Shouto and Katsuki met through a dating app 2 years ago; they both started as friends, planning on taking it slow until one truly felt attached. They were in a friend slash talking stage for 6 months before Shouto finally asked him out.
It’s been 1 year and a half since they got involved in a long distance relationship; they were sometimes when they both almost reached the bottom line, misunderstandings happened, constantly fighting due to their time zones and absence. But the love between them is stronger than their wrath and jealousy, they made up as soon as possible - so it won't affect their relationship.
Todoroki Shouto is the youngest son of the most successful CEO of the Endeavour Company, Katsuki know this as soon as he told Shouto how much he wanted the All Might limited figurine - Which obviously cost an arm and leg for Katsuki, but the next day he got a package from Shouto and guess what? All Might limited edition figurines. Katsuki confronted his boyfriend about this and Shouto explained everything.
At first Katsuki doesn't like it when his partner spends a lot of money on him, he doesn't condone this kind of treatment. Then, he told Shouto if he ever spends a lot of money on him one more time, they will officially break up.
Since then, Shouto stopped sending things.
Their relationship blossomed perfectly each season, there was up and down but mostly up. Shouto never thought he would be happy with a boyfriend who lives miles away from him. Shouto is from Japan but as soon as he graduated from high school, his father decided to send him away to work overseas for his father’s company, which happened to be in New York, United State.
When he downloaded the dating app because his friend, Momo told him to. He just downloaded it to stop her from pestering him. Momo is a good friend but Shouto has limits too. He downloaded it and never opened nor used it. Well, luck wasn't on his side when he was drunk. The congratulations party was held for him after he got his promotion, and yeah he was wasted.
When he woke up the next morning with a huge hangover, he received a notification from the dating app. Panicked, he swiped up his phone and read the notification, a text from his match .
Bakugou Katsuki.
Katsuki has a rude personality, Shouto knew this when he received a curse as an opening conversation
explosion king : nice to fucking meet you, dipshit.
shouto : what did i ever do to you world, i woke up to this horrible text.
explosion king : not my fault we got a fucking match.
shouto : i will act like this never happen and delete this app, nice to meet you explosion king. so long.
Safe to say that Shouto did not delete the app at all, instead he just ignored the notification from the application. Shouto and Katsuki didn't message each other for a few days after the incident; however when Shouto was at his lowest, he doesn't know why he’s looking for the other man’s presence.
His fingers betrayed him when they tapped on the explosion king chat.
shouto : hello.
explosion king : didn't you said you're going to delete the app, dumbass?
shouto : was planning to but nah, i don't know why i didn't either.
explosion king : why? too lonely to even delete a dating app?
shouto : says you who had the app before me.
explosion king : listen here asshole, i bet you downloaded it before me and i am not lonely!
shouto : so why did you have a dating app ?
explosion king : what the fuck is this? 20 questions?
shouto : i asked one question though.
explosion king : don't tryna be a smart pant right now, fucker.
Since that day, they both get along very well. Sure Katsuki was the rudest person he ever met online, but Katsuki actually really cared for him, Katsuki never left him to read or never reply late when Shouto wanted to talk about his mountain of problems, thoughts that overwhelmed him
Katsuki was there for him not physically but at least he was there the entire time. Of course Shouto has friends he made in real life, but Katsuki was different - maybe because he made friends from a dating app.
explosion king : so where are you from?
shouto : we've been talking for ages and you're going to ask me that now?
explosion king : shut up asshole! i just want to meet you, kinda bored and rotting here in my house.
shouto : unfortunately i believe i am miles away from you.
explosion king : huh?!
shouto : i am from Japan but currently staying at New York for business purposes.
explosion king : oh fuck now it make sense why you only reply to me when it's midnight for me.
shouto : wait what? i am sorry if i disturbed your sleeping schedule.
explosion king : chill idiot. i don't mind though, once in a while to have someone to talk to.
shouto : where are you from so i would know your time zone.
explosion king : Japan
Now that they both have each other's time zone, they only text each other at the appropriate time. Shouto learned a lot from Katsuki, he knows how to cook, he knows how to teach people, he knows how to fight and more. Shouto too, shares a lot about himself. Since then, they get closer and closer each day.
They even started to video call each other from time to time; 6 months in the friendship, Shouto finally understands how he feels for the ash-blonde, he feels complete with him even though it is weird despite seeing each other's daily life online. Katsuki was the only one that made him feel like there were butterflies in his stomach, the one made his head clouded with him - where and what he was doing - the one that made him rush his meeting to reply to one single text.
