Work Text:
There was a lot of ways you could describe the Bakusquad.
Loud? Yes. Obnoxious? Also yes. Wild and slightly unhinged with possibly a few loose screws? Most probably.
But out of all the adjectives that fit perfectly within their spectrum. There was one that stood out.
The Bakusquad was a lot of things…
But oblivious was 𝒏𝒐𝒕 one of them.
They prided themselves with having great senses. After all, training to become heroes entailed that they master their skills in observation and harness all the instincts they could. Observant was a necessary trait to acquire in their field of studies.
Kirishima had a knick for good judgment.
Sero was sharp and quick-witted.
Mina was compassionate.
And Kaminari, even with his slightly dumb tendencies, could come up with the most creative ideas.
And so, when their resident explosive leader started to act differently around their other musically talented friend—they knew something was brewing.
---
“He’s into her, huh?” Sero, the blunt one, brought up one fateful afternoon, as they were on their way back to the dorms. Bakugou was walking ahead, Jirou in tow.
“Don’t be so loud dummy! Don’t ruin their moment”, Mina reprimanded in reply. The four of them were walking a few steps behind the pair.
They all watched in awe as the explosive hero continued to converse with Jirou. His eyes were soft as they focused on her, the scowl that seemed permanently etched on his face now replaced with a gentle look. They were talking about some band that they were both apparently into.
Kirishima’s grin was wide and sharp, “Aweee, our Bakubro is finally a man! Look at the way he looks at her!”
“If only he was man enough to ask her out though”, the taping hero replied with a sigh.
Brows furrowed in confusion, Denki asked “What? You think Kacchan can’t?”
“I’m not saying he can’t. It’s just a matter of will he?”
The others continued to look at him in bewilderment. Sighing, Sero continued. “I mean, this is 𝐵𝑎𝑘𝑢𝑔𝑜𝑢 were talking about. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna figure out the equation to the quantum realm before he even realizes his feelings.”
“And even when he does, he’d probably rather die in a ditch than admit it out loud”, Mina agreed.
Denki continued on, “And that’s not even considering Jirou, who’s pretty stubborn too”.
Nodding, the black-haired boy replied, “Exactly. Not to mention we’re on our third year already. They’re basically running out of time.”
Right at that moment, their conversation gets cut off by a scream from the man himself, “The fuck did you just say to me Ear bitch?!?” Jirou laughed at him and began to run as the hotheaded boy blasted to catch up with her.
“Yeah they’re hopeless”, Sero sighed as the other two nodded dejectedly.
“Shame, they would have been cute too”.
Scoffing loudly, Kirishima stepped in front of the other three, smile still unfaltering, “You guys are a bunch of negative Nancies!”
“You think they actually stand a chance, babe?” Mina asked her red-haired boyfriend with a raised eyebrow.
“No, you’re right, those two are hopeless…” with a glint in his eye he continued, “on their own that is. But that’s why we’re here bros! We can totally help those two oblivious lovebirds!”
Looking at each other, no words needed to be exchanged then.
And so began, 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐣𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐮.

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝑨: 𝑸𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆.
“The first step to any relationship is getting to know each other and spending time with your person”. Kirishima was currently standing in front of his three peers, all of which were sitting and watching him intently as he proceeded to explain his battle plans. The words “Quality Time” plastered on the small white board he was holding. “The more time that Bakubro and Jirou spend with each other, the more they will realize their respective feelings”, he continued.
“Uh huh, so the plan is basically have them hang out all the time?” Mina questioned.
“Yup!”
Sero, with a raised brow, asked next, “And you’re sure this will work?”
“I’m positive!” Kirishima answered at once, his sharp smile unwavering, “I mean it worked for me and Mina! We spent so much time working on our UA application form that we realized there was something there, right babe?”
“Well yea…” the said girlfriend answered in turn.
“See? This will totally work, trust me! Now any more questions?”
At that, Denki, who was mostly uncharacteristically quiet during the whole ordeal, raised his hand, “I have a question.”
“Uh yes, Kaminari?”
“Well I was just wondering…”
“Yeah?” Kiri encouraged him
The electrification hero took a nice deep breath before finally asking the one question that has been plaguing his mind ever since the four of them arrived at Kirishima’s room: “Where’d you get the board?”
“KAMINARI!!”
---
Their plan was set into motion at once. Whenever their friend group would hang out, the “four horsemen”, as Denki had coined them from a movie he had seen, would find ways to leave Bakugou and Jirou alone. They always came up with different reasons to justify their absence, spouting excuses after excuses: a date, a forgotten homework, plans with other classmates, important call from a relative, a sudden toothache, and so on and so forth.
“𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝐽𝑎𝑚𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔-𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑦? 𝐴𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑜𝑢?”
“𝑂𝑖! 𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑦 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑠 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛?”
“𝐴 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑆𝑝𝑎𝑖𝑛?”
“𝐼𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑓𝑖𝑥 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑦 𝑠𝑙𝑒𝑒𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑙𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑𝑛’𝑡 𝑏𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎 𝑚𝑖𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑛𝑜𝑤, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑛𝑜 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑒!”
One Saturday, the six of them had planned to go out for a fun hangout. Curiously though Sero had to help Todoroki with a certain problem and Denki had conveniently over-used his quirk (blow drying his hair of all things) five minutes before they had to leave. Not wanting to cancel their plans and put the movie tickets to waste, Kirishima insisted that the four of them should just go through with it.
“This is so exciting!” Mina squealed from the backseat of Katsuki’s car. She and Eijiro were entangled in each other’s arms, “It’s just like a double date!”
The pink girl only received unenthusiastic hums in reply from her two friends sat in the front seats.
“Oh come on, Debby downers! You’re telling me you guys aren’t even a little bit thrilled?”
“No.”
“Not really, Mina.”
“Why not?” Kirishima had asked.
“’Cause out of all the movies, your girlfriend had to pick some damn cheesy romance film!” Bakugou answered, his signature scowl plastered on his face, eyes slit into a glare as he focused on driving.
Jirou nodded along, “Yeah, I agree with Blasty. Why can’t we just watch that new music documentary they just released?”
“No offense, Jirou-babe but your movie taste kinda sucks”
“Hey!”
Mina ignored her outburst, “And besides! Like I said, all the other movies were sold out.”
“Are you sure? Because it doesn’t say that in their website—“
Jirou was once again ignored, “Yup, positive!”
Before the purple-haired girl could continue questioning Mina, Kirishima had swooped in, “Regardless of what movie we see, it’s gonna be super fun you guys! Besides I really doubt the movie’s gon’ be that bad.”
“Okay?”
“Whatever.”
Contrary to what Kirishima had said the movie was, in fact, 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑏𝑎𝑑. They were only twenty minutes in but both Bakugou and Jirou were already uninterested. The storyline was as cliché as any romance movie could get, the characters had nothing dynamic about them, and the writing was just plain terrible.
Despite of the shit show in front of them though, the two heroes found enjoyment in harsh commentary and snide remarks whispered between the both of them. Trying their best to talk shit and laugh as quietly as possible, but ultimately failing—earning themselves multiple sneers from the other movie watchers, which in turn had Katsuki harshly grumbling back at them to “𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑑𝑎𝑚𝑛 𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠, 𝑝𝑢𝑛𝑘!”
Half-way through the film Mina got a phone call from an uncle (who suspiciously sounded a lot like Denki). Apparently, her great aunt Clarice had suffered a heart attack and she needed to head to the hospital right at that moment.
“Okay well what hospital is it so I can drive us there?” Bakugou asked, already starting to get up from his sit.
Mina hurriedly answered, “Oh no no no, it’s okay! Kirishima and I will take a cab!”
“Right, you just stay here with Jirou, Bakubro!” the hardening hero added, placing a firm hand on Bakugou’s shoulder to keep him sitting.
Jirou’s face was etched in confusion, “What? Don’t you wanna get there as fast as you can?”
“No, yes of course! But it’s totally okay. I don’t wanna burden you guys!”
“What the fuck are ‘ya talking about? It’s not gonna be a fucking bur—”
“Seriously Bakubro, we’ve got it okay? You two have fun!”
Before either Bakugou or Jirou could reply back, the couple was already dashing out the movie theater, leaving their friends bewildered.
“Huh. That was weird.” Jirou stated once her confusion finally dwindled down.
Bakugou nodded back, “Damn right.”
With a shrug the musical hero turned to her companion, “Wanna ditch and go to that arcade down the street?”
“Tch, what are you? Five?” He sneered in reply.
“Scared I’ll beat your ass at Street Fighter, Blasty?”
The boy chuckled darkly, “You’re fucking on, Ears!”
Just then the people behind them started to hush at hem harshly.
“NO YOU SUSH MOTHE—”
“Yup were going, let’s go.” Jirou murmured while hurriedly dragging her explosive companion before he could cause a bigger commotion.
“Ooooh I wonder how their little date is going,” Denki asked the other four as they all sprawled around the dorm common room couches.
Sero cackled loudly, “Five bucks says it’s gonna go to shit!”
