Work Text:

The two four-year-old's were walking through the forest near their house. It wasn’t a very big forest and actually more part of a park, but to the two kids it was gigantic and they loved to explore it. Today they had actually found an ant hill on their explorations.

They were squatted down next to it, examining the ants as they walked in and out, when Midoriya said: “You think you can befriend or tame an ant? Like a dog?”

Bakugo thought himself the bestest four-year-old on the planet, so he confidently answered: “I probably could. I’d just have to get their attention first.”

“I don’t think they have ears,” Midoriya hummed thoughtfully, like he knew what he was talking about, “But you could use your quirk!”

“If they don’t have ears they can’t hear the explosion, dummy,” Bakugo said, “And they don’t have eyes either.”

“Didn’t auntie say that your sweat will be sweet like hers, because of your quirk?” Midoriya asked.

“You listened to her when she talked?” Bakugo asked in return.

“Yeah, if you sweat a bit and stick your hands near them they should come to you,” Midoriya got excited, “Kacchan, you’re probably one of the few people who can actually tame ants!”

“Of course, I’m the best, Izu,” Bakugo bragged.

It was at this point decided that the taming of ants was indeed something that was going to happen, so with all the planning that two excited four-year-old’s could manage, they got to work.

The plan was quite simple: Bakugo would make a trail towards a place where the ants wouldn’t go by themselves and get them to walk over his hand into the little box the two boys had made from leaves.

Bakugo said that just getting them somewhere would be enough, but Midoriya had argued that that was just getting the landscape right for them to go somewhere and not really taming them, so therefore wouldn’t count.

Not wanting to be seen failing by his friend, Bakugo had agreed.

So that’s where they were now. Bakugo having ran around until he sweat and now sitting on one side of the field, while Midoriya carefully followed the ants movements.

“They’re coming your way!” he exclaimed excitedly when the ants strayed from their usual path.

He followed the ants as they walked towards Bakugo, who was trying to see them, also curious if their little experiment would work.

It took a while for the ants to get there, but they got there.

When the first ant touched Bakugo, both held their breath as they watched what the little guy would do. It walked over Bakugo’s hand onto his arm, but it didn’t go down into the little box they’d built for them.
“Go in the box you dumb ant,” Bakugo frowned, trying to get the ant into the box.

The ant didn’t go in.

Bakugo shook his hand and bend his arms in weird shapes in the hope the ant would walk in the right direction, but the ant wasn’t working with him at all.

“Uhm, Kacchan?” Midoriya said softly after a minute or so.

“Not now, Izu, I almost have him.”

“Kacchan, the ants!”

Rolling his eyes, he turned to look what his friend was babbling on about and then he saw it. It looked like the entire ant hill had locked onto him as a target and an army of ants was marching his way, most already at his legs.

They crawled up his pant legs and all over his tiny arms, converging on his hands, though some took a detour to his face. He screamed and got up, trying to shake them all off, which he wasn’t very successful at.

Midoriya tried to help, but he couldn't get close to the flailing boy without getting smacked, so he ran to get his auntie, who had been reading on a park bench nearby while they explored.

“Auntie! Auntie!” he yelled, getting her attention, “We wanted to see if Kacchan could tame the ants, but they’re attacking him.”

To her credit Mitsuki got up without any questions and just followed the panicked kid. She had seen the two of them get into other situations like this because of suggestions one made.

When she got to the clearing, it was clear that Bakugo was near tears as the ants still clung to him.

She got him out of his shirt and started wiping the ants away as she told him to keep shaking his legs until she got to them.

It took a few minutes, but after a while Bakugo was ant clear and in her arms, just a bit upset and very tired. From beside her, Midoriya’s small voice came: “Sorry that I wanted to befriend the ants, I don’t think they’re very nice, or good friends.”

“Is okay, Izu,” Bakugo yawned, “I did manage to get them there.”

“You did, it was very cool!” Midoriya gushed.

“I am the coolest,” Bakugo drowsed.

“Okay, lets get you two cool kids home, I think you both can use a bit of a break,” Mitsuki smiled, she couldn't wait until she told Inko about this.

Notes:

A few people asked me what exactly was the ant incident mentioned in the fic The Fear of God... Or Auntie in this Case and I couldn't help but write it, lmao
