Chapter Text

Addison watched as Meredith practically strutted into the prom over the top of her drink and thanked whatever God that she didn’t believe in for making her divorce Derek a few months ago. She looked good, like really good.

“Got the hots for your ex-husband’s ex-girlfriend?” it was Callie’s voice that made her almost jump out of her skin and finally avert her eyes from Meredith as she made her way over to Finn.

“I don’t,” Addison instantly denied it as fast as possible.

“You’re still watching her,” Callie took a step to block Addison’s view of Meredith out of the corner of her eye. Addison sighed and turned to face her, leaning back against the railing.

“It’s nothing,” Addison dropped her voice to a whisper, she didn’t want her stupid crush to be the subject of the hospital rumour mill.

Callie just gave her a look of utter disbelief and leant against the railing next to her, “Just don’t go there with interns, I’ve made that mistake.”

“What happened with you and George?” Addison was happy for the distraction and the gossip, she may not enjoy being the subject of the rumour mill but she did enjoy hearing it.

“I told him I love him,” Callie sighed.

“You might need this more than me,” Addison pulled out the vodka that she had stashed in her purse in a small flask.

“You are a lifesaver, Montgomery,” Callie smiled, the two of them turning away from the crowd so Addison could top up her cup with the much-needed alcohol.

“So what did he say,” Addison asked, slipping the flask back into her purse. She scanned the crowd and he was notably missing but her eyes landed on Meredith halfway through her scan and she couldn't really look away. She half-smiled at Addison and Addison returned it before she looked back at Callie for an answer about George.

“I think that she was checking you out,” Callie laughed.

“I think that she’s the straightest person in this place,” Addison shook her head. She didn’t want to speculate about Meredith’s sexuality, “What did George say?”

Callie sighed, leaning against the barrier even more, “Nothing,” she shook her head, “He said nothing but, really Addison, have you seen her and Yang?”

“They’re friends and what do you mean he said nothing?” Addison, for some reason, decided to engage in the two conversations at the same time.

“I can’t give you much more on the whole straight or not thing,” Callie confessed, “I’m straight and I never really have female friends.”

“So tell me about George,” Addison pushed, she wasn’t completely certain about Callie’s sexuality but she wasn’t going to say anything.

“I told him I didn’t mean it and that I have verbal diarrhoea then Izzie came in looking all panicked and needed his help and he went saying he would call me later,” Callie explained, “And I really don’t want to talk about it anymore so can you just tell me about when you got close with Meredith.”

“It was the stupid dog that somehow I managed to get in the divorce because Derek is useless that got stupid cancer so Meredith and I ended spending a lot of time together where she met the stupid vet,” Addison explained, she regretted the dog. Kind of. She regretted how much time the dog made her spend with Meredith because if she didn’t spend time with her, she wouldn’t be looking at her.

“Sorry about the dog, by the way,” Callie smiled.

Addison smiled back, “Thank you,” she told her. They hadn’t put him down long ago. Derek had decided he couldn’t make it so it was just her and Meredith.

She had signed the paper and then Finn had administered the injection. Meredith had held Doc, Addison wasn’t a hugging person so much. She had just scratched in between around where his collar would normally sit, his favourite place and he would always relax when Addison did that.

Addison had somehow ended up holding Meredith’s hand for just a second as she felt him stop breathing. It had started with their fingers just brushing against each other then they had ended up holding hands for a little bit. Addison had just squeezed her hand lightly because Meredith was in tears and she didn’t want her to be so upset, she also didn’t quite know how to comfort her.

She ended up looking back over at Meredith on the other side of the makeshift ballroom again to see Derek walking over to her and Finn while Meredith looked significantly embarrassed and annoyed. Derek and Finn started to completely ignore Meredith to talk to each other, most likely showing off about whichever one of them is better at whatever topic they choose at that moment.

-

Meredith was surrounded by two men, admittedly both amazing and both incredibly hot and kind and she liked both of them. But she had spent the whole evening with her eyes almost glued to an insanely hot woman who had decided to wear a dress obviously designed for the sole purpose of making Meredith unable to look at anything else or anyone else.

She didn’t even know how it started with her liking the redhead, also known as her ex-boyfriend’s ex-wife. Meredith had always noticed that she was hot, like insanely hot, but noticing someone was hot and wanting them to fuck you were two different things and she was comfortably thinking the latter more and more often.

No one had been told about it though, not even Cristina because then someone would know. The fundamental flaw of not telling Cristina, however, was that she didn’t really know what to do with the information. Addison was her boss, again, and her ex-boyfriend’s ex-wife and she probably hated Meredith in every single way so any move was impossible so she just needed to get over it.

