Work Text:

“Izuku! Can you go get my boots from the laundry room!”

The greenette laughs at the blonde from his place in the kitchen and walks to the laundry room and plucks up the black and orange boots off of the dryer. He hums as he walks them to the entryway where the blonde was fixing his signature uniform.

“Kacchan you almost forgot something else too,” says Izuku teasingly. The blonde looks at him with a raised brow before taking the boots and slipping them on.

“That is exactly what Deku,” he asks as he’s fastening the straps tight.

“I’m not gonna tell you and let you figure this one out for yourself. After all, you're the great Katsuki Bakugou. You can use your brain to figure this out,” says Izuku with a chuckle. Katsuki looks at him before picking up the hand that has one lone ring on his finger. A black band with orange gems and diamonds encrusted in it.

He kisses the ring before yanking the smaller man to him. The smirk grows on his face as his husband's face reddens into the shade of a lobster.

“Oh my little Izuku. I thought this is what you meant. What you were saying that I was forgetting. How could I forget something like this? Giving my husband just a little bit of love before I have to go save the city again,” he says.

Izuku gulps and looks up to him and smiles. “I merely meant a kiss on the lips or the cheek. I wasn’t insinuating that you bend me over on the staircase,” Izuku says with a nervous laugh.

A deep chuckle sounds from the blonde's throat. He then slowly places a kiss on each freckled cheek. Red eyes meet green and he places a deep kiss on his lips. Katsuki kisses Izuku slowly and passionately. Hands lightly roam and groans sound from both men. They both pull away breathless and a smirk finds its way on Katsuki’s face.

“Can’t keep going. I have to get to work Izuku.”

“Call me when you get there and when you’re on break.”

Katsuki chuckles and ruffles the messy hair. “Of course my love. Text me what you need from the grocery store and I’ll get it after my shift.”

Izuku nods and gives him one last hug before Katsuki leaves for his shift at the hero agency. Izuku has been given a rare day off from hero work and while his husband wanted to take it with him, he couldn’t get the agency to agree. Izuku gets some much needed housework done throughout the morning and sends the list to Katsuki like he asks. At lunch, Izuku sits down with his food and checks his phone to see that his husband still hasn’t called.

A lump forms in his throat and he starts to get nervous. It’s unlike Katsuki to do this. He’s always on top of messaging and calling when he says he will. Even on undercover missions he finds a way. Izuku tries to not think about it and chalks it up to a very busy day at work. To pass the time, he busies himself in the kitchen.

With the radio turned up, he dances and twirls around the kitchen while cleaning. Izuku doesn’t even realize when a couple hours pass. His phone starts vibrating on the counter and he picks it up seeing that it’s Kirishima. He looks at the clock and sees it’s 3:30 in the afternoon. Him and Katsuki are supposed to be out on patrols together. He hits the answer button and picks up the call.

“Hey Kirishima what’s up?”

“Izuku, where are you and what are you doing,” he asks frantically.

“I’m at home. What’s wrong Kirishima,” Izuku asks immediately, freezing as dread takes over.

“You need to head to the hospital right now. Katsuki got hurt badly,” says Kirishima.

The phone falls from Izuku’s hand and he rushes to get his coat and shoes. He grabs his phone and keys in a hurry and rushes to the hospital that Kirishima directs him to. He’s waiting at the door when Izuku gets there. His uniform is torn up and he’s clearly still scraped up.

“This way Izuku,” he says and brings him inside to the trauma unit of the hospital. A nurse sitting at the station sees them when they come in and waves them over.

“Bakugou, Izuku?”

“Yes, that's me. What happened? Where’s my husband,” Izuku asks frantically.

“The doctor will be out shortly to talk to you. He’s been taken back to surgery and the doctor will tell you the full extent of his injuries. You can sit in that room over there and he’ll be right with you,” she says and points to a private waiting room.

