now? That was her third thought.
Are we dating?! Is Amity my girlfriend?! Luz's face deepened in blush at the realization.
That kiss surely meant Amity had romantic feelings for her, too, right? And not some platonic-best-friend thing they do in the Boiling Isles. It wouldn't be the first time human actions would act differently in the Boiling Isles; the idea wasn't absurd.
Luz was confident about her feelings towards Amity and how she wanted their relationship to be more friends. Yesterday was a big step in the right direction to the progression of their relationship. Firstly with the confession in front of the library and the kiss she's been thinking about non-stop.
She'll have to discuss it with Amity on where they stand now.
Finally, Luz approached the school; she took the steps two at a time and entered the doors of Hexide. She was elated to find her friends waiting by her locker.
"Willow! Gus!" Luz exclaimed.
"Hey Luz." They both responded right before getting pulled into a tight embrace.
"Owwowo! Luz, my arm." Willow cried. Luz completely forgot about the pixie incident, which led to her sprained arm.
"Oh my gosh, Willow! I'm so sorry!" Luz withdrew her arms from her friends and inspected Willow's cast.
"Are you hurt? Is your arm gonna fall off?!"
Willow laughed, "No Luz, I'm fine, just can't move it around as much for a while."
"Anyway there shouldn't be much to worry about, you're as tough as nails, Willow." Luz shot her icon finger guns and dug into her bag to take out a marker.
"Mind if I?" Willow nodded and allowed Luz to doodle on her cast.
While drawing, Luz noticed a drawing of a flower done by Gus with two 'I'm sorries' written next to it.
There were tons of other cool drawings and some delightful messages done by other students. It's nice to see people cared about Willow.
Luz put her final touches on her cat drawing and put away the marker.
"So Luz, were you able to find what you were looking for at the library?" Willow asked.
"Yes! We found a diary of the human who used to live here on the Boiling Isles!"
"And... When you say 'we'?"
"Oh! Me and... Amity." And as hard as she tried, she failed to hide her blush at the mention of the witch. Willow caught on.
"Anything happened while you two were out?" Willow followed up.
Luz averted her gaze to conceal her blush. "I-I don't know what you mean by that."
"Luz, you're a terrible liar. Now tell me what happened."
Luz was already well aware of her terrible lying skills. It was still worth a shot to try.
With a heavy sigh and a bit of consideration, Luz confessed.
"W-well, after I got Amity fired from the library-"
"Amity got fired from the library?!" Gus interrupted, "How am I supposed to eat snacks in the Kid's corner now?!"
"Gus! Let Luz finish her story."
"I know who won't be telling me stories anymore." Gus pouted.
"Gus!"
"Alright, alright fine. Luz, continue your story."
"As I was saying. After I got Amity fired from the library, I did a couple trials to get back her job, and she... Kinda, Sorta... K-kissed me... On the cheek."
"...So Amity kissed you, you didn't kiss her?" Willow asked. Luz simply replied with a nod, too embarrassed to form a sentence.
Willow turned to Gus, "You know what that means."
"I get to eat as much chips as I want without getting kicked out?"
"Pay up."
Gus grumbled, "Dang! I was certain Luz was gonna make the first move." Gus started digging through his pockets to get his wallet.
"Wait! You guys bet on us!"
"You two took long enough for us to make a bet." Willow said.
"So does this mean..."
"We haven't confirmed anything as yet. I would love to! Just need to discuss it with Amity first."
"Good luck with that, just be respectful of her decision whether it goes both ways." Luz nodded.
Willow's gaze shifted to behind Luz, "Speaking of luck..."
Luz felt a light tap on her shoulder; she turned around and was shocked to see who it was.
It was Amity.
Amity's newly dyed hair looked just as gorgeous as yesterday, plus it matched with her uniform.
Luz froze up, admiring Amity's beauty and because of the realization that she kissed her. At that moment, all her ability to properly communicate faded away, and her face grew into a deep blush.
"Hey Amity, good friend Amity! What a surprise to see you here!" Luz let out a series of nervous laughs before doing what was first a hug, changed her mind halfway, and turned it into a handshake.
Amity's face resembled the same shade of blush as Luz and awkwardly shook her hand.
"It's nice see you too." She responded. They stood there for a while, gazing into each other's eyes, and only snapped when Willow interrupted them with a cough.
Amity then took out a marker from her bag and made her way to Willow.
"It's nice to see you Willow!" She uncapped the marker and began writing on her cast. "If I ever see those Pixies who hurt you, I'll add them to my next recipe."
"As long as it's anything besides than that pie last time." Willow teased.