At his statement, Mina proceeded to throw a pillow at his face, “Piss off tape face! You didn’t see them earlier. They were so adorable!”
Kirishima added, “Yeah! They were all giggly and happy and it was so cute gu—“
“UGH YOU ARE INSUFFERABLE!”
The four friends jumped in surprised at the sudden outburst at the dorm’s front door. Turning quickly, they are met by the subject of their conversation: Bakugou and Jirou, in the flesh, their faces etched in annoyance and frustration
The explosive boy replied to the girl’s jab, “OH M’FUCKING INSUFFERABLE? YOU’RE THE ONE BEING A BITCH!”
Before the situation could escalate further Kirishima stepped up, “Hey hey guys! What’s going on? What happened?”
“Bakugou couldn’t accept being a loser and got us both banned from my favorite arcade”, Jirou explained.
Sparks were already starting to form on Katsuki’s clenched fists, “IT AIN’T MY FAULT THAT CLAW SHIT WAS FUCKING RIGGED!”
“YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO BLOW IT UP!” With a roll of her eyes, Jirou proceeded to walk away from the conversation, fuming and irritable.
Bakugou didn’t give his friend enough time to reprimand him. With a glare, he grumbled, “Piss off”, before abruptly walking away to his own room.
The four horsemen stood in disbelief of what they had just witnessed. The silence was broken by Hanta.
“This might be an inappropriate time, but I just wanna say that I totally called it!”

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝑩: 𝑨𝒃𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒇𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓.
“Okay so maybe Plan A, didn’t go according to plan…”
Denki snorted, “Sure! That’s one way to put it”
“So got any more plans Mr. Mastermind?”
“Sure do!” Kirishima proceeded to explain to them his next move. “Since Bakubro and Jirou have been spending so much time together, our next plan is to turn that upside down!”
“So we keep them apart?” Mina asked
“Yup!”
“And how is that gonna work exactly?”
Kirishima, grabbing his marker, proceeds to make little stick figures on his whiteboard, “Now that Bakubro and Jirou have been spending so much time together, having them apart will make them miss each other’s presence.”
Mina cut him off, “Thus making them realize how much they mean to one another!”
“Yes!”
Kaminari nods approvingly, “Okay...” A smirk then appeared on his face, “But why stop there?”
Sero stares at him suspiciously, “What are you thinking and why do I have a bad feeling about this?”
“Let’s make them jealous!”
“And… I was right! I don’t like the sound of that,” the taping hero exclaims.
At this Denki jumped up, snatching the whiteboard from Kiri to show his plan.
“If we have them think that there’s a possibility that the other person could be swept away by someone else, guess what? It would make them want to make a move faster!”
The other three taught for a moment before Mina nodded, pink curls bouncing up and down, “Okay that makes sense!”
This had the electrification hero pump his fist into the air with a dramatic, “I’m a genius.”
---
“I am not a genius.”
Hanta clapped a hand on his back, “Sure ya are, Denks!”
It had been a week, since their second plan was set into motion. Nothing particular was to be noted. The four of them simply found ways to keep the two apart—sitting between them during movie nights, grabbing the other so they couldn’t walk together, claiming shotgun so Kyouka couldn’t sit in the front seat. So far, the plan seemed to be fruitless, as neither Jirou nor Bakugou showed any particular movement. As a result, they decide to step up their game. The three heroes were currently convincing Denki to be the one to make Katsuki jealous by flirting with Jirou.
“Wait, wait, wait! Does it have to be me?” Kaminari whined.
“Yes!”
“Why?!”
Kirishima smiled at him encouragingly, “Well one: It was your plan. Two: you and Jirou are already close, so it’s not suspicious for you to be clingy with her. Three: It won’t be convincing if it was me or Mina, since were already together.”
“And four: I really don’t wanna get blown to pieces when Bakugou inevitably snaps!”, Sero added, making his blonde friend whine in protest.
The next time that the Bakusquad had their weekly movie night, Kaminari was on a mission to make Bakugou jealous. He had spent a whole hour talking to his reflection, trying to convince himself that he could do it. His other three friends tried to encourage him as well. Keyword: Tried.
“You can do it Denks!”
“Be manly, Kami-bro!”
“Don’t worry, dude! I’m sure Bakugou wouldn’t actually hurt you… much”
Half-way through the film, Mina was already complaining over the lack of popcorn, since Hanta had already devoured it all. It was Katsuki’s turn to get up and grab it for them, which he did with very unwillingly, grumbling about their “𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑝𝑖𝑑 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑢𝑛ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ𝑦 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑡”.