“Hey Katsuki?” Shouto called out, they were on a video call. The screen shows that Katsuki’s place is night time, seeing as the blonde wrapped himself with the blanket, eyes closed and how the light of the screen flashed on his face. Katsuki hummed in response. “I know you’re sleepy but I have something to tell you.”
“W’at is it?” his sleepy voice is hot, Shouto could feel his face heated up.
He cleared his throat, “You know what? On second thoughts, I will tell you some other time.” Shouto stated, he was sitting in his office doing some paperworks. “Go back to sleep.”
“No.” Katsuki said, eyes still closed. “Tell me, Shouto.”
He gulped, “Well I know we want to take this slow and our friendship is going perfectly well but,” He takes the deepest breath ever before he starts speaking, “I might have fallen for you.”
There was an awkward silence between them and Shouto is ready to be rejected and hope it doesn't affect his current relationship with Katsuki when suddenly-
“Fuck why now?” Katsuki groaned, “I was about to sleep and you decided to confess now?”
“That's why I said I will tell you another time.” Shouto pouts.
“You idiot, an absolute idiot.”
Shouto sighed and waited patiently to be rejected.
“I like you too.”
“I know I hope we can continue-” He paused when he registered what the sleepy guy said. “Wait what?” He was shocked.
“I said I like you too, dumbass.”
It’s been exactly 1 year and half since they started dating - Long distance relationships are hard to maintain but it made their bond stronger despite the long distance between them.
Today, Shouto is going to surprise his long distance boyfriend for the first time. He planned everything for this marvellous guy, he even managed to convince his father to let him take a week off, he was able to find someone who he trusts his work with when he is on leave and bought a ticket to Japan. Staying there for a week to celebrate his first Christmas together with his boyfriend, he really wanted to kiss his boyfriend and touch him without the screen in between them.
Katsuki introduced him to his parents via video call, since then his parents have his phone numbers because they are sceptical about this long distance relationship, at first they thought it wouldn't last long - oh god they were wrong, it lasted 1 year and a half and they are still counting. Shouto managed to get Katsuki’s parents to get involved in this surprise.
It’s been 2 days since he’s planning and a day away from his flight. Today is going to be the last time he’s texting and calling Katsuki, he even turned off his location.
It’s 6pm when Shouto receives a facetime from his beloved. It weighed on his soul when he refused the call. One mistake, as soon as he rejected the call, he should've known that Katsuki is persistent, he calls again, and again. Then the angry messages start coming, and curiosity makes the most of him, so he looks at the text, curious to know what he wanted. Oh. An angry Katsuki sending middle finger emoji.
He turned off his phone the entire day, afraid that his boyfriend would constantly call and text him. He was afraid he wouldn't be able to withstand it any longer and ruined the surprise.
shouto : how's Katsuki?
mitsuki : he's .. well he isn't doing well with you ignoring him. i hope this surprise doesn't broke him before it happen.
shouto : tomorrow is the day. after waiting for so long, tomorrow is going to be mark as the most beautiful day for him.
mitsuki : you better make all the suffering he had worth it.
shouto : i promise. please make sure he hold onto it for a little longer.
mitsuki : you love him so much, it's obvious. you're doing a lot for him, and i am happy that he's with you. thank you shouto.
shouto : actually thank you for believing in us and give us your blessings.
mitsuki : i may not look like it but i care a lot about him so please take care of him.
When the sun rose over New York city the next morning, the warmth poured through his window and the dawn chorus of melodic birdsong drifted in. The sound of his alarm woke him up instantly, Shouto wasted no time and started preparing everything. He rushed his routine, showering and eating breakfast - he grabbed his things and waited for one of his dad’s men to come and get him.
He turned on his phone; his phone suddenly started crying all the notifications overnight. His eyes widened when he saw Katsuki’s name pop out, Do you still love me Shouto?
Shouto is scared right now, he is lost in thoughts when he found out how overthinking Katsuki is right now, of course Shouto loves him - he wouldn't do all of this if he wasn't. But he can't stop his plan here, he has to wait a little longer - approximately 14 hours of flight time. Shouto prays to whoever is listening to him right now to make sure Katsuki doesn't ruin himself thinking Shouto stopped loving him.
The car finally arrived, and Shouto wasted no time and got in, ordering the driver to hurry to the airport.
As soon as he arrived at the airport, he waited impatiently for his flight. tapping his toe, scrolling through his messages with a pained heart reading Katsuki’s messages. He convinced himself this is okay because later Katsuki is going to cry in joy when Shouto shows up in front of him with an open arm.
