Crab Blossom - Ill Nature

Chapter 1: Crab Blossom

Chapter Text

Subject A002 reacted rather positively to tests. It can read, it can write, it reacts well to the presence of others. However, it still seems incapable of speech. Their wings have grown successfully, though they seem far too small for flight. We will continue with more experimentations.

The doctor finished his notes, before turning back to the observation room. Subject A002 was responding well to the puzzles they had set out, but those were soon removed, as it was time for lights out for A002.

As the doctor walked back to his room, his own duck wings shuffled. Did he feel guilty for taking experiments on what appeared to be a ten-year-old?

Not at all. If anything, A002 was Doctor Quackity’s pride and joy. He grew the subject from the test tube himself. An accelerated growth rate that slowed to normal once the subject hit eight years of age, pure genius on his part, if he did say so himself.

Doctor Quackity went to bed proud at the progress the experiments were making on the subject. Only one failure and they were already improving.

He knew a bit of the Angel of Death’s DNA was all that was needed to create a stable test subject.

Such a shame, though. Those wings had hardly grown. The subject wouldn’t be able to fly.

Oh well. A flightless bird still had its uses.

In the vault of the lab, a black feather crumbled to ash.

Subject A002’s eyes snapped open. Odd. It’s sleep cycle was not yet over.

Was it unstable, like A001 was?

...no… no this was different.

A002 was not unstable. A002 was… what was the word…

“Defective, chick.”

Sirens blared as one of the walls of the laboratory collapsed. The walls were painted red with blood as a sword arced gracefully in the air.

A002 sat up, meeting a black veil.

“The word is defective .”

A slow grin worked its way across A002’s face. It was not allowed to grin.

“Defective,” it repeated in a reverent whisper. What a lovely word.

It wasn’t long before A002 found itself high in the air, cradled in the arms of the veil. They’d only been flying for a minute, when there was a loud crack . Veil wailed in pain, and A002 slipped from their grasp. The subject did not gasp, but it’s mouth flew open, sickly pale face staring horrified up at the veil as it plummeted to earth. Veil dove after it, only to have their ankle captured by a metal rope shot up at them.

Veil howled in rage as they’re yanked back, and A002 could see them no longer.

The ground grew closer. Buildings rose around it as it fell. The ground was only a few moments away-

The night peacefully slept on.

The two villains looked out over the wake of destruction.

“Phil-”

“I need to find them,” the blond rasped, veil torn and bloodied, but his eyes were blown wide with worry.

“Phil they-”

“I need to find them,” he snapped, glaring at his old friend. The crows surrounding them screamed for their lost chick. “I will find them”