As Bakugou left the room Denki took this as his opportunity to snake his way to where Katsuki was sat, right next to Jirou. The movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, had the girl’s full attention.
Gently poking her side, Kaminari tried to grab her attention with a quiet, “Psttt Jirou-babe….”
With her mind immersed with the film, all he received in reply was an uninterested hum.
“Jirouuu….”, he tried once more.
Half-annoyed, Kyouka finally answered him; harshly whispering “What is it you want, Jamming-whey?”
“Can I lay on your lap?”
“What?”
Dramatically, he repeated, “Wanna lay on your lapppp, Jirouuuu”
Rolling her amethyst eyes at her friend’s theatrics, she replied, “Go lay on Sero”
“But he’s all bonesss!” He whined, once again poking at her side, “Wanna lay on yourssss”
“Kaminari, I’m trying to watch the movie”
“I know! So just let me lay on your lap so you can focus on Freddie Mercury”
Grumbling in defeat, the girl sighed, “Fine.”
“Yay!”, without a second thought, Kaminari started to lie down, laying his head on the girls lap through the quilt she had over her legs, “Mmmmm thank you”
The girl only hummed in reply, once again fully immersed with the film.
The relaxing feels of the moment did not last long for Denki, as the tell-tale sound of Bakugou’s footsteps started to reverberate around the room. The electric boy had to physically stop himself from shuddering as he felt the chills run down his spine. He swallowed the sudden lump in his throat as he heard Mina grabbing the bowl of popcorn and mutter a quiet thanks to the explosion hero.
A second later, Katsuki appeared above him, peering down at him with a glare so sharp, he swore he felt it. “What the fuck are you doing in my spot, dunce-face?”
Feigning innocence Kaminari replied, “Oh, is it? I’m sorry, Kacchan, but I’m already comfortable,” he made it a point to rub his head onto Jirou’s lap, “so can you just find another sit?”
“No,” he replied sharply.
“Oh wait, where’s the other bowl of popcorn?” Denki asked.
Teeth tightly pressed, Bakugou muttered lowly, “What.”
Sero, who was quietly eyeing the scene finally interjected, “You’re supposed to make two, Bakugou”
“Ha? I already made one. I ain’t fucking making another.”
Denki mentally kicked himself for the words that left his mouth next, “Sorry Kacchan, rules are rules, ya know?”
Before the hothead could reply, the purple-haired girl beat him to it. With a groan, she glared up at Bakugou, “Can you just go make the popcorn? I’m trying to watch”
Katsuki returned her glare sharply, before targeting it to Kaminari again, and then quietly walking towards the kitchen once more.
From the three years of getting to know Bakugou, Kaminari had learned that the boy was a loudmouth—this was a norm. He screamed when he was angry, annoyed, pumped up, and on the rare occasions, even happy. At this point in time, all of them were most definitely well-acquainted with the brash and rough timbre of his voice. So when the hotheaded boy would start to yell at anything and everything, no one is really surprised anymore.
It was a different story when Bakugou goes quiet. ‘𝑂ℎ 𝑚𝑦 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝐼’𝑚 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑑. 𝐼’𝑚 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑑𝑖𝑒. 𝐹𝑢𝑐𝑘. 𝐹𝑢𝑐𝑘. 𝐹𝑢—’
His thoughts are interrupted as a bowl is shoved in front of him. Bakugou silently handed him the bowl before walking off to a bean bag placed next to Hanta, who was currently trying his best not to laugh out loud from the terrified look on Denki’s face.
A few minutes later, after a brief mental pep talk for himself, the electric hero spoke up once more, “Hey Jirou-babe?” Kaminari knew that at this point he was basically just burying himself alive, but he figure that since he was gonna go, he might as well go with a bang. Perhaps 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦.
The girl groaned before replying, “What is it this time? I swear I’m gonna zap you if you don’t stop pestering me.”
“Can you play with my hair?” The boy had to give all his focus on trying to steady his voice, already feeling his soul leaving his body, “Pweaseeee?”
With another groan, Kyouka gave in, running her dainty fingers through his blonde locks, eyes still focused on the film.
Denki hummed in appreciation as his eyes fluttered close. He told himself it was to feign relaxation, but a part of him knew it was so he could avoid going eye-to-eye with the steel glare he could feel being directed at him.
Kirishima, Mina, and Sero all quietly exchanged looks Yup. Denki was royally fucked.