Getting over Addison was the conclusion she had come to before they put down Doc together and she found Addison’s hand in hers. Which had made her hypothesis that Addison hated her a little more unstable but it was still there until she kept catching Addison looking at her. Almost like she had been checking Meredith out, especially when she walked in, she could feel Addison’s eyes almost burning her as they raked across her body.

“Did Meredith ever tell you about the time we woke a guy up from a coma after almost two decades?” Meredith made the mistake of listening to the conversation between Derek and Finn.

“What happened to him?” Finn asked, fake-interested in every way.

“He died,” Meredith cut in, shoving her cup at Derek, “I need to do something,” she told him before she turned to Finn, “Why don’t you talk about volunteering at a shelter?” she quipped, just in case he had run out of things to intimidate Derek with.

“Well, it isn’t neurosurgery,” Derek fired back at Finn, neither seemed to notice Meredith at all. Meredith, meanwhile, noticed that Callie had left the makeshift ballroom and Addison alone.

Once she moved away from the two men and closer to the exit, she found Addison looking at her again but not in her eye. She waited till Addison looked her in the eye and just gave her a questioning look with a small smile. Addison shook her head back with a smile, a blush colouring her cheeks a bit. This was the last person that Meredith expected to have a wordless conversation with.

-

Addison could feel herself blushing, Meredith was not meant to catch her. She needed Callie to distract her so things like this didn’t happen. The last thing she expected was for Meredith to nod toward the exit just before she walked out of it. Addison thought she meant to follow her. So she did. She probably should have had a little less of the vodka; a lack of vodka would have definitely improved her decision-making significantly.

They made three turns, Addison following Meredith the whole way. It was one more right-hand turn and then Addison saw Meredith leaning against the door to a random exam room on the Cardiology floor. Addison stopped just in front of her, just inside of her personal space but not too close.

-

Addison was torturously close to her, Meredith could barely breathe with her this close, dressed like that and looking at her like that. Meredith took a deep breath and looked her in the eye. A smirk danced across her lips as she looked at Meredith, her pupils dilated so much that only hints of green remained.

“You’ve been watching me all night,” Meredith challenged her in a whisper like it was a dirty secret. It probably was a dirty secret, the ex-girlfriend and the ex-wife.

“It’s hard not to,” Addison breathed, taking a step closer so they were only centimetres away from each other. “And you would only know if you were looking too,” she leaned down and whispered, her warm breath tickling her ear.

Meredith didn’t know how to respond, she didn’t want to respond and she only wanted one thing to happen next so she turned her head to face Addison’s lips. She had no idea who kissed her first but their lips brushed against each other cautiously, a gentle slowness that lasted just one second before Meredith was being pushed against the door in a bruising kiss that she could only reciprocate.

She threaded her fingers into Addison’s hair and pulled her closer as Addison’s arm wrapped around her waist, pressing their hips together as the wall behind Meredith collapsed. Addison held her and they stumbled into the room, she could just about hear the door slam but then a tongue ran over her lips and she bit back her moan as her mind went blank.

They both took just a breath as Meredith was lifted onto the exam room table but then Addison's tongue slipped back into her mouth and she didn’t really care about oxygen anymore. Addison's hands were running up her thighs as she hiked her skirt up. She gained use of her legs and hooked them around Addison’s waist to bring her closer so Addison's hips pressed against her, Meredith couldn’t help but moan into Addison’s mouth.

Addison’s hands had stayed on her thighs, teasingly just resting there until Addison sucked Meredith’s bottom lip into her mouth before she pulled away from her. “Do you want to do this?” she rasped breathlessly, her fingers found their way further up her thighs.

They were torturously close to her panties and the breath hitched in Meredith’s throat and her hips arched toward Addison. Eventually, her brain managed to connect enough for her to stutter out a “please.” She didn’t mean for the word to sound as desperate as she felt but it sounded like she was practically begging. Not that she wouldn’t beg for it because Addison's lips were definitely marking her throat and what she really needed was her fingers in her pussy.

Fingers hooked around the tops of her panties and started to pull them down, Meredith kicked off her heels as Addison looked up at her as she moved back. Meredith met her eyes as the panties were discarded on the floor. Addison smirked before she moved forward, her hands grasping Meredith’s face this time as she pulled her into a crushing kiss again.

Her whole body pressed against Meredith’s and Meredith just shifted her hips into Addison, she needed her. She really needed her. “Addison,” Meredith practically pleaded, the words whimpered into Addison’s mouth.

“What?” Addison rested her hands on Meredith’s thighs, stopping her hips from being able to move. She really was Satan. A smirk played on her lips and she looked like she almost wanted Meredith to beg.

“Just,” Meredith stuttered over her words, “Please,” she begged.

“Please, what?” Addison smirked, stopping her hips from moving at all as she tried again. Addison leaned forward and whispered in her ear, “Use your words, Meredith.” Meredith moaned loudly as Addison tugged on her earlobe with her teeth before her lips moved down to Meredith’s neck again, teeth grazing Meredith’s skin as she marked her again.

