Chapter Text
“Sapnap! I thought you said you were going to go grocery shopping?” Dream yelled as he stared at the empty fridge before him. "God how many weeks has it been?" he muttered as he took out an old tupperware and sniffed it, gagging and throwing away whatever it was. Other than the mystery food that now was in the trash there was a half empty bottle of ketchup and an old beer can that he had brought home from a party from a few months ago.
He sighed, glancing around their apartment, there was no food in sight. “Sapnap?” he called out again having gotten no answer to his question.
“What?” a muffled yell came from behind the closed door of his roommate’s room. He rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone, deciding that the easiest thing to do would probably be to order pizza for dinner. He clicked on the Domino's app on his phone, glancing uneasily at the phone icon, he really should call his mother, spring break would be a good time to reach out.
“What kind of pizza do you want?” he called out and after a moment Sapnap opened the door, he looked slightly annoyed, one side of his headphones off of his ear and his gaming controller still in his hand.
“Why do you keep yelling? I’m playing with Karl,” Sapnap huffed out and Dream raised an eyebrow. It was no secret that Sapnap had a small crush on their friend, “shut up,” Sapnap added when he saw Dream’s look.
“I asked what kind of pizza do you want,” he repeated instead of bringing up the topic that he knew would just end in a fight.
“Pepperoni,” Sapnap turned to go back into his room before pausing, “oh text George and ask him what kind he wants too.” He practically ran back into his room as Dream’s head shot up from his phone, registering what he had said.
“You have got to be kidding me,” he muttered, opening his iMessage app. It was no secret that Dream and George were not friends. Sapnap has even gone to the extent of calling them enemies one time to which Dream punched him in the arm. He wasn’t George’s enemy, he just wasn’t a fan of the British kid that had latched onto them ever since he moved to America in the 9th grade. He was annoying and rude most of the time and had no sense of spatial awareness and it seemed like he focused his whole existence on making Dream's life miserable. But Sapnap liked him so they were still forced to be acquaintances.
“Hello?” The door to the apartment swung open and, speaking of the devil, George entered, carrying two boxes of pizza in his arms. Dream blinked in surprise.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he paused, “don’t you ever knock?”
George eyed him in disdain and set the pizza on the counter, “where’s Sapnap?” He ignored both of Dream’s questions, glancing around the apartment. Dream was becoming increasingly more annoyed, why did George feel like he had the right to just come into their apartment without even a knock? Asshole.
“Playing the xbox with Karl,” Dream said before adding, “how did you know I was going to order pizza?”
“I didn’t,” George frowned at him, “I need to ask you something.”
Dream opened his mouth to immediately decline when Sapnap again opened his door, walking out and up to George, “Yo George! What’s up bro?” He gave George a side hug, pulling away and looking between the two of them, “everything okay in here?”
“Did you know he was coming?” Dream asked, suddenly remembering how Sapnap had asked him to order George pizza, “Why wouldn’t you tell me?”
“Oh uh…” he paused, glancing at George, “George needs a favor from you and I knew you would just say no if I told you.”
He scoffed, “What makes you think I won’t just say no now,” he turned to George, “no. Sorry with whatever you need, I have no interest in helping you.”
George frowned, crossing his arms over his chest, Dream raised an eyebrow, it wasn’t like him to be this quiet. “George?” he questioned, trying to sound slightly kinder, he had no intention of actually hurting the boy, even if they weren’t friends he didn’t want to upset him.
“You’re literally my last resort, you know that? If I could have gone to literally anyone else I would’ve but stupid Sapnap is visiting his parents and Alex is going to Mexico and Karl is working so my only option is you.” He said the word 'you' like it was the most vile thing to come out of his mouth, and Dream couldn’t lie, he didn’t enjoy being referred to as basically the scum of the earth but he didn’t feel like giving George the satisfaction of knowing he was upset.
“You only have 3 other friends? That’s kind of sad.” Dream smirked as George’s face fell.
“Stop being such a dick Dream,” Sapnap butted in, scowling at the blonde, “this is actually serious, you don’t have to be such an asshole.”
Dream turned toward him in anger, “he just said that I was basically the worst person and he would rather die than ask for my help! Why should I be nice?”