Time seemed to pass-by and before he knew it they were already onto their next movie. Denki had stopped paying attention a long while ago opting to just stare into space as Kyouka continued to run her fingers through his blond hair. He was basically basking in the serenity of the moment, knowing full-well this might just be the last time he ever had human interaction. He started to reflect on his life, his accomplishments, his aspiration, his dreams, his—
“Denki, bro!”, this time he is broken from his reverie by a smiling Kirishima, his hand were outstretched presenting him an empty bowl. “It’s your turn to grab popcorn now”
Groaning in frustration, a complaint was on the tip of his tongue until a gruff voice interrupted him.
“Rules are rules, 𝐷𝑒𝑛𝑘𝑖”
Kaminari gulped audibly, before turning to the voice. Cold calculating vermillion eyes met his. Bakugou’s face was devoid of his usual scowl, instead sporting a blank look. The neutrality plastered on his face made Denki want to whimper.
“O-okay”, he couldn’t stop the slight waver of his voice this time.
Getting up, ever so slowly, he grabbed the bowl from Kirishima, whose encouraging smile did not ease his discomfort the slightest.
His body was on autopilot as he began to prepare what was most likely his last meal. Just as he was about to place the bowl inside the microwave, a sudden sound came from behind him, making the poor boy’s soul leave his body.
Turning around quickly, he was about to start begging for his life, when he meets familiar amethyst eyes. “Yo, Denks…”
“Oh Jirou! Oh it’s you. Phew!”
She stared up at him in confusion at his outburst, “…are you… are you okay?”
He laughed nervously, putting on his brave face and then saying in reply, “yeah, no, I’m perfectly fine!”
“Uhh… okay? Well here’s the other bowl”
“Right! Two bowls, right!”
“… right. Well, uh, I’m gonna go”
The hearing hero barely took her 15th step, when suddenly, a loud cackling noise went off, and the lights flickered for a second. Quickly, she turned back around to towards the kitchen, “Kaminari!”
The boy stood there, left hand holding the microwave handle, whilst his right wrist was formed into a thumbs up, “Whey!”
“Oh my god, Kaminari”, Kyouka had to cover her mouth with both of her hands, trying her best to not burst out laughing. Behind her, their other four friends arrived at the scene, panic written on their faces.
“Holy shit man!”
“What happened?”
“Yo Kami! Are you okay?”
Drool was starting to fall from his face, “Whey~~!”
“Jeez, dunce face. How do you fail at making popcorn?”
Mina, Kirishima, and Sero, all turned their heads to source of the sound. Bakugou was leaning against the door frame—hands in his pocket, posture relaxed, face still devoid of emotion. The three of them looked away quickly as the red-eyed boy met their stare abruptly.
Quietly, Sero whispered to Kirishima, “Remember when I said I didn’t like this idea?”
“Yup,” sighing in exasperation, the hardening hero replied, “You called it.”

𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝑪: 𝑨 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑮𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆
“Jealousy does not hurt the lovers. Jealousy hurts Denki. It fucking hurts Denki”, the electrification hero continued to grumble out.
Sero chuckled quietly, “Hey man, that was 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 plan, remember?”
“I know, and you should have gone against it!”
“I tried!”
“Okay, okay”, Mina stepped between them, “The last plan was terrible, we get it. So what’s our next move?”
The taping hero sighed, “Seriously? We’re not giving up yet?”
“Course not!”
“Right, well what’s the plan this time?”
“Well, actually...”, Kiri started, “I, uhm, I don’t really know anymore, so like, maybe we can brainstorm.”
“Ooh what if—“, Denki raises his hand, only for Sero to abruptly pull it down again.
Shaking his head, Sero quietly reprimanded him, “No no, Denki, no no.”
The blonde boy pouts but ultimately resigned himself to sinking back to his chair.
Mina spoke up, “What if we like created a perfect scenario for them?”
“Like what babe?”
“I don’t know like maybe.. A party! Or something like that. Just you know, create the best situation for them to finally confess to each other!”
Kirishima thought it over, before turning to his girlfriend, “I dunno Mina-babe, but that kinda sounds like a lot of wor—“
A snap interrupts the sturdy hero, as Sero abruptly stands up as if a light bulb had just gone off in his brain, “I got it!”
“You do?”
“Yup, Ashido’s right.”
“I am!?”
“Yeah! We need to create a perfect scenario!”
Denki, still pouting, raised his brows, “Really? You’re willing to go through the whole party planning for Kacchan and Jirou?”
A wide smile graced the taping hero’s features, “I didn’t say anything about a party, did i?”
The other three stared at him incredulously
“Kiri give me that board!”
---
It was a Saturday afternoon and the Bakusquad were currently clad in their gym clothes. Sero had insisted they have a group sparring session. Not one to back down from a challenge, Katsuki didn’t hesitate to agree, and Kyouka didn’t really mind the extra practice. After some discussion about who goes with whom, the squad decided that the first team would be composed of Kirishima, Mina, and Sero, whilst Bakugou, Jirou, and Kaminari would make up the other.