Izuku almost opens his mouth to demand answers, but doesn’t as it won’t help his husband and lets Kirishima guide him into the room. Kirishima is on his phone quite a bit when they get in there. Izuku assumes it’s because he’s informing his boyfriend that he’s ok.

“What happened Kiri?”
“We got a phone call that there were some kids being held hostage inside of this abandoned building on the North side of town. They called in a lot of heroes to help with the recovery of the children. The first thing Katsuki noticed when we got there was that the building looked very unstable. He had a hunch that it may have been a trap, but couldn’t ignore the possibility that children were in there,” says Kirishima.

“Yes, that's his job. What happened after that,” asks Izuku.

“They sent in a small team of heroes. That included me and Kats. We got in and everything seemed way too quiet. We got to this big room and there were dummies dressed as children in the center. Before we could think, the room exploded. Kats… he pushed me out of the way from falling debris. I still got hit by some stuff, but Katsuki took the brunt of the collapse,” says Kirishima.

Izuku gasps and stares at Kirishima in shock. This was his worst fear come to life. His husband is in the hospital. Injured enough to need surgery. What if he doesn’t make it? He shakes his head to eliminate that thought. Katsuki Bakugou is too stubborn for that. The door opens to reveal the doctor and Kaminari following in behind him.

“Izuku, I’m Dr. Yoshano. I’ll be overseeing the care of your husband while he’s here. How much have you been told,” he asks as Kaminari takes his seat next to Kirishima.

“Kirishima told me what happened at the scene. How bad is he?”

“I won’t sugar coat this for you. His injuries are pretty extensive. There’s lacerations and bruises over 90 percent of his body. There’s some burns from the explosion. The worst of his injuries are the broken bones and internal bleeding. He was pinned when they got him out of the rubble. His entire lower half was pinned beneath a large piece of concrete. Both legs were seriously broken.

“We’re doing everything we can to fix them, but can’t guarantee it. A couple of his ribs were broken or cracked and one of the pieces caused some internal bleeding. Lastly, he has a concussion from a major blow to the head. We haven’t been able to do much for testing as we had to get him to surgery right away,” says the doctor.

Izuku shakes in his chair and tears fall down his face. His friends comfort him the best they can, but nothing can fix Katsuki’s broken body.

“Is he gonna make it?”

The doctor looks at Izuku before sighing. “I can’t guarantee anything. However, he’s a very stubborn individual. I haven’t met anyone like him in all my years. I will hold out hope that he will make it until he is dead on my table,” says the doctor who puts a hand on his shoulder.

Izuku’s shoulders shake with sobs. The doctor gives Kirishima and Kaminari a look before leaving to give Izuku time to process. Izuku stops crying after a while and curls up on his chair while staring at the clock. It was now 8:45 in the evening and the doctor hadn’t returned with any news yet. Izuku shifts uncomfortably in his seat as he watches the clock. An hour later, the doctor returns.

“Ok he’s out of surgery. We’ve managed to repair all of his injuries and now it’s just time and patience for those to heal. While he was under, we did scans on his head and he doesn’t appear to have any bleeding into the brain. There is a minor amount of swelling that confirms the concussion. We’ve taken him off the anesthesia and are waiting for him to wake up. You’re welcome to come up to his room to see him if you like,” says the doctor.

Izuku nods and follows the doctor up to Katsuki’s room. The sight that greets him nearly drops him to his knees. Katsuki is there with so many tubs and wires sticking out of him. He’s wrapped heavily in bandages from his torso down. Kirishima guides him inside to a chair and talks to the doctor for a little bit. Kaminari stays with Izuku who gingerly takes his hand so he doesn’t injure him farther.

Once the doctor leaves, Kirishima sits in the chair on the other side. “The doctor says he should hopefully wake up soon,” says Kirishima who looks at Bakugou’s face. “Bro why’d you do that? Why’d you have to push me out of the way like that? I can have buildings fall on me. Not you,” he says, burying his face in his hand.