“Sorry! I'm sorry! Is that what you want to hear?” George bursted out, “Please Dream I’ll literally do anything, I need your help, please.” Dream turned to the brunette again in shock, he’d never heard George beg before, even with things like borrowing notes and answers for homework.
“You haven’t even told me what you need help with yet, idiot,” he tried to use a softer tone, for some reason George yelling at him was not something he wanted to experience ever again.
George sighed, “I need you to come to Hawaii with me for my mum’s wedding. It will be all paid for and everything but-”
“Sick!” he interrupted, “why would you be nervous about that? Sure I’ll go on a free vacation with you. I've actually always wanted to go to Hawaii, actually my sister-”
“Dream.” George interrupted him, suddenly looking at the floor, “there’s a catch, I need you to…” he glanced at Dream before returning his gaze to the floor, “pretend to be my uh... boyfriend.”
Dream went silent, staring at George in shock. That was the last thing he expected to come out of his mouth. His brain seemed to be short circuiting, he couldn’t figure out a single coherent sentence to say. He looked at Sapnap helplessly and his best friend just stared at him with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh. uh…” he trailed off, suddenly wishing he was anywhere else but in this small apartment, hell, he would rather be in class than here, and that was saying something, he really fucking hated school.
“Look, I know it’s a lot to ask but you’d only really have to put on a show at mealtime and the ceremony, other than that it's just a free vacation.” George was using that pleading tone again that made Dream feel terrible for wanting to decline. "My mom is marrying this guy that is like, super rich, and she's not too poor herself so it will be a nice-"
“Free pizza from you for 3 months.” Dream said and George paused, raising a questioning eyebrow, “I’ll do it if you-”
“Yes! Yes, oh my god Dream thank you, thank you.” George surged forward hugging him tightly around the waist before nearly jumping back, as if just registering what he was doing, “oh… uh sorry.” He laughed nervously.
“You’re good,” Dream said, slightly uncomfortable at the physical gesture, he glanced at Sapnap, “so you knew about this?”
Sapnap laughed nervously, “yeah he actually asked me first but, you know, going to see my mom and all.” Dream nodded slowly, biting his lip. “I’m gonna go back to my game.” Sapnap said, grabbing two slices of pizza and heading to his room, he turned toward them once more, “don’t fight too much.” and with that he shut the door, leaving Dream and George in silence.
“So…” George started, leaning against the kitchen counter, “we leave in two days.”
“Two days?!” Dream blanched, “that’s so soon, Jesus, I need to pack.”
“Yeah sorry about it being super last minute, I’ll send you the packing list later but it’s pretty self explanatory.” He squinted his eyes as if thinking about something, “do you have a suit?”
“Uh yeah why?” Dream asked, trying not to think about what George would look like in a suit, he didn’t know why his mind was deciding to turn on him, probably the excitement of a free vacation.
“It's a wedding you need a suit.” George said blankly as if that was the most obvious thing in the world. A flash of annoyance washed over him, why couldn't he just be nice? Dream was doing him a huge favor he didn't need to be short tempered.
“Right.” Dream said, the air was beginning to feel stuffy and awkward and he wished that George would leave.
“I should go,” George said, as if reading his thoughts, “enjoy the pizza, oh, and one more thing.” Dream gave him a questioning look as George’s face brightened, teasingly, “there’s just one rule, no falling in love with me.”
Dream’s face heated up as he scoffed, “Yeah in your dreams.”
George paused at the door, giggling slightly, “dreams," he repeated as if he'd just told a hilarious joke.
Dream rolled his eyes, “see you in two days idiot, don’t forget to send me the packing list.”
“You’ll be surprised at how charming I can be if I really put my mind to it,” George suddenly said, winking, winking??? at Dream.
“Shut up, idiot,” but he found himself laughing a little, “hey, that rule goes for you too, I know I’m overwhelmingly hot and cool but you can’t fall in love either. We don’t like each other, remember?”
George’s smile fell a bit at his words, “Right. Well, see you later, Dream.” He walked out the door, letting it slam shut behind him. Dream frowned, he didn’t get why the mood had shifted, they’d been joking as if they were almost friends. He shrugged, deciding to ignore it. He had packing to do.