The fight was at full swing, each of the young heroes giving their best despite this only being a spar. Katsuki and Kirishima were going head to head, while Kaminari and Kyouka were exhibiting teamwork against Sero and Mina.
“Jeez Bakubro, you’re not letting up are you?”
“Ya think I’m gon’ go easy on ya just cause we ain’t in a real battle, shitty hair?”
“Fair enough!”
Five minutes into the battle, and Kyouka figured out that Sero seemed to have the intention of capturing her in the grasps of his tapes. Swinging around, the boy kept trying to render her immobile. But he wasn’t the only one with tricks up his sleeves. Whilst Kaminari was keeping Mina busy, and Katsuki with Kirishima, Kyouka took it upon herself to face the taping hero head on.
“What? You gonna stay up there Tape-face?”
“Ya know, you’re starting to sound like Bakugou, Jirou-chan” ‘
With a chuckle, Sero once again directed his tape towards Jirou. This time instead of dodging like she had before, the sound hero caught the tape in her hands, and with all her might pulled, effectively bringing down the tape hero. Quickly, the boy stood up just in time to dodge an incoming Heartbeat Surround attack from his opponent. Having regained his footing, the two heroes fought hand to hand.
“Dang, girl, you sure can punch.”
“Ojiro’s been teaching me some martial arts, Uraraka and Bakugou too.”
“Nice!”
With her earphone jacks plugged in to her amplifier bracelets, Kyouka landed a particularly good punch sending the tape hero flying back. The added boost of her amplifier might have been too much, since the boy remained on the ground instead of getting up. Face etched in worry, the girl immediately ran towards her friend, thinking that he might have gotten seriously injured.
“Oh my god Sero!”
Finally getting to the boy, Jirou kneeled down beside him. Just as she was about to use her jacks to check the boy’s heartbeat, onyx eyes met her own and a wide smile graced the boy’s features.
“Got’cha”
Before Kyouka could blink, Sero already had her body wrapped in his tape, effectively restraining her.
With a growl, Kyouka glared up at the boy, “That was a cheap shot, Sero.”
“On the contrary, I do believe there is no such thing, Ji” With an even wider grin, the hero continued, “Now to take you to jail, villain!”
“Seriously? Are you really gonna put me in that dingy cel-- SERO”
Using his tape, Hanta once again swung through the air, with a thrashing Kyouka in his grasp.
“Sero, you fucker! You know I’m scared of heights!”
“Jeez, stop squirming so much, Ji. If you keep doing that I might just drop y—”
The taping hero was cut off by the sound of something ripping. It seemed that the boy didn’t restrain Kyouka all that tightly, as the tape he held on to Kyouka started to tear.
With a gulp, Jirou stared at the ground in fear “…Sero..”
“Uh oh”
And then the tape gave in, sending Kyouka dropping to the ground with a scream.
The sound had everyone stopping, just in time to see their friend toppling through the air at an alarming speed.
“EARS!”
With even greater speed, Katsuki blasted into the air. Using his explosions to propel him towards the sound hero. The others watched in awe at how fast the explosive boy was going.
Jirou had her eyes close, preparing herself for the harsh impact. Although the height wouldn’t be enough to kill her, and the training mat on the ground would somewhat cushion her fall, surely falling that high would hurt very much. 𝐼’𝑚 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑆𝑒𝑟𝑜. 𝑂ℎ, ℎ𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑜 𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑑!
But instead of meeting the ground in painful impact, Jirou felt no such thing. Opening her eyes, she is met by the sight of one Katsuki Bakugou, who was holding her in one of his arms, while the other was busy creating small explosion to bring the both of them down slowly.
The whole room was quiet as the two finally landed safely. Jirou was speechless, her mind still reeling from the incident. She had fallen and Bakugou saved her. Again. Coming back into reality she realized that her arms had instinctively wrapped around his neck, whilst one of his was still wrapped around her waist. Bakugou was so close that she could feel his soft panting, parallel with her own hurried breathing.
Kirishima, Mina, Denki, and Sero, all quietly watched as the two seemed to be in a trance, staring at each other with such intensity in both their eyes.
“𝑂ℎ 𝑚𝑦 𝑔𝑜𝑑, 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑛.”
“𝐻𝑜𝑙𝑦 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑡, 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔?”
“𝐼𝑡’𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔!”
“𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑦’𝑟𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑠! 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑦’𝑟𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑠! 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑦’𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑜 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑘𝑖—”
“Seriously, Ear freak? Ya fucking lost to plain face?!” Katsuki blurted out.
With a groan, Kyouka replied, “Ugh, he tricked me!”
“And ya actually fell for it like a dumbass?! I thought I taught you better? How the fuck do you fall for that shit—”
The two heroes started to argue. Not noticing their other friends staring at them, this time with all their jaws dropped towards the floor.
“…what…”
“…the…”
“…fuck…”
“WAS THAT?!??”
At Denki’s outburst both Bakugou and Jirou immediately stopped their quarreling to turn to their friends. Sero had his hand in his forehead in a face slap, Mina was blinking at them repeatedly, Denki’s mouth was basically one with the floor, and Kirishima looked two seconds away from bursting into tears.
“What the fuck was what?” Bakugou questioned with a raised brow.
“You! The both of you!” Denki replied back.
Jirou, with confusion evident in her face, asked him this time, “What about the both of us?”
“You just—I don’t understand.” The boy stuttered about, “How do you go from—I—Wha—”
The electric boy was cut off this time by the black-haired boy. “I give up!”, Sero exclaimed before walking away from the scene.
“Ugh! I can’t believe I got injured for this shit!” Denki whined next before following the taping hero.
“Oi, where the fuck are you fuckers going?”
“Wait, you guys! We can still—I” Kirishima tried to call out to them.
Mina placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, “Kiri, baby, it’s over.”
“Wait, what’s over?”, Jirou questioned, but getting no answer in reply.
“B-but..”
“It’s okay Eiji, it’s okay…”
With a sniffle and tears brimming his red eyes, the boy turned to his girlfriend.
Mina, held his hands tightly, “Awe it’s okay baby. I’ll tell you what, how about we go have a sleepover at my room? We can watch that new movie you wanted.”
Wiping the tears in his eyes, Kirishima replied in a quiet voice, “Can we wear our matching shark onesies please?”
“Sure, baby. Whatever you want” Mina replied to her boyfriend, before the both of them walked away, leaving Bakugou and Jirou on their own.
A moment passed. Then two. Then three.
The two heroes turned to each other and…
“PFFFTT”
Bakugou and Jirou burst out laughing.
“Oh my god!”
“Did you see their fucking faces?!”
“They looked so defeated!”
“B-but”, Bakugou mocked. “That was priceless”
“God we should have recorded that” With her laughter finally dying down, Jirou wiped the tears that have gathered in her eyes, “Poor Kiri”
Bakugou scoffed, “Serves him right for coming up with all this operation bullshit.”
“I don’t understand did they think I couldn’t hear them from that far?”
“They literally had their ‘secret meetings’ at Shitty Hair’s room, which is next to mine. I could hear their fucking brainstorming clearly.”
The statement made Jirou laugh out loud once more, making the explosive boy grin, in turn. Walking closer to the giggling girl, Bakugou tucked a stray hair behind her ear, and cradled her cheeks. The warmth of his palm was parallel to the heat rising in Jirou’s face.
“Ya okay, Ears? Fucking tape face didn’t actually hurt ya, did he?”
Smiling up at the boy, Jirou placed her own hand over his, before replying, “M’fine Katsuki.”
“Ya better be, else that extra gon’ have to prepare for an ass beating.” He replied, pulling the girl closer
“Yea? Are you gonna create a repeat of the incident with Kaminari?”
A smirk graced his features, “I don’t know what’cha talking about, Ears.”
Kyouka rolled her eyes, “Really? So you 𝑑𝑖𝑑𝑛’𝑡 mess with the microwave?”
“Like I said, I don’t know what’cha yappin’ about, 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠.” Katsuki replied before pinching the girl’s already reddened cheeks. The sight of her obviously flustered face made the boy chuckle, “What? Ya still get embarrassed when I call ya cheesy pet names?”
“M’not embarrassed. It’s just…”
“It’s just ya like it so much that it makes ya giddy, don’t it?” Her jacks were now tapping against each other in the way they always do when she was nervous. This made the blonde grin wider, “We’ve been dating for over a year now, Ears. Don’t know how y’er not used to this shit by now.”
The accusation made her cheeks flare up even more, making the boy laugh once again. Kyouka groaned, “Shut up.” The words came out a little muffled, a direct result of her coving her face with her hands.
“Fucking adorable” Katsuki smiled at his girlfriend’s antics. Taking her hands to stop her from covering her stupidly beautiful face, he couldn’t resist pulling her closer by the waist, leaning down to the shorter girl and kissing her softly. Jirou didn’t hesitate to reciprocate, wrapping her own arms around the boy’s neck, with her earjacks doing the same.