Meredith groaned and threw her hand back, “God,” she choked, “Just fuck me, please.”

“I thought it was Satan,” Addison's fingers found their way to her inner thigh. Meredith had to bite back her moan as she rutted her hips closer to Addison and the finger slipped over her clit. She almost drowned in the pleasure of that single touch.

“Addison,” she whimpered. She needed more. She needed so much more.

“I’ve got you,” Addison whispered, holding her close as she slipped two fingers into her pussy and swiped a thumb across her clit. Everything faded to black after that, her brain just stopped working.

She remembered making Addison cum though, making her sit on the exam room table and sinking to her knees, pulling her panties down and seeing how wet she was already. “You came three times, it was hot,” Addison told her, her fingers threading into her hair.

“It was,” Meredith agreed, licking a stripe up Addison’s thigh to clean up the arousal that had already ended up there. The way she tasted and the high-pitched whimper that fell from her lips just solidified the idea in Meredith’s head that there was no turning back from this again. Addison may have ruined for any other person.

Meredith delved in further and Addison let out a loud moan, gripping her hair and pushing her closer as she ground her hips into Meredith’s face. There was no doubt in the world that Meredith couldn’t go back, especially as she heard how Addison moaned her name and how she became quieter and more breathless as she got closer and closer to cumming. She also knew how she tasted and how her skin felt and how her thighs clamped around her head and how much she would curse when she came. Meredith needed that a hundred times in her life.

She stood up and kissed Addison again. “I taste good,” Addison smiled, lifting Meredith into her lap. Meredith straddled her and dipped her tongue into her mouth, there was one thing that she had noticed. Addison tasted like vodka.

“Are you going to tell me where you got the vodka?” Meredith pulled back, looking her in the eye and leaning back in her arms.

“A flask,” Addison started to trail kisses down her neck, “But I can’t remember where I dropped it,” she told her as she reached her collarbone and her hands found their way to the straps of Meredith’s dress, a hand pulling down the zipper.

“I don’t care where you dropped it,” Meredith slipped the top of her dress off so it bunched around her hips and Addison continued her trail of kisses while her hands slipped round to her bra, fingers skirting over the bra hook as they heard a door slam down the hallway. Both of them stopped and looked around. Neither of them wanted to get caught.

“What time is it?” Meredith asked with a sigh. They couldn’t be gone too long. Izzie and Cristina would show up at some point and look for her, not to mention Finn and Derek, if they remembered her existence.

Addison brought her watch to show Meredith as soon as she looked at it. They’d been in the exam room for easily over an hour. Meredith slipped off Addison’s lap onto the floor and pulled her dress back up.

She tried to start to look for her underwear but Addison stopped her, doing up her dress zip, “Where did you throw my panties?” she asked Addison.

“I wasn’t really focusing on that,” Addison wiped away the smudged lipstick from her lips with her thumb. It really made Meredith want to kiss her again but she had panties to find, she wasn’t about to go commando in the same room as the Chief.

“It was definitely behind me,” Addison added as she picked up her panties from the floor and pulled them on. Meredith only managed to find her dropped clutch on the floor before the door swung open.

Callie burst in, holding out a clutch to Addison. She didn’t even look surprised, “The nurse told me to come and find you,” she told Meredith, “You have to come now, it’s Izzie.” Meredith looked back at Addison.

“I’ll find them,” she told her, “Go.”

Callie stopped her just before she ran off and tied the bow around her waist back together, then she chased down the hall towards Denny’s room. That was the only logical thing. Callie followed after her, she didn’t see whatever look she gave to Addison.

-

Denny Duquette had died at 7:42 that evening. That’s what she heard as soon as she found Meredith’s panties on the floor of the exam room and slipped them into her clutch. She couldn’t think what Meredith was doing, she just tried to sort things out to help Richard and to also avoid Derek looking at her funny or thinking about Meredith.

She ended up talking to Finn though when Derek found her and then Richard and Miranda, they were looking for Izzie and the rest of the interns who at the same moment came walking down the stairs. Izzie was in front and then George and Alex walked behind her and Meredith and Cristina behind them.

Addison tried to look at Meredith, not in front of the Chief or Derek or Finn. That was the last thing she needed. There was something else to focus on though, Izzie stopped walking and spoke to Richard. “It was me. I cut his LVAD wire. I did it. No one helped me,” she confirmed what they already knew but it wasn’t something anyone expected her to admit.

“And now…” Izzie went on, “I thought I was a surgeon, but,” Addison realised she was about to quit. She shouldn’t quit. Izzie had too much potential. “I can’t. I thought I was a surgeon but I am not so I quit.”

“Izzie,” Bailey tried to stop her but it was futile. The rest of the interns followed after her down the stairs, including Meredith.