“He did it because you’re his best friend Kirishima. He doesn’t always show it, but he cares for you,” says Izuku. A cough sounds in the room and they both look at him. “Katsuki,” says Izuku. He groans and looks up at the greenette.

“Don’t make me out to be a sap Deku,” he says and coughs.

“Oh my god. Kacchan you’re awake. What do you remember? How do you feel? Are you in any pain? Oh let me get the nurse,” says Deku frantically and he presses the call button.

The nurses come in and their eyes widen. The one at the door calls for the doctor and they rush to the bed. Izuku, Kirishima, and Kaminari are ushered out of the room while they run some tests now that he is awake. Izuku paces outside in the waiting area while they wait. After 45 grueling minutes, the doctor comes out and looks at them.

“Alright it looks like he’s doing ok now that he’s awake. The injuries are all the same and the head injury isn’t as bad as initially thought. Make sure he takes it easy while you’re with him and he’ll need to be in the hospital for a few weeks while the worst of his injuries heal,” he says.

“Thank you doctor. Can we go see him now,” Izuku asked.

“Of course you can go back in,” he says and points towards the room. Izuku goes back in and sees his husband sitting up on the bed and being tended to by a nurse.

“Hey Kacchan,” he says with a smile.

“Did you honestly think I was gonna die that easily,” Katsuki says with a grunt when the nurse brushes his wound.

“Well I mean you did scare me quite a bit Kacchan,” says Izuku who slides into the chair after the nurse is out of the way.

“Hmph. Well I can’t say that fight ended how I wanted it to. I’m just thankful I get see those dumb freckles again,” Katsuki says with his signature smirk.

“Ahhh the romancer and sweet talking Katsuki Bakugou has entered the chat. I was wondering where he went,” says Kirishima. Kaminari laughs at the comment and moves to sit in Kirishima’s lap.

“Shut it shitty hair. Besides what in the hell are you two doing here,” asks Katsuki.

“To see you ya Porcupine Mummy. Oh and to say thank you and please don’t do it again. I can handle having a building fall on my head unlike you,” says the red head.

Katsuki groans and looks at his husband who smiles at him. “Now Katsuki. You’ll have to take some time off to heal from the injuries,” says a nurse who walks in with some pills and some water.

“Yeah yeah I know. I’m not that moronic. My own body is screaming at me. I won’t do something stupid,” says Katsuki.

“Well I mean we do know you well.”

“Yeah between calling me an idiot and him shitty hair. We’ve got you all figured out.”

“Huh what the hell do you mean,” shouts Katsuki.

Izuku just sits back and watches the exchange with a smile on his face. You wouldn’t be able to tell it, but on the inside he was crying. A few short hours ago, he thought his husband was dying. His only reason for living and the light of his entire life. Now he’s here in front of him recovering from his injuries and doing as good as he can. One thought crosses his mind that he’ll discuss with him after the others have left.

Kiri and Kami stick around for a few hours while they reminisce on their glory days. They then take their leave knowing that Katsuki is ok. Izuku lounges in the bed without jostling him too badly.

“Kacchan umm can I ask you something?”

He nods his head and gestures for him to continue. “How would you feel about adopting a child,” asks Izuku.

Katsuki’s eyes widened. Izuku wonders if maybe it was too soon to ask this big of a question when Katsuki reacts this way. They just sit there in silence for a while before the blonde looks at him.

“Are you sure Izuku? I mean are you really sure?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be? I umm want to start a family with you while we still can. I feel like we could give a wonderful child a loving home and-”

Katsuki kisses Izuku gently and passionately. He chuckles into the kiss before pulling away from him. “Of course we can adopt a brat you nerd,” he says.

“Kacchan please don’t call our future child a brat.”

Izuku smiles and hugs him gently. Izuku is the happiest he’s ever been. They’re finally ready to start a family together. Izuku is getting the one thing that he has dreamed of his entire life. Izuku couldn’t be any happier. He’s right where he belongs. He has no intention of going anywhere and neither does Katsuki.