Pulling away, Kyouka stared up at her boyfriend, before engulfing him in a hug laying her head on his chest, so that she could listen to the soft beating of his heart. Katsuki gave her a kiss on the head before resting his chin on it. The both of them were simply basking in the serenity of holding each other. It wasn’t often that the two heroes get time for themselves, between classes, hero training, and spending time with their other friends, Bakugou and Jirou we’re not always blessed with the luxury of time. Still, they made it work. In fact, in the year and a half of being with each other, they’ve come to realize that their not-so flexible availability made moments like these all the more worth it.
“Do you plan on ever telling them?” Kyouka asked.
It wasn’t like they were keeping their relationship a secret. They simply weren’t flaunting it all the time, being quite private people. In fact, some of their classmates had already figured it out. Like Midoriya, who according to Bakugou was just “𝑡𝑜𝑜 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑛𝑜𝑠𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑑𝑎𝑚𝑛 𝑔𝑜𝑜𝑑.”
“Eh let ‘em guess. Serves ‘em right for thinking I couldn’t make a move.” Katsuki answered her, “Besides this shit gives us free passes to spend time hanging out”
The girl glared up at him, “Hanging out as in getting banned from my favorite arcade?”
Katsuki groaned knowing full well his girlfriend still wasn’t over the whole ordeal, “Ugh I told you that shit was rigged!” Receiving nothing but an incredulous glare, the boy sighed before mumbling softly, “I said I was sorry, okay? I just wanted to get you the stupid bear.”
Jirou couldn’t stop herself from grinning at her emotionally-constipated man. And then with a teasing smirk she remarked, “I don’t know, Kats, Denki would have probably won it for me.”
The statement made the explosive boy growl, pulling the girl even closer, “Tch, as if. You’re fucking mine, Kyou.”
She laughed out loud at his obvious jealousy. “Jeez calm down, lover boy.” Standing on her tip toes, the girl reached up to peck his lips softly, “We both know I’m all yours. 𝐴𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛.”
The blonde smiled down at her. Softly she continued, “Thanks for saving me today.”
This time it was Katsuki who leaned down to give her a kiss.
“𝐴𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙, 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠.”
Bonus:
It was late into the evening when Katsuki, Denki, and Hanta, arrived back at their dorms after a night of patrolling. Being in their last year, the students of UA have never been busier. Between internship, trainings, and preparing for exams, the young heroes were practically slumped. The three boys walked into the dorms, exhausted and just about ready to pass out. Denki was sluggish as if any moment he would switch to his whey-mode. Sero was basically sleep-walking at this point. And Bakugou, even with his chest straight and head held high, was obviously just as tired.
Walking into the dorm kitchen they are met by the sight of their friends. Kirishima, Mina, and Jirou were waiting for them with freshly cooked food prepared ad laid out on the table. It was Kiri who noticed them first.
“Oh hey, manly patrol boys!”
Mina smiled at them, “You made it just in time for dinner.”
The mention of food immediately made Sero and Denki perk up.
“Awe! Did you guys wait for us, that’s so sweet!”
Sero didn’t even bother already starting to dig in, causing Mina to reprimand him for not waiting.
The sight of her friends’ antics made Kyouka giggle, before she turned to her boyfriend who was in the process of taking of his mask and gauntlets off. Once done, the boy made his way towards her. “Hey, how was patrol?”
“Fucking tiring. Stupid villains fighting back as if they even have a chance. M’exhausted.”
“Awe you poor baby.”
True to his words, Katsuki was indeed drained. So much so, that his normal rationality seemed to be non-existent at that particular moment.
He was so tired and Kyouka looked like home, and warmth, and rest. Without thinking, the explosive hero leaned down to give his girlfriend a soft kiss on the lips.
And she was so relaxed and Katsuki looked so adorable when he was soft from exhaustion. Without thinking, the purple haired girl kissed him back at once.
A moment passed. Then two. Then three.
A gasp.
Someone choking on water.
The sound of someone covering their mouth in shock.
And the clatter of a spoon falling to the floor.
The two heroes pulled away and the reality of the situation sunk in as they stared at each other in shock. Turning to their friends, they are met by wide eyes and mouths dropped to the floor—very reminiscent of that one Saturday afternoon.
“…what…”
“…the…”
“…fuck…”
“WAS THAT?!??”
Katsuki and Kyouka stared at their friends unblinking, before turning to each other.
“Shit.”
The Bakusquad was a lot of things…
And “oblivious” was 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 one of them.