Amity finished her message to 'Get well soon' and capped her pen.
Willow thanked her and turned to Gus, who's apparently still taking out his wallet.
"What's taking you so long?" No response; he kept digging in his pocket wallet.
"Torns! He tricked me." She poked the illusion, which dissipated into a blue cloud. She turned around to find the real Gus escaping from the hall.
"You'll never catch me!" He shouted.
"Gus! Come back here! You owe me twenty snails!" Willow yelled and gave chase.
Amity turned to Luz and took her hand.
"Can I talk to you about yesterday, please? Somewhere private." She asked politely.
"Uh. ..Yeah! Sure!" Luz internally screamed. Could this be the moment she was waiting for? Was Amity gonna ask her to be her girlfriend?! She could hardly contain her excitement, so she'll need to find a private place first. The last thing they wanted was to be the talk of the school.
Luckily for her and thanks to her detention track friends, there's always a private place at Hexide. The school staff never bothered to remove the hidden section of the school, so it's still of use.
Luz pulled the handle connected to the lockers behind her and swung the door open. Luz entered first and pulled Amity along. She shut the door behind her and settled beside the wall.
"The room is clear. What was you you wanted to tell m-" Without a warning, Amity leaned forward a kissed her cheek.
"I'll talk first." Amity announced, which made Luz stay quiet. Yes, there are alternative ways to do that, but Amity likes this best.
Luz would never imagine Amtiy dropping two kisses in a row like that. One more, and she might just get a heart attack. She's loving Amity's confidence lately.
"I would be lying if I said I haven't been dreaming of kissing you like that months ago. Ever since I met you, you've changed my life for the better. I'm happier than I've ever been, and simply because you're in my life Luz." Amity took both of Luz's hands.
"I do crazy things around you, for you, and honestly, I'd do anything for you, Luz." Amity paused. She didn't expect herself to get emotional in front of Luz and especially during her confession.
Luz reached out a wiped away Amity's tears with her thumb. She was crying too, but she allowed her to continue.
"In short, before I start crying a waterfall, can I be Hecate in the next reading to the kids?"
"Huh?" Did Amity really bring Luz's hopes up just to discuss Azura?
"I- I thought you were gonna ask me to be... To be your girlfriend?"
"Yes... That too. I- if you don't mind."
Luz yelled and wrapped Amity in a tight embrace."Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!"
"Luz, I-I can't breat-"
"And with that acting, of course you could be Hecate!"
"Luz!" Amity shouted with the remaining air in her throat.
"Ah! I'm sorry, Amity!" Luz unwrapped her arms from Amity, now girlfriend. She was pale in the face.
Amity fainted.
"Oh my gosh! Amity!" She wasn't THAT strong, was she? It's already been the second time today she harmed somebody with a hug. She's really gotta find another way of showing affection.
Luz knelt to the ground and put her hand to Amity's neck to check her pulse.
It was low.
She needed to do something fast before anything got too severe. Glyphs didn't have a purpose, and none of them performed healing, so that was a no.
The only thing she could think of was...
No
But it's the only way! If she learned anything by watching those terrible doctor shows back home with her mom, she knew the only answer... was CPR.
She didn't know the exact steps to CPR, only the part where it's mouth to mouth. It's still worth a shot.
The thought of kissing Amity was still in her mind, but while she's unconscious? It didn't seem right.
It's not like she had time to reconsider either.
"Don't hate me, Amity." Luz said; right before removing Amity's hair from her face and kissing her
About five seconds in, the action didn't sit right for her. Sure her lips were soft and gentle and tasted of strawberry lip balm, but it felt wrong. Not the ideal way she would've liked her actual first kiss to go.
She was about to pull off, but something felt strange. It was Amity.
Not only did she regain consciousness, she felt a movement in her lips, Amity's lips.
She was smiling. She tricked Luz.
Before Luz could pull away, Amity grabbed her waist and pulled her closer.
Now Luz actually couldn't pull away; she enjoyed being here, besides the fact that Amity tricked her. It was still a wonderful kiss nonetheless.
She's never felt this spike in adrenaline before, not the type she'd feel when getting chased by a demon, but a fierier, positive one.
Amity pulled off, finally out of breath.
"You!" Luz pouted, "You- you tricked me!"
"Yes I did."
"Why!"
"It was enough already that I said my confession. I was done having all the first moves, so I thought, why not spice it up? You should be thanking me."
"I-you-I thought you were gonna die!"
"You're welcome." Before Luz could protest, Amity grabbed her by the hand and led her to the exit of the secret room.
"Don't worry, you'll always be my fearless champion." And she pecked Luz on the cheek.