Shouto texted Katsuki’s mother; I’m currently waiting for my flight .
Mitsuki sent him a thumbs up emoji, acknowledging his whereabouts.
After a long hours of waiting, finally his flight is here. He gets everything ready, his passport and ticket, his luggage and himself, mentally. Shouto doesn't know anything about his face being attractive, so he was confused when the ladies on the plane flirted with him as he got on it; even the attendant.
Shouto just ignored them and put his earplugs on, listening to some music before the plane took off. He really can't wait to meet Katsuki. The 14 hours of flight is nothing compared to 2 years talking with Katsuki over the phone, he got used to it eventually and obediently waited for the plane to arrive in Japan.
After so long watching the clouds and endless sky, the plane finally landed safely.
shouto : i'm here.
mitsuki : masaru is going to get you, he told katsuki he's going to buy him something to lift up his mood after days of being ignored.
shouto : i guess the something is me?
mitsuki : even his All Might figurine you bought him doesn't make him happy, obviously he only need you right now.
shouto : i am actually honoured, he's cute.
mitsuki : of course, he's my son ;)
Shouto is going to grab his luggage when he sees Katsuki’s father, waving his arm in the air. Shouto quickly takes his luggage and approaches the man. “Masaru.”
“It’s finally nice to meet you, Shouto.” Shouto takes his hand to shake, Masaru was hired by Shouto - technically his father but Shouto was the one who suggested Masaru to be in the designer team to which his father agreed to hire him. Thanks to that, Masaru managed to have an active income.
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you too, Masaru.”
“Let’s get going, I am afraid Katsuki will go even madder.” Masaru said as he helped Shouto with his things. Shouto nodded his head, he actually cannot wait to see his boyfriend face to face. “Maybe you should try to text him?”
Shouto takes a few seconds before he shakes his head fondly, “I want to surprise him and if I text him now it will ruin everything.”
Masaru smiles softly at his son’s boyfriend, “Alright.”
The journey to the Bakugou’s Resident isn't that long and awkward, Shouto and Masaru able to catch up everything; How Katsuki behavior become weirder as the day passed on and from Shouto’s mental condition without having a facetime with his lover to how his overloaded with paperworks before he able to request to take a week off.
Being with Masaru is comfortable as if he was talking to Katsuki; maybe it is because Masaru is his father, if only Shouto’s father is as kind and patient as Masaru - he wonders if his life will be like Katsuki’s, filled with happiness and wonderful life.
They finally arrived, Masaru patted his shoulder. “Goodluck.”
Shouto takes a deep breath before he dragged his feet toward the door, ringing the bell. He heard grunting beside the door and the smile on his face became obvious, oh how much he misses hearing Katsuki’s voice. “Old man is that you? This is your house so just walk in.” If they don't know Katsuki, they might think Katsuki is insulting his own parents - lucky for Shouto who spent a year with Katsuki’s attics.
The familiar voice ringed on his ears like a symphony, he turned to see Masaru leaning on his car with the sweetest smile written on his face, he mouthed, ‘Go on.’
So Shouto did it again, he rang the bell once again.
“I swear to god, old man-” The door swung open, familiar spiky ash blonde hair made their appearance, the similar scowling noises and the blazing red eyes. “What the actual fuck?”
“Katsuki.” Shouto greeted with a smile, “I miss you.”
“No shit,” Katsuki shouted in front of his face, if he wasn't used to hearing the blonde’s loud voice he would’ve winch a little. “I fucking miss you, Half n Half.”
Katsuki pulled him into a tight hug. To finally be able to hug his beloved, he doesn't need anything else - he just wants the moment to stay like this. “I’m sorry for being gone for too long.”
“I fucking thought you stopped loving me, idiot!” Katsuki muttered. “You even turned off your location and ignored me.”
“I’m sorry, but it was worth it.”
“You really do love to make me suffer don't you,”
“I do.” Shouto whispers, leaning in to kiss his lover’s forehead before resting their forehead on each other’s, “But it was worth it in the end.”
“Fucking idiot.”
“Your idiot.”
With that, the week he spent with his beloved and his family was the only permanent memory he must cherish until the end. Long distance relationships are hard, Shouto can prove that - but they are also incredible; If you can love, respect, trust and support each other from miles away - a distance won't be able to come in between you and your loved one. You’ll be unstoppable when you’re together.
As Christmas morning came, a soft kiss landed on his lips. The morning greeting with love and tranquility, Shouto said under his breath as he looked over to his lover,
“He is the peace I am seeking for in this chaotic world.”
At the end, it's only Bakugou Katsuki that he needed all along.
