“I’m not lonely because I’m with you”

Summary:

Breaks never truly felt like rest to Kanae. There was always something missing despite the man being able to laze around in his cozy apartment.

So he’d leave to find joy in something other than the walls of his room into the busy streets of the world. And who knows, maybe he’d find his star among the many bright lights of Downtown Tokyo.

Notes:

I usually write a lot of oneshots in my free time, and I decided (with the encouragement of my friends) that this one is good enough to post! I wrote this based off two incorrect quotes my friend provided me, which I thought were too adorable to not write something--thank you to that friend ww. And of course, big thanks to my wonderful beta who produces my summaries for me <3.

With that said, please enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

After a hectic month of schedules, Kanae finally had some peace and quiet to himself. He flopped back onto the bed, releasing a long sigh. “What should I do? he thought, unable to bear the loneliness creeping up his skin despite it only being a couple minutes. After some contemplation, Kanae decided he would go take a walk to occupy himself and hopefully catch something that sparked his interest. Quickly, he tied his long locks back with a simple, baby blue ribbon, dusted his face with a bit of blush to emphasize his plump cheeks, and ran out of his apartment.

As he walked along the streets of Tokyo, he admired the bright, colorful signs of buildings and the bustling noises of people and traffic. Then, out of the corner of his eye, a particular sign piqued his curiosity. It shone with hues of mint and ruby red and in bright, cursive letters read: Icebreaker Bar . Lowering his eyes, he gazed into the windows of the dimly lit bar which seemed to house mahogany furniture, velvety chairs, and golden bulb lights. Raptured by the stunning interior of the bar, Kanae’s feet began to move on their own into the wide doors of the establishment.

Kanae sat himself down on the second floor in a plush chair, observing the joyous activity below him. Suddenly, there was a loud voice that rang throughout the room. “Get lost. I got here first, Sparkly Pants,” the mysterious person argued with another attendant who looked insanely rich with their trim blazer and… sparkly pants

Kanae snickered at the scene. “Look at that idiot trying to start a bar fight,” He rolled his eyes, going to take a sip of his drink when he halted to a stop. “Wait—that’s my idiot-” he choked, rushing over to the balcony railing to find him. He didn’t spot the familiar head of silver and bounded down the stairs, dodging through the crowds of drunk people.

In his haste to find “his idiot,” he bumped into a person who heavily stank of alcohol. Kanae was horrifyingly greeted with an angry expression, but just when they were about to reprimand him, he was pulled away into a dark corner of the bar by a pair of arms around his waist. He let out a little squeak, quickly turning around with a plan to push the stranger away. “Sorry, I have a boyfriend—” he uttered before locking eyes with distinctive, crimson eyes.

Kuzuha grinned, teeth sparkling even with the lack of light from the bar. “Oh, hi, boyfriend~” Kanae laughed, relieved, sealing the distance between their bodies with a hug. “What are you doing here? You’re not much of a drinker,” Kanae questioned, arms still looped around Kuzuha’s neck.

“A classy vampire such as I must indulge in the fineries of the human world every once in a blue moon.”

“You were bored, weren’t you?”

“Yeah, I was bored,” Kuzuha sighed, nuzzling his nose into Kanae’s hair, slowly breathing in the minty scent. Kanae softly giggled at the affection and proceeded to burrow his face into the smooth, dewy skin of Kuzuha’s neck.

“Lucky for me to bump into you at a time like this,” Kanae murmured into the skin, further melting into the protective embrace. Kuzuha caressed his face, tenderly brushing his thumb against his cheekbones, noticing the hint of blush adorning his cheeks.

“Lonely?” he whispered benevolently. Kanae nodded, a pink hue washing over his cheeks; he hoped his makeup would make it difficult to differentiate the two, but alas, nothing could get past Kuzuha.

The corners of Kuzuha’s lips lifted slightly as he gazed at Kanae’s face, and he pressed a light kiss against his forehead. “It’s late, let's go home, shall we?”

“Yeah, let’s go,” Kanae agreed. On their walk home (otherwise known as Kanae’s house), Kanae marveled at their encounter, for he would've never predicted it. Sure, they were lovers connected by fate, but he never thought much of the fact—until now that is. Kanae squeezed Kuzuha’s hand a little tighter, and a small giggle spilled past his lips.

“What’s so funny?” Kuzuha asked, unperturbed.

“Just thought about how we’re like magnets.”

Kuzuha chuckled. “That’s right, I can never resist you,” he pecked Kanae’s cheek to prove his point.

Kanae laughed, shoving his face away. “But I can,” he teased, untangling their fingers and making a run for it.

“Hey! Don’t run away, you brat!” Kuzuha shouted, leaving him with no choice to run after the maniacal boy.

——

The two had prepared for slumber: Kuzuha ungracefully jumped onto the bed, joining Kanae under the covers.

Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around Kanae; the latter, unfazed, continued their conversation.

“I can’t believe you said that to him,” Kanae relayed, retracing how he spotted Kuzuha earlier at the bar. “I mean…he’s rich!”

“I’m rich too!” Kuzuha pouted.

“But the world doesn’t know that, you dummy.”

“Yes, it does,” Kuzuha said, knowingly grinning at Kanae. Kanae’s ears flushed darkly, and he hit Kuzuha’s chest.

“Stop that!” he whined, embarrassed by the vampire’s comment.

“Stop what?” Kuzuha innocently asked, brushing the boy’s hair behind his ear.

“Stop—”

Kuzuha slotted their lips together, cutting off Kanae’s mini outburst. Kanae let out a whine against his lips, clenching his fingers into Kuzuha’s shirt as his sweet, rosy scent invaded his nostrils. “Kuzuha—” he gasped breathlessly as they separated only for him to be pressed back into the sheets with Kuzuha hovering over him, shutting him up again with another kiss. There was no rush, no lust, no aching need for more—it was just a tender moment in their quiet, little world, indulging in the pleasurable warmth and comfort of each other’s bodies.

Kanae slowly opened his eyes as hot air gently blew onto his face. He blinked up at his lover whose lips were beautifully swollen like his, eyes glazed over in enjoyable fatigue, and moonlit hair messily draped over his forehead. He wrapped his arms around Kuzuha’s back, allowing the vampire to rest his full body weight on him. Contently, he ran his fingers through the locks, feeling Kuzuha’s heartbeat mingling with his own. “Not lonely?” Kuzuha purred into his chest.

“Not lonely,” Kanae smiled.

Notes:

DID ANYONE UNDERSTAND THE “But the world doesn’t know that, you dummy.” -- “Yes, it does." DIALOGUE??? If you didn't...awh...but I'll be happy to provide an explanation right now!

Basically, Kanae says the world doesn't know that Kuzuha's rich, but Kuzuha says "Yes, it does," because KANAE IS HIS WORLD. YeAh, anyway....Thank you for reading this work!
